00:00You're kidding me, right?
00:02Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're examining the most infamous times a famous face showcased their detachment from reality
00:08when appearing on live TV broadcasts, social media streams, or talk shows that had live elements.
00:14Well, I've been doing this for 15 years now, so half my life, and there's its up and downs.
00:20Toilet Racism
00:21Sometimes, when a celebrity says something racist on a TV show, others on screen don't pick them up on it.
00:27Unfortunately for Kelly Osbourne, that didn't happen for her in 2015 on The View.
00:32As the group was discussing Donald Trump's immigration policy as he rose in polls,
00:36Osbourne chimed in with a tone-deaf comment she likely thought would inspire an applause break.
00:41If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?
00:47Immediately, her co-host called her out, causing Osbourne to frantically backtrack.
00:51I'm not part of this argument with...
00:53I think what you're saying is that Trump himself...
00:55He needs to look at...
00:56He probably relies on a lot of these people that he's insulting.
00:58The outrage from viewers was just as intense as she was forced to apologize publicly.
01:03In 2024, when looking back at the incident, Osbourne regretted her comments,
01:07calling it the worst thing she's ever done.
01:09I'm not okay that I hurt people's feelings, and it was my poor choice of words,
01:14and it doesn't reflect my opinion at all.
01:15Cardboard Minion
01:16Kim Kardashian is well-known for being over-the-top when it comes to her excessive lifestyle.
01:21Even so, no one was expecting her to admit to one bizarre habit during her appearance on Jimmy
01:25Kimmel Live in 2024.
01:27You have someone take the Starbucks sleeve off your coffee because you hate the sound of cardboard.
01:33And I...
01:33Yes, that's true.
01:34And I hate the feeling.
01:35The host asked Kardashian about a variety of rumors, including that she has someone else remove the
01:39cardboard sleeve from her Starbucks order, which she confirmed.
01:43Apparently, Kardashian despises the feel and sound of taking it off, comparing it to nails on a chalkboard.
01:48Whoever I'm with, I just can't see it being done, or I can't hear it, and I can't feel it.
01:53So, she hands it to whoever she's with to dispose of it for her.
01:57Apparently, it doesn't extend to all cardboard, just the coffee sleeves.
02:00So when the Amazon delivery driver comes, do you, like, run upstairs?
02:05This fear of cardboard that you have?
02:10Only on a coffee cup.
02:11Wow, all this stuff is true so far.
02:13Space Singalong
02:14In 2025, the Blue Origin NS-31 mission, a trip involving several celebrity women, took off into space for 11 minutes.
02:23Liftoff.
02:25New Shepard has cleared the tower.
02:27While this may have seemed like a milestone for them, it wasn't celebrated by more down-to-earth types.
02:32The trip was already criticized for cringy content in the run-up.
02:35The expense of it when most people are struggling financially and damaging the environment, resulting in it not being well-received by the public and even other celebrities.
02:44Think about how many resources went into putting these women into space.
02:48For what?
02:49For what?
02:49What was the marketing there?
02:50And then to try to make it, like, I'm disgusted.
02:53Literally, I'm disgusted.
02:54It got worse when footage came out of Katy Perry singing It's a Wonderful World in space, showing her set list for her tour, and treating the experience as a pivotal moment in human history.
03:04It's not about me.
03:05It's not about singing my songs.
03:07It's about a collective energy in there.
03:10It's about us.
03:11With all the backlash, Perry responded that she regretted the public spectacle of the mission.
03:16Quarantine Jail
03:172020 was a rough year.
03:18After all, the COVID-19 pandemic forced many to remain stuck in their homes during lockdowns, and unable to see family and friends in person.
03:26It says, be kind to one another.
03:29Here's another one, be kind to one another.
03:31Another type of mask.
03:33But fear not, celebrities were there to remind everyone that they have it worse than we do.
03:37While filming an episode of the Ellen DeGeneres show at her abode, the host made a thoughtless joke that enraged viewers already frustrated by everything.
03:45DeGeneres compared being in lockdown in her home to being in jail.
03:48This is like being in jail, is what it is.
03:51Yikes.
03:52People were livid that she was making such a comparison as she sat inside her large estate.
03:57Others pointed out that the virus was running rampant through prisons, making the comment even more distasteful.
04:02We know this is a very serious situation that we're all dealing with.
04:06Tribute to herself.
04:07In 2018, we sadly lost the great Aretha Franklin.
04:11In memory of the Queen of Soul, from one music monarch to another,
04:14the MTV Video Music Awards had the Queen of Pop, Madonna, do a tribute to Franklin as she presented the Video of the Year Award.
04:21Aretha Louise Franklin changed the course of my life.
04:27However, instead of providing a moving speech about the legend,
04:31Madonna decided she would focus on her own music career and accomplishments, barely touching upon Franklin's life.
04:36I blurted out, you made me feel, silence.
04:42You made me feel like a natural woman.
04:46Two French guys nodded at me.
04:49I said, you know, by Aretha Franklin.
04:53With all the backlash involving accusations that Madonna had given a self-indulgent speech,
04:58she responded that her words weren't even meant to be a tribute.
05:00So, you're probably all wondering why I'm telling you this story.
05:09There's a connection.
05:10Because none of this would have happened, could have happened, without Our Lady of Soul.
05:18Instead, she claims she was asked to provide an anecdote about Franklin.
05:21Long live the Queen.
05:25The Most Hardship Award.
05:27When you think of people who have lived hard lives and kept pushing back,
05:30Paris Hilton isn't a person who springs to mind.
05:33However, for her, no one has had it tougher.
05:35Now when people look at me, they think that I'm something I'm not,
05:40just because of one incident one night.
05:41Appearing as a guest alongside her mom Kathy on Piers Morgan Live in 2011,
05:46the host asked her questions about her controversies,
05:48including the release of her intimate video and media scrutiny,
05:51which is a terrible situation to be in.
05:53It's something that's changed my life forever, and I'll never be able to erase it.
05:58However, after mentioning her thick skin, this sparked Hilton to state the phrase,
06:02Everything bad that can happen to a person has happened to me.
06:06Understandably, people who weren't multi-millionaires,
06:09and hadn't grown up in wealth like Hilton, weren't exactly feeling sympathetic.
06:13Gay Pop.
06:14In 2024, Jojo Siwa went from a child-friendly, colorful hair, bow-wearing performer,
06:19to a sparkly, glam-goth rebrand, which was largely mocked.
06:23I was a bad girl.
06:25I did some bad things.
06:27While chatting with Billboard,
06:29she commented that when she was talking with a record label,
06:31she told them she wanted to create a new genre of music, gay pop.
06:35What's that?
06:36And I was like, it's like K-pop, right?
06:38But it's gay pop.
06:39People were livid at the implication that Siwa was seemingly alluding
06:42to being the first LGBTQIA-plus person in pop music.
06:47They also pointed out the history of LGBTQIA-plus musicians,
06:50such as Elton John, Freddie Mercury, and Tegan and Sarah.
06:54Due to the backlash,
06:55Siwa claimed she meant she wanted gay pop to be an official genre of music,
06:59and she desired to be its chief marketing officer.
07:01Yes, there's so many gay pop artists.
07:03Oh my god, there's so many.
07:04Having a hard time.
07:06I appreciate that people are having a hard time.
07:08Me too.
07:08Yeah.
07:08I work for a living.
07:10If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here.
07:13In 2007, actor Whoopi Goldberg joined the talk show The View.
07:17In 2016, she extended her contract that was reportedly worth up to $6 million,
07:22on top of having had a high-paying Hollywood career.
07:25So, when she compared her financial stability to those with a lower income,
07:29it didn't land well.
07:30I'm a working person, you know?
07:32And my kid has to feed her family.
07:35In 2024, The View panel was discussing the theory,
07:39that working-class voters chose Donald Trump for U.S. president
07:41due to struggling financially.
07:43Goldberg proclaimed she understood that people were having a hard time,
07:47as she was too.
07:48But the thing that's bothering everybody
07:51should not be the thing that puts 85% of other people in danger.
07:59After all, she doesn't have all the money in the world,
08:02so she has to work on The View.
08:04Understandably, viewers were baffled by the grossly out-of-touch statement.
08:07Writer blame.
08:09You know what makes employees feel super good?
08:11When their wealthy boss chucks them under the bus in a public setting.
08:14Look, I'm just taking this all in.
08:15Let me look around.
08:17I'm taking this all in.
08:18I'm so excited to be here.
08:19Well, for writers who helped devise Joe Coy's opening monologue
08:22at the 2024 81st Golden Globe Awards, that's what happened.
08:26After bombing with one awkward and outdated joke after another,
08:29gathering groans from the audience, Coy needed to save himself.
08:33Oppenheimer is based on a 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book
08:38about the Manhattan Project.
08:40And Barbie is on a plastic doll with big boobies.
08:44As well as mentioning only getting the hosting job 10 days before,
08:47he uttered that he only wrote some of the jokes.
08:50After a brief rant, he went further,
08:52and claimed the ones people were laughing at were devised by him.
08:55Slow down.
08:56I wrote some of these, and they're the ones you're laughing at.
08:58Look.
08:59Yikes.
08:59With all the backlash to that comment,
09:01Coy apologized to his writers publicly.

09:18Pseudo-psychiatry
09:21Tom Cruise has had plenty of interviews that haven't made him look great,
09:25but his one in 2005 with Matt Lauer on Today
09:27would have likely destroyed anyone else's career.
09:30I've never agreed with psychiatry.
09:32Ever.
09:35Before I was a Scientologist, I never agreed with psychiatry.
09:38And then when I started studying the history of psychiatry,
09:40I started realizing more and more why I didn't agree with psychiatry.
09:43The host questioned Cruise on his previous criticism of Brooke Shield
09:46for taking antidepressants to combat postpartum depression.
09:50So, Cruise stated his belief that psychiatry is a pseudoscience,
09:54despite the evidence to the contrary
09:55and the lives saved by it and other similar treatments.
09:59Here's the problem.
10:00You don't know the history of psychiatry.
10:02I do.
10:03Cruise went further by essentially comparing psychiatric medicine
10:05to illegal substances
10:07and claiming a chemical imbalance in the brain doesn't exist.
10:10But, but aren't there examples where it works?
10:13You don't even, you're glib.
10:15You don't even know what Ritalin is.
10:16This, mixed with other erratic behaviors,
10:19saw Steven Spielberg fall out with Cruise for many years
10:21and caused Paramount to split with the star for a while.
10:24Because I don't talk about things that I don't understand.
10:26I'll say, you know what?
10:28I'm not so sure about that.
10:29I'll go find more information about it
10:31so I can, I can come to an opinion.
10:33Who do you think is the most out-of-touch celebrity around?
10:36Let us know below.
10:37This is a very important issue.
