00:00And now we have news from Tamil Nadu coming in.
00:03It seems a Tamil Nadu governor was snubbed at a convocation ceremony.
00:08This ceremony was of a public university where a student did not accept her degree from the governor,
00:16but rather from the vice chancellor.
00:18This student is DMK Neta's wife and she snubbed RN Ravi, the governor, at the ceremony.
00:25Now the BJP has hit out after the video went viral.
00:29The BJP has said that this is a deplorable drama.
00:33This is low-grade politics by DMK.
00:36Now also, opposition has decided that they will be boycotting the governor's reception on the Independence Day.
00:45A tea that is organized by them, that is going to be boycotted by them.
00:49Joining us now for more information on this is Pramod Madhav.
00:53Well, Pramod, this obviously is an indication to the fact that the tussle that we have seen
00:59between the governor and the DMK government over the educational institutions and the posts of vice chancellors
01:08and many such other issues is just escalating.
01:11And now it's going down all the way to the carders.
01:13Well, it surely is, Anjali, because just like you mentioned,
01:19this is an issue that deals with the governor not providing assent to the bill
01:22that led the Tamil Nadu government, especially the chief minister,
01:25going ahead and contending the powers of the governor in the Supreme Court.
01:29That turned out to be an issue because the Supreme Court actually derived a timeline for the governors.
01:33And what happened right now is that another bill to create Kalingar Karnanthi University
01:38in Thiruwaru district was also kept for, like the governor did not provide a assent for some time
01:44and then he has also forwarded the bill to the president.
01:47So, these are all the issues that is happening between the governor and the chief minister.
01:51Amidst all this, this is Jane Joseph, a student from Manon Maniam Sundanar,
01:55when she attended the convocation.
01:56Today, we clearly see how she is avoiding to get the degree from the governor
02:01but went straight ahead to the vice-chancellor and got the degree from his hands.
02:04Later, she also spoke, claiming that she could not find any kind of achievement
02:09or any kind of work the governor has done for Tamil or Tamil Nadu,
02:13while the vice-chancellor, he has given a lot of achievements for the state of Tamil Nadu
02:16and that is why she decided so and she claims that there was nothing personal in it.
02:22Pramod, we can see on the screens how she sidesteps,
02:25but this is also, you know,
02:29okay, Pramod, I'm just going to stop you here.
02:33Do stay on with us.
02:34Kauai Satyan of the AIDMK is joining us right now.
02:38Mr. Satyan, you can see this video, it's gone viral.
02:41While the DMK says that, you know, R.N. Ravi, the governor,
02:45has been a controversial figure
02:47and that the entire issue stems from the refusal to give assent to their bill,
02:54which is related to the universities as well.
02:57But what is your reaction to something like this?
03:01Because this is on a public platform where there are many students.
03:06No, it clearly looks like staged and enacted.
03:10There are nothing more to it.
03:11I don't think so.
03:12the student who has done this
03:14understand the seriousness of her act.
03:18Looks like somebody who is behind the scene
03:19would have instigated her.
03:20Well, she's the wife of a DMK Neta,
03:23a junior Neta,
03:24but she is the wife of DMK Neta.
03:28Yeah.
03:28Looks like it's clearly staged and enacted
03:30just for political mileage and benefits.
03:33Nothing more to it.
03:35DMK are masters of theatrics and lying
03:37because the entire government is run only on advertisements
03:40for the past four and a half years.
03:43So these kinds of scenarios,
03:45when it emerge in public,
03:46you can clearly make it out that
03:48DMK will be behind the screen.
03:51And these actions will be for their
03:53narrator,
03:54which will help them to
03:55drag and drive their narrator.
03:57That's what's happening here.
04:00But Mr. Satin,
04:01do you think this issue
04:02between the governor and the government
04:05has dragged on for too long now?
04:07No, any governance issue
04:10has to be dealt mutually.
04:14And governance issues
04:15need not be looked with a spectrum
04:16and view of ideology all the time.
04:20The political party can drive its ideology
04:22based on their actions
04:24and service to the people.
04:26But governance issues
04:27need to be sorted out
04:28for the welfare of the people.
04:30But it is the incompetence
04:31of DMK and DMK leadership
04:33which is costing dearer to the state
04:34and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.
04:38It is DMK's incompetence
04:40which is leading to this fiasco.
04:43Nothing more to it.
04:44And there are avenues to sort it out
04:46which the DMK has not rightfully explored
04:48because they are so scared
04:50that they will be exposed.
04:53Their double standards are known
04:54very well in Tamil Nadu.
04:56While in power, sharing power,
04:58they will do all those actions
04:59which is detrimental to the state.
05:01While they are in power right now
05:04in the state.
05:05And whatever they have done earlier
05:06they will oppose.
05:08And this governance issue
05:10has nothing to do with
05:11AR and Ravi or MK's talent.
05:13It is purely to do
05:14with the incompetence of DMK.
05:16Okay.
05:17Nothing else.
05:17Thank you very much Mr. Satyan
05:19for speaking with India Today.
05:20So you heard the spokesperson
05:21of AIA-DMK saying
05:23that this is not the right platform.
05:24He says there were options
05:26to sort this issue out
05:28but DMK is not taking them.
05:29Going back to India Today's Pramod Madha
05:31for this Pramod.
05:33Clearly, you know,
05:34this is something
05:35that we have seen
05:36for a very long time.
05:37DMK and the governor
05:38at loggerheads.
05:39But now at a public platform
05:41at a convocation ceremony
05:43maybe this seems
05:46a little inappropriate
05:47and also the student concern
05:50must have planned it earlier only.
05:52Well, Anjali,
05:56one thing is very certain
05:57because this is not the first time
05:58governor faces something like this.
06:00Earlier,
06:00while he was talking to students
06:01who had cleared NEET
06:03in Rajabod in a program,
06:05what happened is that
06:06one of the fathers of a child
06:07actually went ahead
06:08and he openly questioned
06:09the governor
06:10why he has not provided
06:11the assent to a bill
06:12that was passed against NEET
06:14by the Tamil Nadu government.
06:15But the governor went ahead
06:16and said
06:16that if a governor
06:17does not provide the bill
06:19I mean passes a bill
06:20or gives assent to a bill
06:22it means the bill
06:24has fallen flat.
06:25That turned out
06:25to be a huge controversy.
06:27So, it definitely looks
06:28like borders are not
06:29being maintained
06:30by people
06:31who are in high positions
06:33and that is slowly
06:34trickling down
06:34to the caterers
06:35or the people
06:36who are supporting them
06:37as well, Anjali.
06:38Right.
06:38Pramod,
06:39thank you for all those details.
06:41So, clearly
06:41the governor there
06:43snubbed by a student
06:45who was there
06:45to take her degree
06:46but it seems
06:47she is a DMK officials.
06:51Joining us right now
06:52is Kay Sarwanan.
06:54Thank you very much
06:55for speaking with us
06:56Mr. Sarwanan.
06:57Yeah.
06:58The question is
06:59is this appropriate
07:01at a platform
07:02like a convocation ceremony?
07:05See,
07:05any platform
07:06it's a great platform
07:08to show
07:10that Mr.
07:12Governor
07:13is the most
07:14unsavory figure
07:15unsavory political figure
07:17in the state
07:18of Tamil Nadu.
07:20We wish her
07:20good luck.
07:22We support
07:23her courage.
07:24We wish her
07:25for her courage
07:26to have taken
07:27a stand.
07:27It's not easy.
07:28It's not easy
07:29to do that
07:30on such a big stage.
07:31So,
07:32her love
07:33and passion
07:34for Tamil
07:35and people
07:36of Tamil Nadu
07:36and the state
07:37of Tamil Nadu
07:38has made her do this.
07:39we salute
07:40her courage.
07:42But Mr.
07:43Sarwanan,
07:43could this issue
07:44not be sorted out
07:46with other means,
07:47the governor
07:47and the government?
07:48You know,
07:49you have been
07:49at Loggerheads
07:50for a long time.
07:51Discussions
07:51and dialogues
07:52can happen
07:53about the bills.
07:55But using
07:56a convocation ceremony
07:57in front of students
07:58can be detrimental
08:00to what we try
08:02to put out
08:02into the public
08:04and for the students
08:05as well.
08:07See,
08:08it is an
08:08independent student,
08:11individual student.
08:12She may have
08:13had political affiliations,
08:14but nobody
08:14from BMK
08:15has asked to do that.
08:17She has
08:18her own will,
08:19own volition.
08:21So,
08:22it's her view.
08:24But the way
08:24that the governor
08:26has been called out
08:27repeatedly
08:27by the people
08:28of Tamil Nadu
08:29is very heartwarming.
08:31This is how
08:31we'll have to
08:32stand up
08:32to authority.
08:35Okay.
08:36Thank you very much,
08:37Mr. Sarvanan,
08:38for speaking with us.
08:39DMK,
08:40they're claiming
08:40that she's
08:41an independent student.
08:43Despite her affiliation
08:44with DMK,
08:45she did it
08:45on her own,
08:46on her own choice.
08:49So,
08:49the question here is,
08:51this entire
08:52tussle
08:53between the governor
08:54and their government,
08:56should that be played out
08:57so publicly
08:58in front of students?
09:01in front of students?
09:02Thank you very much.
09:03Thank you very much.
09:04So,
09:05thank you very much.
