If I Could Care

If I Could Care

I can hear the drip in the bathtub
I might do something about it if i could get up

And though I’m not paralysed... I just lack the will
I’ve been lying here all day... and I’m lying here still

The T.V is flickering... and the shades remain drawn
Earlier I felt some ambition... but now that’s gone

Can’t feel my extremities... It’s extremely cold
If i wasn’t so young... I would swear i was old

And if i could hold you... I would hold you near
And if i could care... I would care for you... my dear

Filling up the bathtub... one drop at a time
Counting all the reasons... why standing up is just a waste of time

If i had a the answers... if i had half a mind
If i weren’t so clearly average... maybe i’d find a way
To get out of bed and do something with my life

But as things stand, I’m a worthless shell of a man
And it’s no use starting something new this late in the day
So i’ll just stay here... cover my head...
listen to the muffled television...
And try my best to fall asleep...

And if i could hold you... I would hold you near
And if i could care... I would care for you... my dear
