00:00Hello and welcome to Khaleesh Times. Today we're joined by Nitesh, founder and president of
00:05S.P. Jain School of Global Management. Nitesh, thank you so much for being with us here.
00:10Same telly, my pleasure, Dala. Thanks.
00:12So, what inspired S.P. Jain to develop its own AI tutor instead of relying on third-party
00:19applications or platforms like ChatGPT or other ad tech tools?
00:24Technology is disrupting every industry. Just look at the microprocessor industry. Intel,
00:33which was the leader for five decades, has just overnight been overtaken by NVIDIA. So,
00:39at S.P. Jain, we want to develop or we want to deliver the very best experience for our students.
00:46And we could not do it without embracing wholeheartedly AI technology. Now, the conventional
00:55technology like ChatGPT that you mentioned is general. It's for the mass market. It's not
01:03customized for education and it's really not customized for S.P. Jain's delivery. So,
01:11we had to create our own platform, our own technology, so that S.P. Jain's students get
01:19the very best of personalized learning. So, S.P. Jain has been at the forefront of integrating AI
01:25into education. If you could tell us how does your AI tutor personalize education for your students?
01:34We need to understand that all students are different. So, you have a classroom of 50 students,
01:42but each student is an individual sitting in the classroom and they come with different backgrounds,
01:49different ability to learn. So, we have created this technology in various formats. So, firstly,
01:59pre-class learning. The goal of the pre-class learning is to get all students up to the same level even
02:07before the class. So, they come to class and they really are able to engage with the faculty like never
02:16before. So, our tutor will give exactly exam-like questions to every student so that they know what
02:24they don't know and they get taught. So, they go and practice before the exams in a very thorough way.
02:32How does the AI tutor know exactly the questions for each student? Like, how does it,
02:38if you could tell us a bit of how it works? The AI tutor that we call AI ELT, it's our brand,
02:46customizes the learning for every student by asking the student questions using the Socratic method of
02:57learning. So, that means the tutor will ask questions, determine the level of the student,
03:04and move the pace the student can learn because the next question is based on the answer of the first
03:10question. And if the student doesn't know, it will teach it. You didn't know this, this is the correct
03:16answer. So, therefore, the learning experience for the student is really both pleasing, beneficial,
03:25and effective. Only the best students would participate in the class. If you didn't know,
03:32you didn't really want to make a fool of yourself in front of all your peers to say, to ask a stupid
03:38question. But now, because you're coming so much more prepared, all students are engaging,
03:44and faculty are required to give scores on student engagement. Previously, our students needed four
03:53interview tries to get one job. Now, these are top jobs, but they still needed four attempts. But,
04:00Dala, you'll be surprised that four has now dropped to two. Two interviews, one job, and it can't go below
04:07two because any and every company would at least interview two people for one position. So, we have
04:16already hit that level, and it's a proof. SVJN's tutor is the first in the world. There is no university
04:28in all of Asia, in all of Europe, and even the United States that has our technology.
04:35What role does human faculty play in conjunction with the AI tutor? Does it challenge them?
04:41And the AI tutor is a tool given to students, but the faculty play a very important role. As a coach,
04:51you need that encouragement. So, students need that human effort. You can do it. Come on. And that human
04:59aspect is very important because we're humans. We are not machines. The tutor may be a machine, but we
05:06are still human beings. So, we still need that human encouragement and that human touch to say,
05:16you can do it. Please move ahead. I think faculty need to apply the concepts that they've learned. The
05:23theory can be learned by the tutor, but how do you apply it to the real world? When, if you apply it and
05:29you get stuck, what happens? So, that's where the professor helps and coaches her students to enhance
05:37their learning as an overall learning, not just technical learning. How does SVJN's AI tutor support the
05:45UAE's vision for artificial intelligence? His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, being the visionary that he is,
05:52has very quickly understood that his country needs and his people need to understand or appreciate or
06:02get skilled in AI before any other country. And therefore, now he's embedded this in the curriculum
06:11at the school level, not even at the higher education level, right from high school. So, I think when
06:24children learn and understand AI, they embrace it. And I think it is his vision for the UAE that
06:35the citizens of UAE must lead the world when it comes to AI. We are giving it to especially high schools with
06:48underprivileged students. Underprivileged can mean financial underprivileged or it can mean a physical
06:58disability you can't see or there are many forms of handicap students. And we give that. We give the
07:08hardware, the software, the training, everything for such students because we feel that's our obligation.
07:16Thank you so much for being with us here today and telling us a bit more about the AI tutor and the
07:21advancements that your school is offering and providing the students. Thank you Tala. It was a real
07:29pleasure to meet with you today.
