He is also the author of Enslaved Daughters: Colonialism, Law and Women's Right (New Delhi, Oxford University Press, 1997), The Oppressive Present: Literature and Social Consciousness in Colonial India (New Delhi, Oxford University Press, 1992) and Dependence and Disillusionment: Emergence of National Consciousness in Later Nineteenth Century India (New Delhi, Manas, 1975).
