During a campaign event on Wednesday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) who is running for governor of the state, was asked whether she'd bring a DOGE-esque agency to South Carolina.
Transcript
00:00Yep. Nancy, my question is, is everybody seeing Doge doing its thing up in the big White House?
00:07Are you going to bring that here to South Carolina? And the rumor is it's already on its way.
00:12I hope like hell, Doge, South Carolina is on its way.
00:16We just signed a rescission package that would cut $9 billion that Doge identified in cuts.
00:21I've helped Doge find some of these crazy contracts where we're wasting hundreds of millions of dollars,
00:27sometimes billions of dollars, gotten some of those contracts canceled, have had a hand in that.
00:33We already have a committee that's supposed to be looking at waste, fraud, and abuse in South Carolina,
00:38but I don't get the sense they're doing anything.
00:40And so in my economic plan to reduce the state income tax, you know,
00:45mandating that agencies cut 3% to 4% annually during higher increases, all of that gets us to that moment.
00:52And of course, we've got to audit some of our agencies, particularly the Department of Education.
00:56I want to know where all the money's going, and can we take some of it out of the bureaucracy
01:00and give it to our teachers?
01:02And get rid of that Common Core question.
01:04Oh yeah, Common Core at the end there.
