00:00Reports say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told ministers he will seek to
00:07fully occupy the Gaza Strip. It's a notable shift in tone from the Israeli government,
00:13which has so far maintained that his main goals were to defeat Hamas and free the hostages held
00:17in Gaza, not full occupation of the Strip. Last month, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon
00:24told Euronews that his country had no intention of occupying Gaza long term. It comes as many
00:30Western countries, including France, the UK and Canada, have moved to recognize a Palestinian
00:35state. Israel has recently faced increased scrutiny from its allies over its conduct in Gaza,
00:42amid a worsening humanitarian crisis that has left the population on the brink of starvation.
00:48Netanyahu rejects Palestinian statehood and has vowed to maintain open-ended control over
00:53occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank.
00:59The EU and Western leaders have expressed outrage over recently released videos showing two Israeli
01:06hostages in Gaza appearing emaciated and distressed. UK Foreign Secretary David Lamy condemned the footage
01:14as sickening, saying the images of hostages were being paraded for propaganda. French President
01:19Emmanuel Macron called the videos a reflection of Hamas's abject cruelty. Macron stressed France
01:26continues to fight for their release, a ceasefire, and increased humanitarian access, while German
01:32Chancellor Frederick Merz said he was appalled, reiterating that the release of all hostages must
01:38precede any ceasefire agreement. The wide condemnation comes after the Palestinian militant group Hamas released
01:45footage and images of two Israeli hostages amid growing pressure on both Hamas and Israel to allow
01:52urgent humanitarian access. Rom Brislavski and Evyata David, who appeared pale and emaciated, were abducted on
02:01October 7, 2023 during the deadly attack by Hamas on southern Israel, sparking the current war in Gaza. At least
02:101,200 people were killed and 251 hostages were taken, many of whom have been released. Brislavski and David
02:19are among the 20 hostages who thought to be alive in Gaza.
02:2368 African migrants were killed after a boat traveling across the Gulf of Aden capsized on Sunday. Over 70
02:36others are missing according to the head of the UN's Yemeni mission of the International Organization for
02:41Migration. The vessel, which was carrying 154 Ethiopian migrants, sank off the coast of the southern Yemeni
02:48province of Abiyan. Only 12 migrants aboard the ship survived the accident, a search and rescue
02:54operations to locate survivors continue. The UN says the bodies of 54 of the migrants confirmed dead
03:00washed ashore in the Hanfar district. The migrants were hoping to cross the Gulf of Aden and make their
03:06way to wealthy Gulf Arab countries in search for a better life. The UN says migrants are often taken by
03:12smugglers aboard overcrowded vessels, making dangerous trips that have killed hundreds. In March, two
03:19people were killed and more than 185 others were missing after four boats capsized off the coasts of
03:25Yemen and Djibouti. The UN agency says more than 60,000 African migrants arrived in Yemen in 2024.
03:32Russia launched several drones at Ukraine's Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk regions overnight, injuring several
03:44and resulting in widespread damage. In Odessa, the strikes triggered large-scale fires, severely damaging
03:52a disused dormitory, a private home and the city's electronics market. Several kiosks selling electronics
04:00and household appliances were destroyed. Firefighters, along with volunteers, managed to contain and
04:06extinguish the fires. No casualties or injuries were reported. Meanwhile, in Dnipropetrovsk, three
04:13people were injured, including a four-month-old baby, local media reported.
04:22Boeing workers at the company's fighter jet production plant in Missouri and Illinois
04:27went on strike on Monday after around 3,200 workers rejected a four-year labor agreement.
04:35The strike threatened to delay the timeline for the sixth-generation F-47 fighter jet,
04:41a project backed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
04:43The latest is our members today spoke loud and clear and they're not happy with
04:51Boeing's last, best and final offer. And so that's led to what we're doing tonight.
05:00The workers last week rejected an earlier proposal put forward by Boeing, which included a 20% wage
05:06increase over four years. The aerospace giant said it was disappointed union members rejected its latest
05:12proposal. Boeing has been in hot water in recent years after three high-profile passenger jet crashes
05:18killed hundreds of people in Indonesia, Ethiopia and most recently in India. Trump has tried to
05:24resuscitate the former industry leader by weaving in the purchase of Boeing commercial liners into
05:29a recent tariff deal with the European Union.
05:37India and the Philippines staged their first ever joint sail and naval exercises in the contested South
05:42China Sea from Sunday to Monday. The high-profile military deployment is likely to provoke China,
05:49which has laid claim to the majority of the waters. When asked, Filipino Armed Forces Chief of Staff
05:55Romeo Brona said the exercises had so far been successful and drawn no immediate response from Beijing.
06:02China claims the majority of the South China Sea, which borders the Southeast Asian mainland,
06:08as its own territorial waters, despite conflicting claims over parts of the waterways by Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.
06:18Portugal entered the second day of a state of alert due to high temperatures.
06:22In São Martinho de Anta, in the district of Vila Real,
06:25dozens of nursing home residents were evacuated due to the fire threat.
06:29The greatest concentration of resources were used in Vila Real, with over 300 firefighters and 121 land
06:44resources. At the beginning of Sunday evening, its mayors said that the firefighters were exhausted.
06:50So that's a rate of waren in the village.
07:08I saw the hell there, in those prédios, in those prédios.
07:12It was in seconds, it was everything that took us to the front.
07:17There was nothing, if the bombers were to help us, we would have nothing to do.
07:22The local authorities said that the wildfires burned several farms, as well as the surrounding scrubland, pine trees and eucalyptus.
07:29To let the fire calm, that it passes, to then return each other to their houses,
07:33and so they don't stay behind animals, or surrounded, or forgotten.
07:37We've already removed animals, we've already removed animals, we've already removed animals, we've already removed animals, and we've already removed animals.
07:42The state of alert in Portugal will last until Thursday with high temperatures, particularly in the north of the country.
07:53Romania's government said on Monday that it will use an EU support package to help people affected by flash floods
08:01that left at least three people dead in the country's northeast.
08:05The aid consists of amounts between 3,000 and 5,000 euros per case, which will be granted after damage assessments have been carried out.
08:15Bucharest will also activate the EU Solidarity Fund, through which Romania can access hundreds of millions of euros for the reconstruction of the areas.
08:24But this money will only arrive in a few months, according to the Romanian Prime Minister.
08:30In Sucheva alone, approximately 78 million euros is needed for the reconstruction of the city of Brusteni and other affected localities.
08:39At least three people were killed when torrential rainstorms hit Romania in late July.
08:45Hundreds were forced to leave their homes as rescue services deployed in Nemt and Sucheva.
08:51Some 680 homes were affected by the flash floods, which destroyed 41 houses, according to local media reports.
08:59Some lawyers and politicians in Germany are becoming concerned that freedom of expression is being restricted.
09:11They say state-funded reporting centers established to combat online hate too often misjudge opinions for hate.
09:20In isolated cases, citizens have reportedly been victims of police raids for posting memes critical of the government.
09:30Two such NGOs are now so-called trusted flaggers.
09:35Under the EU's Digital Services Act, they're supposed to remove illegal content from the Internet.
09:40Lawyers say they see too many connections to politics.
09:44Trusted flaggers are now because they are half-staatliche organizations,
09:49which are with state-of-state organizations, at least a large part, financed and ultimately decide to decide to decide to decide whether the Internet is legal and not legal.
10:02Some politicians in the governing CDU don't want to continue commissioning these trusted flaggers,
10:31indicating a possible government dispute.
11:31The coalition agreement states that false statements of fact are not covered by freedom of expression.
11:37Germany is also further ahead than other countries with trusted flaggers.
11:4114 EU countries still haven't appointed them.
