00:58in Daniel chapter 9 God showed the Prophet a general summary of his plan for the
01:03full restoration of Israel now chapters 10 to 12 contain the final vision that the
01:09Prophet received and in which we find specific details of God's plan in
01:13relation to his people Israel on this occasion his prediction covers the
01:18period between the Old and New Testaments with special reference to the Meadow
01:22Persian and Greek empires but finally Daniel also receives information about
01:29the events related to the time of the eschatological tribulation that Israel will
01:34experience when the Antichrist appears on the scene all this information that
01:40was revealed to the Prophet Daniel is very valuable to understand the times and
01:45events that happened and will happen around Israel now in chapter 10 of Daniel
01:50we see that a very powerful demon who is identified as the Prince of Persia opposed
01:55the Heavenly Messenger for 21 days so that he could not reach Daniel and give him
02:00that valuable information regarding the kingdoms of Persia and Greece that we
02:04find in the next chapter evidently Satan did not want this information to reach
02:09Daniel and the men let's read Daniel chapter 10 verse 10 onwards and behold a
02:17hand touched me and made me stand on my knees and on the palms of my hands and he
02:23said to me Daniel beloved man pay attention to the words that I will speak to
02:27you and stand up for to you I have now been sent as he spoke this to me I stood up
02:34trembling then he said to me Daniel do not be afraid because from the first day
02:39that you prepared your heart to understand and humble yourself in the
02:42presence of your God your words were heard and because of your words I have
02:47come but the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for 21 days but behold
02:53Michael one of the chief princes came to help me and I remained there with the
02:58kings of Persia I have come to let you know what is to come to your people in the
03:02last days because the vision is for those days my dears when the prophet Daniel
03:10received the visit of this heavenly messenger he was in Babylon in verse 1
03:14of Daniel chapter 10 we see that the prophet historically fixes the time of
03:18his vision in the third year of Cyrus king of Persia the word was revealed to
03:23Daniel who was called Belteshazzar this places us in the year 536 BC two years
03:32earlier Cyrus had decreed that Jews who wished could return to Jerusalem and
03:37more than 42,000 set out on their way back we find this in Ezra chapter 2 verse 64 at
03:45this time the exiles had already begun the reconstruction of the temple perhaps
03:51Daniel due to his advanced age he was over 80 years old did not return to the
03:56other exiles although it could also be that his duties in the government
03:59prevented him from doing so now chapter 10 of Daniel begins with the
04:05description of the conflict that the new revelation produced in Daniel the
04:09word was true and the conflict was great as it happened before the announced
04:16events distressed him and left him worried as we will see this great
04:21conflict can refer to the fact that Satan himself opposed the prophet receiving
04:26divine communication or also to the serious events that the people of Israel
04:31would have to go through and that the prophecy announced regarding the content
04:36of the prophecy we are told that Daniel understood the word and had
04:39understanding in the vision even so as we will see later he still needed an
04:44angelic interpreter to clarify some details for him understanding the grave
04:49difficulties his people would go through Daniel was afflicted for three weeks it
04:54was a time that he dedicated to prayer and fasting I did not eat any delicate
05:00food nor did meat or wine enter my mouth nor did I anoint myself with ointment until
05:06the three weeks were completed we assume that it was a time of intense prayer in
05:12favor of his people and also asking to fully understand the word received now the
05:19three weeks in which Daniel gave himself entirely to prayer and fasting
05:23concluded on the 24th day of the first month let us remember that the first
05:29month was when the Israelites had the obligation to celebrate the Passover and
05:33the seven days of the feast of unleavened bread and since Daniel has said I did
05:39not eat any delicate food nor did meat or wine enter my mouth we must understand
05:43that on this occasion he did not celebrate the Passover why didn't he eat the
05:49Passover lamb everything seems to indicate that the prophet had been greatly
05:53affected by the revelation he received it was in that context when God answered
05:58Daniel's prayers by sending him a heavenly messenger however we note that the
06:03heavenly messenger was detained for 21 days by a demon who is identified as the
06:08Prince of Persia let's read the biblical story then he said to me Daniel do not be
06:14afraid because from the first day that you prepared your heart to understand and
06:19humble yourself in the presence of your God your words were heard and because of
06:24your words I have come but the Prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for 21 days
06:31but behold Michael one of the chief princes came to help me and I remained there with
06:37the Kings of Persia I have come to let you know what is to come to your people in the
06:41last days because the vision is for those days in these verses we see that Daniel had
06:50been heard on the first day of his prayer this was because as he had been told
06:55before the prophet was a man greatly beloved by God but furthermore he had
07:02prepared his heart to understand and to humble himself this indicates the fervent
07:08desire that Daniel had to know the will of God and fulfill it when this is fulfilled there
07:13is no doubt that God will reveal himself to such a person however Daniel could wonder
07:19why the heavenly messenger had taken so long to answer his prayer let us remember that the
07:24prophet had been afflicted for three weeks and although Daniel did not express this concern
07:30the angel prepared to answer him but the Prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for 21 days
07:37but behold Michael one of the chief princes came to help me and I remained there with the Kings of
07:44Persia the divine messenger had gone out on the first day of the three weeks to answer their prayers
07:50however he had to fight for 21 days against the Prince of the kingdom of Persia we understand that
07:59this Prince must have been a satanic adversary an evil angel who was associated with the kingdom of
08:04Persia the word Prince which comes from the Hebrew meaning sar chief or head person of
08:11any rank or class waiter captain leader commander commissioner general governor great chief master
08:18mayoral officer principal the Prince all of these descriptions fit well with the New Testament idea
08:25that angelic ranks are organized and have hierarchies in Colossians chapter 1 verse 16 it says
08:32for in him all things were created those in heaven and those on earth visible and invisible be thrones
08:39be dominions be principalities be powers everything was created through him and for him
08:48in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 12 it also says for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against
08:55principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual hosts of
09:03wickedness in the heavenly places with these verses we see that these angelic ranks seem to include both
09:11faithful angels and fallen angels now the prince that Daniel mentions is a diabolical power an evil angel in the
09:20new testament they are also called demons this passage points out a ministry that angels have in human
09:28governments just as the Apostle Paul mentions in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 12 such ability to delay the
09:37response to Daniel gives us great evidence of the power of the prince of the kingdom of Persia somewhere in his
09:44flight from heaven from his abode the angel sent by God invaded the field of the heavenly places mentioned
09:50in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 12 populated by evil spirits Michael came to free said angel from that
09:58opposition of the prince of Persia this prince was a spirit of great evil it is no coincidence that today
10:05Israel's main enemy is Iran present-day Persia a nation controlled by the council of Ayatollah following Islamic
10:13precepts these demonic powers are subordinated to Satan who gives them the mission of leading that
10:19nation its leaders and the population in general to debacle and their own destruction now chapter 10 of
10:27Daniel reveals to us that there is often an all-out war in the heavenly places of which we are not aware
10:35in this incident the angel of God was able to leave the battle when Michael arrived but he had to return to
10:41fight the prince of Persia and then the prince of Greece let's read Daniel chapter 10 verse 20 he said
10:47to me do you know why I have come to you well now I have to return to fight against the prince of Persia
10:53and when I finish with him the prince of Greece will come but I will declare to you what is written
10:58in the book of truth and no one helps me against them but Michael your prince
11:02when analyzing these verses we see that an angel of evil operates in each nation however we also see
11:12that there are angels of God and in this case we see that the archangel Michael is the prince who
11:18fights on behalf of the nation of Israel Michael one of the chief princes his name means who is like
11:26God and he is called archangel in Revelation chapter 12 we also find him leading an angelic army against
11:33the dragon and his angels now he appears here again to clear the way so that the heavenly messenger could
11:39reach Daniel and give him the information regarding the kingdoms of Persia and Greece that we find in the
11:45next chapter but finally Daniel also received information about the events related to the time of the
11:51eschatological tribulation that Israel will experience when the antichrist appears on the scene evidently
11:58satan did not want this information to reach Daniel and the men regarding the content of the message
12:04that Daniel was going to receive the angel says the following I've come to let you know what will
12:10come to your people in the last days for the vision is for those days first of all we note that
12:17the prophecy that will be widely explained in the following chapters has to do with your people
12:23that is with Israel and it has to do with the period described here as the last days this term is used
12:32in various ways in the bible to refer to the future often understood from the perspective of the prophet
12:37himself in the following chapters which are 11 and 12 of the book of daniel we see that this future time
12:45extends both to the time of antiochus epiphanies and to the end times when the antichrist will
12:51persecute the nation of israel before being delivered by the coming of christ
12:59my dears we must note that although the prince of persia managed to hinder the delivery of the
13:03message for three weeks they were ultimately unable to prevent it this shows us that although satan and
13:10his followers have power it is limited power we are also struck by the fact that although god could
13:16have intervened to settle the matter immediately yet he did not do so the matter seems to have been
13:22resolved between the angels themselves it is curious to see how the conflict in the kingdom of men
13:29somehow affects the conflict between angelic beings satan himself and his armies became actively
13:36involved in this conflict in order to attempt to thwart god's plans here we have a little proof
13:42of the war that is waged in the heavenly realms between the angels of god and the demons
13:49therefore it had been the forces of satan that had caused the delay in answering daniel's prayer
13:54the truth is that we never thought that this could be the cause of the delay in our prayers being
13:59answered and on the other hand this also leads us to think that although daniel's prayer might seem
14:05insignificant it had cosmic repercussions in reality prayer is always about engaging in a spiritual
14:13battle this passage reveals to us that there is a world of evil that remains invisible to us
14:20but that is in permanent conflict so that the will of god is not carried out in the world of men
14:26the christian must discern that the power of prayer must not be seen only in one person's life but also
14:32from a global perspective the end times demand that god's saints engage in prayers for the world and
14:39its powers when our prayers go beyond our personal needs and enter into a global scope then we are
14:46entering the area where principalities and powers reside we need men and women around the world
14:52dedicated to prayer in the field of spiritual warfare
14:55dear ones as we can see there are spiritual beings fighting against spiritual beings a world above us
15:04is always active against the world that is visible this causes the heart of today's christian to wonder
15:11what angel of evil is over the united states venezuela haiti north korea india china the countries of the
15:19middle east africa the list is very long there are countries where the gospel is prohibited as we said
15:27before we need men and women around the world dedicated to prayer in the field of spiritual warfare
15:33in ephesians chapter 6 verse 12 it says for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against
15:40principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this age against spiritual hosts of
