1985 Air India Kanishka bombing

Punjab/ Canada, June 22: On June 23, 1985, Air India Flight 182 left Montreal for New Delhi via London. But it exploded and crashed off Ireland’s Atlantic Coast. In Canada’s worst terrorist attack, 329 persons were killed, mostly of Indian origin. After nearly 25 years, Justice John Major, the head of Kanishka Bombing Inquiry Commission has made several recommendations, including an ex-gratia payment to victims’ families. Pro-Khalistan militants were responsible for the mid-air bombing. The masterminds included Talwinder Singh Parmar, who fled to India and was killed in a police encounter in 1992 … And Inderjit Singh Reyat, who was convicted for the Kanishka bombing was released in 2009 after spending 15 years in jail.
