Rio Ferdinand is rumoured to be hooking up with Duran Duran to record an un-official World Cup song.

According to a daily newspaper, the eighties popband have approached the England defender about re-recording a new version of their massive hit Rio.

Apparently, Rio and Simon Le Bon are old friends and the lead singer wants to get the Manchester United player into the studio before he heads off to South Africa.

There is speculation that producer Mark Ronson is interested in remixing the song as is Nick Hodgson from the Kaiser Chiefs.

Talking about his singing skills in an interview with FourFourTwo, Rio is quoted as saying: "Can I sing? Of course I can sing. I'd get to the latter stages of Britain's Got Talent."

The official 2010 Wold Cup anthem has been recorded by Shakira. It is called Waka Waka which means This Time For Africa.
