Moat victim out of hospital

A policeman who was left blinded by gunman Raoul Moat has left hospital 17 days after being shot in the face.

Pc David Rathband was sitting in his patrol car at a roundabout in Newcastle earlier this month when the killer opened fire on him.

The married father-of-two was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save his sight.

Pc Rathband suffered severe facial injuries but said they had been "sorted" by Doctors at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

"I have to come back in three to four weeks to have another examination of my left eye just to see if there's something they can salvage from that", he added.

Raoul Moat died after shooting himself in the early hours of July 10 after a six-hour stand-off with police in Rothbury.

This followed a week-long manhunt for Moat, who killed karate instructor Chris Brown, wounded ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart and then shot Pc Rathband.

Twenty people have been arrested in connection with the case.
