00:00Not only score a touchdown, but go on a drive that was methodical, well-executed,
00:05good play calling, clean operation, all those things.
00:09I take more away from that as applicable to how I feel about this game
00:14than any of the other notes I've got on my notebook here.
00:16Very few curse words on my notes today, unlike a lot of games.
00:19I'll do a good start.
00:20That's right.
00:21That's right.
00:21We've got a new Sean.
00:23Yes, well, that's mostly because of the lack of importance of the second half of this game.
00:27That voice you hear is Clint Sterner.
00:29I'm Sean Pendergast.
00:30It is Texans postgame, presented by Reliant here on Texans Radio.
00:3320-10 the final score, but I think, to me, Clint, the biggest thing,
00:38and I think the thing that's the most encouraging thing in this game,
00:42is that the starting offense, which obviously didn't have C.J. Stroud,
00:46but it had Davis Mills, and you never know when you're going to need your backup quarterback.
00:49The operation looked pretty good, I thought, in that opening drive for them.
00:52The only drive Davis got the whole game, if I'm not mistaken.
00:55Yeah, he went one drive.
00:56One drive, 10 plays, 74 yards, I think, five runs, five passes.
01:02Couldn't have drawn it up much better than that.
01:03Yeah, look, with the exception of a couple of days where I think Davis has had some interception issues in camp,
01:07I mean, Davis has had a really, really good camp.
01:09I mean, when it comes to being clean and crisp and getting out of the huddle
01:12and taking care of the football, I mean, he typically is a really, really solid backup.
01:17He showed that today.
01:19You know, look, I agree with you.
01:20I think one of the biggest takeaways from today is we hear a lot of, you know, talk, obviously,
01:28in the preseason and in training camp.
01:31We talk to a player or a coach multiple every day, right?
01:35And so when you see the first is that you see some semblance of what you've heard come to life, right?
01:43And I think we saw that in that first drive.
01:46You talked about how clean and crisp it was.
01:48I think they've been very vanilla.
01:50They've been very intentional with their install of this offense.
01:54I mean, they went walk-through, maybe a jog-through pace for four or five days in camp
01:58where they spent a significant amount of time installing basic run plays,
02:02inside run, and a couple of play action and some protection stuff.
02:05And today, you saw that clean product, right?
02:08They also have talked about whether it was Nick Casario, Nick Cayley, D'Amico Rines.
02:14I think we've heard Titus Howard.
02:15I think we've even heard Jake Andrews, the center, one of the centers that's in the competition.
02:20We've heard them talk about punching people in the mouth
02:23and being physical and getting movement and running the football.
02:26And we saw that with the first unit immediately with this Texans team today.
02:31So I think first and foremost, before we dig off into the weeds,
02:35those two things were very, very important.
02:37The clean, crisp, efficient, and then the nature in which they did it
02:41seemed to be with a little bit more physicality,
02:43which matches what they've said over there over the last couple of weeks.
