Rail passengers had to be rescued in dramatic fashion after a bridge collapsed in China.

Two carriages of a passenger train fell into a river after floods knocked out parts of the crossing.

The accident happened in Guanghan, a city about 50 kilometres north of the Sichuan provincial capital of Chengdu.

Railway officials say all those on board the train managed to get out safely.

The broken train remains balanced on both sides of the damaged bridge, while the two carriages which fell into the water are slowly sinking into the river.

China has been hit hard by floods and landslides in recent months.
