A find for authorities in Indian Kashmir. Acting on a tipoff, they brought in a large stockpile of weapons and ammunitions that were set to be used by Pakistan-based rebels.

Authorities in Indian Kashmir have recovered a huge cache (pron ca SHAY) of arms and ammunition from a hideout of a Pakistan-backed militant outfit. It happened near the Line of Control in Poonch district on Monday.

Security personnel received a tip, which led them to the find.

[Colonel Ashok Rana, Commanding Officer]: (hindi male)
"I began the search operation, with my officers and personnel deep in the forest area with metal detectors. Around 1:30 p.m. (local time) we spotted a hideout beneath a huge rock, out of which we recovered two AK-47 rifles, magazines and cartridges."

He mentioned that during peak days of the militancy, this particular route was often used to sneak into the valley, despite the whole being fenced by barbed wire.

Thousands have lost their lives since militants began to target the Kashmir valley region in 1989.

Kashmir has been at the core of decades of hostility between India and Pakistan and the cause of two of the three wars they have fought since their independence in 1947.
