00:00The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss Israel's widely
00:07condemned plans to take control of Gaza's city. The Assistant Secretary General for Europe,
00:13Central Asia and the Americas warned the plan would further endanger the lives of the
00:16Palestinian population and the Israeli hostages.
00:20If these plans are implemented, they will likely trigger another calamity in Gaza,
00:27reverberating across the region and causing further force displacement, killings and destruction,
00:37compounding the unbearable suffering of the population.
00:41Israel's representative reiterated Prime Minister Netanyahu's earlier statement to establish security
00:46control in Gaza with an independent governing authority. The Palestinian representative said
00:52such a plan would prevent independent Palestinian statehood and that Israel should support
00:56Palestinian authority governance in Gaza. The United States defended Israel, saying it has the
01:02right to decide what's best for its security. They called allegations of genocide in Gaza false.
01:08Called by Denmark, France, Greece, the United Kingdom and Slovenia, all members of the Council
01:13supported the talks except the United States, according to media reports.
