At an event on Monday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) spoke about renewable energy spending.
Transcript
00:00As far as renewable energy spending with the Big Beautiful Bill, with the deadline set for next July for renewable energy projects to begin construction and qualify for federal tax credits, how could that affect maybe state plans and that kind of thing?
00:21No, it's devastating. When we learn this, the open hostility toward programs to supercharge our ability to head into a clean energy future for our children and grandchildren, what Republicans and Donald Trump did, is going to have dire effects.
00:37So I assembled my team immediately, and we are trying to do everything we can to expedite those that are already in the pipeline to get the approvals they need to move ahead.
00:46Otherwise, the loss of solar tax credits and wind, even offshore wind down in downstate, Donald Trump shut down an offshore wind project that was a $5 billion project, 10 years in the making, one and a half years left to get it done, to power half a million homes in New York City.
01:07They shut it down because he said they were worried about the birds. I don't believe that. I went in and argued we were successful in that one case, but it has suppressed interest in doing this in our country, whereas other countries are leaning into this.
01:23And it is enormously frustrating to me, but we're doing everything we can to make sure the products that are already out there seeking approvals get them as soon as possible.
