Incessant rainfall and flood-like situation have caused landslides in parts of India's Maharashtra State. Many trains have come to a standstill affecting the traveling passengers.

India’s state of Maharashtra is experiencing flood-like situations and landslides after heavy monsoon rains hit the region.

Many trains came to a standstill—express trains have been stranded on the tracks for as long as eight hours.

Getting around by bus isn’t much easier.

[Dushyant Singh, Passenger]: (male, Hindi)
“The Madhusagar Express started from Ajmer. After crossing Ratnagiri, we saw that the bridge was damaged. The railway line was also damaged due to water. When we moved forward, we saw that also the rocks had slipped. We do not know how much it is going to take, and whatever staff is working here is of Madhusagar express.”

Passengers say railway officials didn’t warn how bad it would be.

[Rajesh Mehta, Passenger]: (male, Hindi)
"If they had told us in Ratnagiri last night, we would have reached there. We spent the entire night in the train.”

All the trains have been cancelled because of the landslide and many more are stuck due to flooding and heavy downpours.

Train services between Goa and Mumbai have also been cancelled.

Repair work of the railway tracks is in progress, but there’s no word how long passengers will have to remain on the trains.
