00:00Sunderland's 1-0 home loss in pre-season against Spanish side Real Betis saw Granit Xhaka make his first appearance for the club following his summer move from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
00:12Now of course Granit Xhaka has played for Arsenal in the Premier League in the past and has since gone on to Germany to do good things with Bayer Leverkusen.
00:21But now having come back to Sunderland many Sunderland supporters are getting very excited about the prospect of him being a part of their midfield going into the Premier League for the upcoming season.
00:31Xhaka wore the captain's armband as Sunderland took on Betis at the Stadium of Light and so it is likely that he will play a big role in Sunderland's season to come.
00:41Yes he's in his early 30s now Xhaka but an experience that he will bring to Sunderland's midfield that they did not have before his arrival could prove to be invaluable in their hopes of staying up in the Premier League.
00:55Now after the game itself Regis de Brijes was asked an awful lot about Xhaka and what he will bring to the side as well as what him coming to Sunderland signifies in terms of significance and what it says about Sunderland as a club.
01:10So let's hear now from Regis de Brijes to hear exactly about the move itself and about Granada Xhaka and his personality and playing style as well as just what him choosing Sunderland as his next destination means for the Premier League and for Sunderland as a club.
01:26Regis de Brijes also then went on to talk about other players at the club in terms of incomings as well as those who Sunderland may let go at the end of the transfer window because they are not part of Sunderland's plans going forward and going into the Premier League season.
01:42Certainly Le Brijes was quite decisive in terms of players that he does not see as part of his plans but also has made clear that he would like more incomings before the window ends and the season is fully underway.
01:54Yeah, we need maturity, level, consistency, experience and I think he brings everything and you can feel that for the others around him it makes the life easier and for the Premier League it's really important to have two or three players like that to help the younger lads.
02:20It means something probably about Sunderland, about the owner, about the sporting direction, about the whole project so to be attractive like that I think is really important for us it means something and
02:36for the club it means something and for the club it's an important signature because it will help massively in the squad I think it's really easy to speak with him because he understands everything and he is still really humble so which for me is not a surprise but it's always good and nice to see that at the best level the players
03:05players can have a huge experience and at the same time they want to learn and his behaviour so far was absolutely impressive.
03:12It means something when a player like Granit comes in, it means that if he trusts the process, he trusts the project and I hope for the two, three, four, maybe players will have to add to the squad and they will understand that we are really ambitious and we assume to be competitive players.
03:19for the next year for the next year we are improving the squad so we are improving the squad so the players around necessarily will have to be a competitive team for the next year.
03:26for them it's fair that for example the players will have to have consequences consequences and for them it's fair for the players who are improving the squad so the players around necessarily will have consequences and for them it's fair enough.
03:45improving the squad, so the players around necessarily will have consequences.
03:54For them, it's fair to say that we'll find a new solution for the season.
04:00We try to improve the squad with better players, but first of all, we have already some players
04:08and we have to trust them, and I think it's the case right now.
04:12And if we can add something new to improve the squad, we'll see, it's still possible.
04:18At the minute, no, but we'll have to find the game time for their next steps.
04:26I think if you stay on the bench or without game time for all season, it doesn't make sense
04:30for your progression, so we'll have, I think, the last two or three weeks, four now, opportunities
04:42for them.
