01:37her name was madam bhikaji kama but how many of you even know her story don't worry today on her

01:51became the soul of our nation so let's rewind to 1907 staggart germany a lone indian woman steps into a
01:59global stage surrounded by thousand delegates from across the world here the british empire is at its
02:06peak and india is in chains but this woman madam bhikaji kama pulls out a flag green saffron and red
02:14boldly declaring this is the flag of independent india the crowd starts gossiping the british get
02:22furious but why because she was the first to hoist an indian flag on foreign soil planting the seed of
02:30freedom in world's heart but who was she and why don't we talk about her more let's understand born in
02:371861 in bombay bhikaji kama was no ordinary woman raised in a wealthy parsee family she could have lived
02:45a life of luxury but her heart burned for india's freedom at just 24 she married rustam kama a pro
02:53british lawyer the marriage was a clash of ideals he admired the british and she hated their control
03:01so what did she do she got into social work risking her life during the 1896 plague outbreak
03:07in bombay she even caught the plague herself but survived barely doctors sent her to london in 1902
03:15to recover but little did the british know they were sending a revolutionary in their own doorstep
03:21in london bhikaji met firebrand nationalists like dada bhai navroji and sham krishna varma
03:27the british warned her stop your anti-british activities or you'll never return to india
03:34so what next did she back down the answer was no she moved to paris turned her home into a hub for
03:43revolutionaries and co-founded the paris indian society moving on she smuggled revolutionary
03:49literature like bande matram and madans talwar into india hidden in christmas toys and then came her
03:57boldest move the flag but what did the flag look like and how did it spark a revolution hold on
04:04because the story gets even bigger madam kama's flag was a masterpiece of integrity green at the top for
04:11islam saffron in the middle for hinduism and red at the bottom for courage eight lotuses stood for
04:18india's eight provinces and the words one day matram screamed rebellion designed with sham krishnaji
04:25varma and vinayak damur the saavarkar this flag wasn't just a clock it was a call to the world

05:10bal gangadar tilak raised a flag with red and green stripes stars and a nod to self-rule in 1921 a young
05:19man showed mahatma gandhi a red and green flag with a charkha mahatma gandhi added a white stripe
05:26for peace and uniting hindus muslims and all other communities and moving on finally in 1947 the
05:32constituent assembly gave us the tiranga we know today saffron for courage white for peace and green for
05:40prosperity and the ashok chakra for progress but let's not forget every stripe every color was paid
05:48for with blood sweat and sacrifice madam kama's life was a battle exiled for 33 years she faced arrest
05:56lost her wealth and even survived a stroke in 1935 she begged the british government to let her return
06:03to india they agreed but only if she stopped her revolutionary work later she came back to bombay
06:10and died in 1936 leaving her wealth to orphan girls and a parsi fire temple today as we salute our
06:17tiranga let's remember madam bikaji kama the mother of indian revolution she showed us that national
06:25integrity isn't just about a flag it's about standing together hindus muslim parsis and everyone
06:34it's about women rising fighting and shaping a nation so i ask you will you honor her legacy
