The inquest into the 2002 Potters Bar rail crash has been hearing about the moment an express train smashed into the platform.

A driver said: "I have lost everything... we are off the rails" moments after the train from King's Cross to King's Lynn ran over faulty points as it approached the station in Hertfordshire.

Signal inspector Roger Badger, who was travelling in the driver's cab, told the inquest everything had appeared normal until there was a "violent jolt"

Six passengers - Austen Kark, Emma Knights, Jonael Schickler, Alexander Ogunwusi, Chia Hsin Lin and Chia Chin Wu - and pedestrian Agnes Quinlivan died and more than 70 people were hurt as a result of the crash.

The inquest is expected to last for more than two months.
