Katy Perry and Russell Brand wow at MTV Awards

Newlyweds Katy Perry and Russell Brand made their first public appearance, since their Indian wedding, at the annual MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid.

Brand and Perry, who later won Best Video for her single California Girls, looked tanned and in love as they strolled hand in hand along the purple carpet at the

Spanish capital's Caja Magica venue.

In her acceptance speech, the singer thanked her Spanish fans for their support: "Thank you so much this is awesome.

"I want to thank you guys because I was just on stage performing for you, and you are the best f*** crowd in Europe."

Other stars attending the prestigious music bash included Katy's pal Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Dizzee Rascal and Shakira.

Bon Jovi received the first ever World Icon Award, and later took to the stage to close the event.

The evening was hosted by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker, who went through exactly thirteen wardrobe changes during the evening.

Among the winners were Lady Gaga for Best Pop, Best Female and Best Song, followed by teen sensation Justin Bieber who received two nods for Best Male, and Best Push Artist.

Other winners included Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars, Ke$ha, Shakira, Tokio Hotel and Paramore.

Meanwhile on the red carpet, Miley Cyrus stole the show by revealing a little more than expected.
