A quick tour of some of the great places we ate and drank at on our recent holiday to Costa Tequise in Lanzarote.

00:00hi everyone and welcome to bennett's travel blog i'm helen bennett and i'm steve bennett we are a husband and wife team and we love to travel
00:30morning so we are now in the square before everything opens really it is 10 30 in the morning
00:43it's probably about a three minute walk three or four minute walk from our hotel
00:49which is the thb lanzarossi beach and this place comes alive at night i'm told
00:57we were just it's this lady's birthday today we'll check it out later see if it does come alive
01:06so well um we were out basically scoping out a few restaurants and uh there's one just on the
01:12corner there called pablo's that does a chateau oh no what is it no not chateaubriand we'll have
01:18that the next night yeah tornado swassini which helen says she hasn't had for years and love so
01:25i think we've already nailed the restaurant
01:31so yeah as i say it's shut up at the moment but
01:37when all this opens up and maybe it'll be lovely tonight there's sort of an underground cave bar
01:43there called the snug bar which you've seen on quite a few vids
01:47so uh yeah it looks lovely and as i say our hotel is right on top of it so location wise
01:57it's perfect really there's hook up there cap'n hook
02:04i think if you go to the left of hook and film up there's some big character statues let's have a
02:10a look if memory serves me
02:13i'm sure enough there he is captain hook
02:34and his mates so yeah this place is dripping in bars and restaurants
02:46i'd say we only got here quite late last night about nine o'clock
02:51flight was slightly delayed but um
02:53so basically got in dumped a suitcase and shot out for a drink
02:59the plan was to eat but we didn't feel particularly hungry so
03:02we drank we drank
03:05we hit a cocktail bar on the front called surf wings
03:09which was really good
03:10and uh yeah this is the one i think we're gonna hit tonight
03:17pablo's restaurante canario and international
03:25i'll uh do a quick film of the menu in a second
03:31this place on the corner the crepes and waffles bar is supposed to be a bit special i've seen some
03:37videos of people wearing stuff on there i have to say it does look rather amazing
03:45oh yeah sorry i went to the wrong language so
03:54so you can pause the video anyway to have a look but just to give you an idea in particular
04:02that's what i've seen here at 22 euros i believe it's a fillet steak with like a pate on it yeah
04:12and they got a sirloin steak at 16 fillet steak at 19
04:20lamb shoulder of lamb i've seen that
04:24pork chops i quite like pork chops garlic chateau brion there
04:29oh yeah 19 year strong enough oh god that's the next night
04:36i'm a meat eater or anything we're only here for a week i think we needed to come for two because we've
04:41seen so many things we fancy eating but yeah it looks beautiful around here
04:46so for a bit of a giggle well plus the fact i'm not the the world's most mobile person
05:01um we're going to get in one of these double
05:05double buggy things to have a cruise up and down the strip
05:08we will film it we will film it there's a bit of a giggle and uh this is the lighthouse
05:18sort of the back entrance but the front entrance is all on the main strip
05:22and uh again a good menu there steak steak and kidney pie
05:27text max fillet steak here 22 euros so it looks like fillets are in about 20 20 to 22 so and a
05:38full english breakfast sausage egg bacon beans mushrooms plum tomato toast and hash brown six
05:46euros 50. that is pretty good so till midday yeah and do you want one yes please we're gonna have one
05:54it's my birthday i can it's her birthday
06:02so yeah we've pulled into the lighthouse it's 20 to 11. i was going to try and find a bar that
06:08we're showing the british lions rugby match and there are some around but we're left
06:12we didn't eat last night so we're a bit pecky so here's the uh breakfast menu for fill english at 6.50
06:19the double up on everything at 11.50 children's breakfast for 30 vegetarian smaller options
06:29but yeah it looks pretty good and uh nice coffee i think

06:41so gillen's gone for the vegetarian option i've gone for the small breakfast i'm glad we did
06:48looks good i'll let you know what it tastes like as i say we're in the lighthouse
06:52well as you can see it was pretty damn good i have to say it was really fresh nicely cooked and um
07:10they've even got hp sauce which made my day yep so the lighthouse great breakfast probably recommended
07:18six and a half euros and your verdict this is birthday girl
07:28well there you have it from the sauce not the hp sauce the helen sauce
07:40so we're um sorry about the voice over but we were walking along this sort of strip of shops bars
07:46and restaurants just down below the hotel you can drop down to these from the flight of stairs this
07:50is the um the fuel stock restaurant probably better known as the jack daniels restaurant
07:55because they specialize in jack daniels sauces on their steaks and burgers etc
08:00um it's always highly rated on the trip advisor and uh we did schedule a visit to this place we
08:07tried to get in once and it was chock-a-block but some year we managed on another occasion so
08:11uh dealt well worth a visit uh so we're storing around here and as i say the wind was
08:18blasting in but it was keeping us nice and cool um so uh there's the menu there if you want to have
08:23a quick look at the menu uh but i think their menu is online so uh you couldn't you can find that out
08:29prior to a visit but yeah i would definitely recommend uh popping into this place their burgers
08:33to die for uh only went there once i think next time it'll be ribs and steak probably for me with
08:40the jack daniels so uh we're strolling on when we come out in the morning it was pretty overcast so
08:46we didn't put any lotion on but as the morning progressed it got hotter and hotter so um my wife's
08:54about to make a pit stop in a minute to uh to shoot in and um to get some sun lotion rather than drag
09:01all the way back to the hotel so great views from this particular spot as you can see back across
09:06the bay and uh kuchara's beach so yeah very nice nice little area this so yeah there's a few shops
09:15along here shopping opportunities this is hennessy's bar so if you're not one of nice cold guinness that's
09:22that's the place to go uh they play all the sporting events as well they were showing the rugby matches
09:27whilst we were in in town so uh yeah again another popular popular spot there um shopping opportunities
09:37again my wife's got her eye on a couple of things in the window there but we'll we'll see if that
09:42transpires later in holiday maybe she makes a purchase and here she is just nipping into a shop for
09:47uh some lotion and there's a view of a giant flamingo for you wearing a sun hat because he doesn't want
09:54to get sun burnt obviously um so yeah we're right on the seafront here just panning around there um i
10:03padded over here to actually get some shade because it was it was pretty warm at this stage the sun was
10:09beating down and uh although it was windy um yeah yeah still pretty hot so uh that's looking back and
10:17that's the hotel the thb up above those shops so as i say you can just drop down quite easily
10:30so we're just walking back to the hotel and uh just to give you a feel there's a little pathway over
10:36there and the square uh pueblo marinara i think it's called it's like a two minutes that way
10:47the hotel is here there's a pub next door to it called the brandy well
10:53and they were doing some good music coming out of there last night i don't know if it's part of the
10:59hotel or it's separate i don't know i think that it might be because there is an interconnecting door
11:04from the reception of the hotel it must be then part of it but i don't think it would be part of all
11:10inclusive if you were there all inclusive yeah well i'll try and find that out but uh yeah it looked
11:16all right quite buzzy and uh so there is a cut through to the square uh this is a i think it's
11:26an italian restaurant there i think it's just opposite there's an indian restaurant on the corner
11:33as i said we almost share an entrance with the bar cello it's the bar cello entrance there
11:38and this is our hotel there's a road down there you just walk down there there's more shops and bars
11:45there so yeah you're right in the thick of it here although it's quiet oh yeah good
11:55i'll keep recording while we walk through
11:57we're walking through reception no aces of calm and cool
12:10entertainment every night brother soul stars on thursday
12:18the soul stars
12:19disco frank soul and mailtown divas on the dance floor
12:29well looks pretty good
12:36so we're in block three which is sort of the other side of the pool and we'll see the seaside of the hotel
12:49so we were originally assigned a a pool view double but we wanted
12:57a sea view and we were because of our self-cate went as such
13:01we wanted an upgraded room so we paid 20 euros a night and i think it's worth every penny
13:07so a pool here pool bar snack bar etc
13:25quite sheltered in here even though it's breezy because it's sort of enclosed
13:37well i guess the downside where it's breezy today you can't have bullies and you've got no shade out of it

13:44the sun view completely exposed
13:47yeah
13:54the normal reserving the sun bed game is going on here like every other hotel in the world
14:00so yeah we walk through the pool area
14:12it's a block three
14:18which is here there's a bit of noise they're doing the refurb of some of the rooms so my apologies for that but
14:24i'm going to grab the lift because i'm hot and here we are just a couple of faces from
14:38the lift is on room three two one two um i'm going to let my wife do the room tour so at this day i'm going to sign off
14:46stay i'm going to sign off oh my gosh i've got another bottle of champagne oh my god
15:00i'm going to do a strawberry margarita so this is the first stop on that looks good
15:11no but i'm tempted now oh this is the first stop on helen's birthday night we've
15:19just walked across from our hotel into the tex-mex restaurant because we're gonna we fancy the margarita
15:26and we'll probably eat here one evening looks quite jolly not very mexican so uh yeah looking
15:34forward to that so margarita here and i want say vodka martini somewhere so i think they might do
15:39one in the lighthouse but uh if not the lighthouse we'll find somewhere so there's another cocktail
15:46bar there that restaurant there that's supposed to be pretty good color blanca or something
15:50down on there you just walk down that road you hit the seafront there's a good cocktail bar there
15:57called sun wings we we went in last night and just before the lighthouse on the left he turned left
16:03and he gets you into the into the square pablo marinara and yeah so it's all going on in the square
16:11it's lovely so yeah more later now we've ordered our margaritas and i just turned up with two
16:23little glasses of prosecco just to say thank you for your custom so and very nice it is too ice cold
16:31lovely lovely it is 6 6 15 pm there's not a cloud there is some cloud over on the horizon actually
16:41but uh when we woke up this morning it was very gray and overcast still warm but uh for about 11 12
16:49o'clock the clouds parted and we've been blessed with blue skies all day as you can see so uh maybe
16:54that's the pattern because we've got mountains here maybe the clouds come in overnight and dissipate
17:00later but uh yeah this is one of the main strips lots of bars and restaurants along here but the
17:07whole resort is quiet and it's the fifth of july and uh i just expected it to be more buzzing but uh
17:16having said that we weren't in the bright lights last night so let's see what happens this evening
17:22and it's early and it's early don't lean back because there's a cactus behind you
17:36so the margaritas have turned up they look somewhat different but we will see
17:40it might have the old um grand manier in or something like that anyway
17:4624 karat it might be a 24k margot you i'm gonna give it the taste test
17:53oh god that is good that is lovely cheers i think she likes it happy birthday helen
18:02if only there was smell-o-vision because oh i can smell garlic i can smell all different herbs
18:22oh my god i can smell meat cooking oh i can just barbecue the smells are phenomenal
18:32so we are now in the square we call it the square i think it's pueblo marinero
18:40uh a short walk sort of like a minute and a half two minute walk from the mexican place we was in
18:46margaritas were good but a little bit pricey um so we probably won't be back there in a hurry
18:52although we didn't enjoy the drink so we're now in the bluebell bar we're going to try hook's next which is up

19:13so i think we're going to get some live music before long i think they always have music on in the
19:21in the square someone's getting their hair braided over here on sundays and wednesdays
19:27there's a market in here as well huge schools and what have you so but this place is just bars and
19:33restaurants and as helen said the smells are just amazing amazing so and here we are nice cold beer
19:42in a nice warm place
19:46so we're sat here in the square and there's live music playing
19:51this is lovely it is warm the smells
19:55smells like i wish it was smell-o-vision because the smells are amazing mainly garlic which i love
20:07but this is just oh my goodness it's just lovely
20:12all bars and fuzzy absolutely fuzzy
20:25it's so nice to see people relax they're on holiday no work no stress no washing no cooking no cleaning oh
20:34my god i'm in heaven
20:38it is just lovely
20:45so we've walked about 10 paces from the bluebell bar we're now in hook hook's cocktail bar
20:56and uh helen's gone for a classic vodka martini i'm going for a mojito because
21:02it's quite refreshing so we're still in the square as i say about 10 paces from where we were before but
21:09very different outlook nice and cool now because we're on the corner and the breeze is coming up the
21:14corridor way so yeah good and helen's filming i'm filming helen filming
21:23and she's going to start talking about the smells of the food again in a minute
21:26i can't help it sorry sorry i'm hungry now she's hungry now and it's her birthday so she gets what
21:34she wants it's my party and i cry if i want to hopefully there'll be no crying i've had a few
21:41drinks you can tell so our cocktails have arrived i've gone for one of my perennial favorites which is
21:47a mojito helen has gone for an all-time favorite a vodka martini unfortunately no olives but let's
21:54the taste test is happening now very strong very strong the man said it was strong it's very nice
22:02but very nice it's good enough for james bond it's good enough for my wife
22:06so yeah they're wearing hooks hooks cocktail bar on the corner as you walk into the square
22:13and we like hooks oh yeah we've had a change of plan can i just mention about the smells
22:20my wife wants to talk about the smells again uh yeah we are we've had a change of plan we were going
22:25to eat in pablo's which is down there i spent half an hour looking at the reviews and some are excellent
22:32and some are not excellent so it's it seemed patchy so uh but a more solid choice appears to be el patio
22:41which is uh and when you look el patio is heaving and pablo's is pretty quiet so maybe that tells you
22:48something so uh i've just been over saw the man i said i want to save up for two outside he said you can
22:54have it now or you can have it eight o'clock and it's now quarter past seven so we went for the eight
22:59o'clock option because that's perfect timing for our cocktails really apart from the girls
23:07england girls are playing football at eight o'clock against france but i can keep in touch with this
23:13four online we can cheers cheers angel happy birthday
23:20so we've done another 10 paces from hooks cocktail bar into el patio restaurant and helen's gone for
23:35the fillet steak option i've gone for a ribeye and we've got a nice bottle of chianti which is the
23:42perfect temperature for red wine and uh service has been absolutely all over us really really good
23:50service people are queuing up to get in this place so uh you know i sort of had to go i've worked with
23:56a guy and he was charming and said you can have a table now or you can have one at eight o'clock
24:02and we would just we just ordered drinks and hooks so uh went for the eight o'clock option and sure enough
24:08i turned up at two minutes to eight he whistled us straight in to an outside table which is what we
24:13asked for and uh we're in and that's father christmas over there for some obscure reason
24:22father christmas yeah crossed away there you go didn't expect to see him in july but there you go
24:33you suppose he has to have a holiday too
24:38so this is the ribeye which which covers the plate we got some shrimp and helen's gone for the
24:49fillet steak with canary and potatoes and salad i've gone vegetables and chips because i'm british
24:58the wine is delicious that's the sauces you have with the canary and potatoes and uh well yeah it's just
25:04humongous
25:08thank you and the rock four sauces just turned up as well so all good
25:19well it beat me and i can normally put away with a lot of food but
25:24and 800 gram ribeye
25:30was too much the garlic shrimp were delicious the rock four sauce was delicious the gianti was delicious
25:40the web wine was delicious but wow
25:43huge portions absolutely huge
25:54so the milkshakes have arrived helen has gone for the twix option there's anything to twix sticking out
26:03on the top there
26:08i've gone for the mars bar for the energy
26:10that's as helen said that's breakfast sorted out really very nice surf wings
26:21do a bit of everything here you can even get a club sandwich with your milkshake if you want one
26:25and the negroni and a negroni
26:34so at the thb lands of roti beach hotel there's a sort of a front gate which you can use as a
26:40shortcut to the seafront rather than walking around the roadway and so we just dropped down a couple of
26:45flights of stairs and it brings you out along to this little strip here there's a number of bars
26:52along here including the jack daniel's bar there's hennessy's wearing one called the waterfront and
26:58there's one next door the irish bailey and a few more around the corner which we're gonna
27:02have a little wander along to in a minute so it's uh and we haven't just spotted that they do
27:08breakfast in here as well you can have a takeaway breakfast if you want take it back to your room
27:15uh tapas face over there as well that's that's the barcelo hotel with the uh the green balcony
27:23bits right next door to ours and uh there's a looks like a uh sports bar but i looked at over
27:32there champs i'm guessing that's a sports bar and it says gin burger i don't know what a gin burger is
27:39but anyway but we're probably going to go to the um the jack daniels place because it's pretty well rated
27:45on trip advisor and in the forum so it's a burger and beer kind of night
27:58so the plan went sort of all belly up really we were going to go to um
28:03jack daniels we sat in a bar called the waterfront lovely hostess who looked after us really really
28:14really really liked that bar i have to stress they were lovely i had three large beers draught
28:23helen had three large wines and she said the wine was really nice it was just a house dry white wine
28:34and helen knows her wine and she said it was really good it wasn't just about the wine it was about the
28:40service and they were lovely really lovely they were very relaxed yeah lovely just sitting there sort of
28:49looking out to see having a cold beer and what have you anyway those um six drinks three large wines
28:56three three large beers come to the princely sum of 22 euros so 20 quid or whatever yeah which is
29:06pretty amazing so the plan was to go to jack daniels on the seafront uh down the bottom there but it was
29:13absolutely heaving in there it's not not the biggest place and um there were people queuing up outside and
29:21we were sort of starting to get a bit packaged so i i think we were probably have to wait for a while so
29:26we decided to just walk up the slope um into sort of the strip and we've come into the lighthouse we had
29:36a good breakfast here the other day in the lighthouse so we were we are now in a lighthouse as you can see
29:43it's uh very cloudy very overcast but it's still toasty warm and uh we are going for
29:51adam's gone on to the water now for some reason i'm having another beer and uh
29:58helen's ordered uh spaghetti carbonara i've gone for a rack of ribs
30:03we're having a little starter what did you order the starter darling mushrooms she likes the garlic
30:09mushrooms and i've gone for um the deep fried brie well i think it's probably going to be brie i'm not
30:16sure it said deep fried cheese so we'll see what comes out anyway so that's i plan to go to the happy
30:24dino for a bottle of bailey's to drink on the patio later so apparently we're having bailey's when we
30:36get home so when i say home i mean back to the hotel we'll record it we'll record it so this is nice and
30:45you're all right you're sitting in it in the main road i suppose but uh yeah this this place must be
30:51good because it's always busy even for breakfast it's busy there's a lot of people in here having
30:55breakfast so we had a good breakfast here the other day it's sort of the full english at six euros
31:01fifty we've seen cheaper don't get me wrong but i have to say it was really good so uh still not bad
31:09a fiver for a good good breakfast so double quick time the starters have turned out i've got the um
31:22deep fried cheese i don't know what cheese it is but i will find it
31:27ellen's got the um the breaded mushrooms which look pretty good i have to say nice nice presentation
31:36she's gonna give me a dodgy little mushroom for a big lump of cheese no i'm not
31:42you can't just give me cheese so yeah looks good looks very good we will see

32:46so we've just had a burger the size of a small planet in fuel stop that's the name of the top
32:59of the restaurant but it is probably better known as the jack daniels place because they do uh
33:04jack daniels rib eye jack daniels burgers and all that sort of stuff and it was i have to say
33:11it was really lovely really lovely and we've um for the first time since holiday we've gone for dessert
33:23thank you and then it's got this pancake stack of something what is it banana and
33:31oreo or something is it banana and nutella i've got for the baby's surprise whatever the
33:37bailey's surprises i'm not sure what the surprise is surprise is the bailey's i think when you get
33:42a glass of bailey's so that sounds pretty good but yeah it's been uh a night to remember we had a
33:50cocktail in place with kalima which was nice we then wandered into the square and sat in hooks
33:57on the corner watched the world go by had a few drinks in there okay you need to help me with this
34:02so and then uh come here for you fancy the burger and the burger was to die for so it was good
34:14i think she likes it
34:23it is yeah this was the only table available when we got in it sort of like out on the edge but we
34:29actually really liked it because it's a bit of a breeze and fantastic view and yeah loved it
34:36yeah i will definitely be back you can't say better than that can you
34:47so we are sat in we just had a quick pint in the retro bar we are now sat in hook
34:53we're sort of a visit in a few places we really like because it's our last night we went to the
34:57waterfront for lunch and the waterfront i do recommend don't be fooled by the appearances
35:03it looks a bit it looks a bit lived in shall we say but i have to say the service was fantastic
35:13it's the best tuna wrap i've ever had it was really good food good value yeah it was yeah good value and
35:21uh a nice nice spot really nice people looking out over the bay and what have you so we were we
35:27had a couple of lunchtime pints in there my wife is taking to drinking beer i never thought i'd see
35:33the day not tonight sangria sangria tonight cheers so we're in the square um pueblo marinero that's sort of
35:44uh and i don't know if i've said it but that is the largest rubber tree in a lanzarote so you heard
35:51it here and just panning back around to we really enjoyed we've been in three or four times now and
35:59uh love it love it and that there is el patio with the smiling man as the uh mate today on the door
36:08and we are eating there for our last night so we're looking forward to that
36:14what say you mrs b the birthday meal was exquisite so i'm sure tonight will be the same i can't wait
36:23we will show you we will share it with you
36:25so we are made it over the free paces from hooks to el patio um helen's chosen the wine
36:40because it's her birthday holiday week and the chianti is lovely i do like a nice red so we are
36:48we've ordered our dinners we're both doing philip steak helen's gone mushroom sauce i've gone blue cheese
36:55that's what i do and um we're sitting outside well sort of underneath the
37:02underneath the sort of terrace thing here and it's uh smells from here amazing
37:10you need to go you need we need to do we need to do smell-o-vision on youtube or something like that
37:16but you need to book this restaurant yeah we put this yesterday and um people were queuing up outside
37:21the door to try and get a table and they couldn't you know there's a restaurant next door called
37:26pablo's which very similar menu but um it does nowhere near as nowhere near as busy as here and
37:37um i think that probably says something so uh anyway yeah i'll i'll film the dishes when they turn up
37:44we've not done starters we've just got to go all in and we we order some shrimp to go with with the
37:50main the the garlic shrimp are just to die for out here sizzling shrimp in the garlic oil it's lovely
37:59anyway more to come bye for now
38:02all right the food has arrived um i think there's more to come like the sauces and whatever so we have
38:14onions garlic storms still sizzling bread sauces canary and potato sauces fillet steak with canary and
38:26potatoes mushrooms mushrooms and a fillet steak with chips and salad chianti
38:36what more can a man ask for and i tell you this looks the doodals it's the the dog's doodals i've
38:43just had a bit of my credit steak and it is absolutely amazing so tender the blue cheese sauce
38:52eat gorgonzola sauces to die for it's looking good
39:09so we managed most of it the states have all gone there's a few shrimp left that we couldn't quite
39:15handle a few mushroom the onion rings went there's a bit of bread i didn't even go near my salad
39:21which is probably not something to be proud of but and there's some red wine left but that was
39:27absolutely sensational lovely lovely milk absolutely lovely milk you will get cheaper i'm not sure you'll
39:37get better no
39:43so yeah el patio i'll put it this way next time i'm back here i'll be back here if you know what i mean
