On Sunday, Rabbi Josh Levy and Rabbi Charley Baginsky were booed off the stage at a rally for October 7 hostages in London after saying Palestinians had the right to self-determination.
Transcript
00:00I'm honoured to introduce Rabbi Charlie Baginski and Rabbi Josh Nevey, co-leaders of the Unified Progressive Judaism Movement.
00:13On October 7th, 2023, Hamas unleashed horror on Israel and on all the Jews in the world.
00:34They murdered, burned and kidnapped, shattering lives and shattering peace.
00:40The responsibility for this war and for the agony it has brought lies with them.
00:47And still today they hold 50 hostages, living and dead.
00:53These are not statistics, they are mothers and fathers, children and grandparents.
01:00They have names, faces, birthdays missed, embraces delayed and tragically funerals delayed too.
01:10They must come home. There is no higher priority for us.
01:16And this is why we stand here as one united Jewish community today.
01:22With all of our difference that we hold between us, we demand together that the hostages are brought home.
01:32This is an issue that belongs to all of us and we stand in solidarity against Hamas and all who wish to destroy Jews and the Jewish state.
01:46Last night, tens of thousands of Israeli Jews gathered on the streets to protest for the release of the hostages.
01:56They protested against Hamas. They protested against policies and rhetoric that doesn't allow the hostages to come home.
02:07And we must be brave and honest enough to do so.
02:15Rhetoric like this does lasting damage to Israel.
02:21With those protesting in Tel Aviv, in Jerusalem and across Israel, we call for an end to this war.
02:31Through a deal that brings the hostages home and the permanent restoration of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
02:39Let us be clear about Palestinian statehood.
02:53The Palestinian people, like us, have the right to self-determination.
02:59But how it is done matters too.
03:07We reject a methodology that tries to force this future through violence, terror and the suffering of civilians.
03:17Statehood cannot be built on the blood of innocents and peace will never grow from the sway of pain and hatred.
03:27We say this, we say this, because we affirm our common humanity.
03:39We mourn for those who were murdered on October the 7th.
03:45For the soldiers who have fallen, for innocent people in their lives have been lost.
03:51It's not political. It's about the hostages.
04:03You should be ashamed of yourself.
04:07Let their speech! Let their speech! Red speech! Red speech!
04:25It is my honor to invite Lord Pollock, President of the Conservative Friends of Israel to speak.
