Maoists Blow Up Railway Tracks in Eastern India

Maoist rebel violence continues in India today. In their latest attack, rebels have blow up railway tracks in various parts of eastern India.
Maoist rebels have blown up several stretches of railway tracks in various parts of eastern India.
They triggered two blasts between two stations near Rourkela in the wee hours of Tuesday.
A goods train passing the area got derailed after the blasts.
A stretch of railway track near Choira village in the state of Jharkhand was also blown up.
Train services were disrupted on the stretch as the personnel of Central Reserve of Police Force were carrying out checks in the area.

"At around 10'o clock in the morning a blast occurred and we were told a 1-metre stretch of railway track was blown up. Railway services were halted. We reached the site as soon as we received the information. We saw that the track was blown up. We searched in the nearby area but the Maoists had fled by that time."
Maoist rebels have ignored repeated calls from the government to renounce violence and negotiate.
Instead, they have stepped up attacks in recent months, prompting the government to go after them in a concerted strike.
Thousands have been killed in the Maoist insurgency. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described Maoist insurgency as the gravest domestic threat to India's internal security.
