Extra phone lines were installed for an auction in New Zealand to handle the bidding for a very special lock of hair. It was cut from French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

The hair was part of a collection brought to New Zealand in 1864.Bids by phone came from as far away as Hong Kong, the U.S., Lithuania and France. According to the auctioneers, the lock was finally bought by an unnamed collector in London.

The final price? 13,000 U.S. dollars.

The hair was bound in a circle and was cut the morning after Napoleon's death on the island of St. Helena in 1821.
