Anger and riots over Pakistan flood relief efforts

Police in Pakistan have clashed with people at a flood relief camp at the Pakistani town of Sukkur in Sindh province.

Anger was growing amongst the survivors of the deadly floods over the slow relief work in the devastated areas. The scuffle took place when impatient flood survivors tried to grab aid.

At least six people were wounded, local television reported.

Pakistan's government has been accused of being too slow to respond to the crisis with victims relying mostly on the military - the most powerful institution in Pakistan - and foreign aid agencies for help.

Swelled by torrential monsoon rains, major rivers have flooded Pakistan's mountain valleys and fertile plains, killing up to 1,600 people and leaving two million homeless.

Pakistan authorities forecast a brief respite in rains that sparked the country's worst floods in decades, but aid agencies warned help was too slow to arrive for millions without clean water, food and homes.
