U.S. Navy remembers Hurricane Katrina, five years later.

Five years ago, U.S. Navy Sailors moved swiftly to provide much-needed evacuation, rescue, relief and support for those affected by the historic landfall of Hurricane Katrina, a strong Category 3 storm. The Navy deployed ships, aircraft and heavy-lift equipment to the Gulf Coast. Many Navy helicopters rescued citizens from rooftops and remote areas while others ferried the sick and injured to ships for medical care. Seabees repaired utilities and cleared the path for citizens to return. Other Sailors handed out supplies or otherwise assisted residents in their time of need. It was an all-hands-on-deck event for the U.S. Navy and we were proud to help our fellow Americans. (U.S. Navy video/Released)
