00:00Here's the reality on Jared Goff.
00:02His rookie season, he looked like he might be the worst player
00:04to ever be selected first overall in the history of football.
00:08That's how it looked.
00:09Then Sean McVay showed up, and you go, okay, McVay's great,
00:13but also Goff did have pedigree, so maybe give Goff some credit.
00:16And then we rewrite history,
00:18because I watched Jared Goff get ranked in front of Jalen Hurts
00:20somehow on these lists, because L.A. moved on from Goff
00:24because they didn't think they could win at a high level with him.
00:26We pretend like that didn't happen.
00:27And he's now played four seasons in Detroit.
00:32And it's very easy to figure out which one he played without Ben Johnson
00:36because it is easily the second worst season of his career.
00:4037 touchdowns, 12 picks, 4,600 yards,
00:43and completing 72.5% of his passes.
00:46That's how he ended his time with Ben Johnson.
00:50Before Ben Johnson got there, 3,200 yards,
00:5419 touchdowns to eight interceptions,
00:56completing 67% of his passes.
00:58His QBR, his passer rating,
01:00all as bad as they could have possibly been.
01:04I just, I don't think I'm willing to bet on Jared Goff.
01:08And if you want to bet on the Lions,
01:11so I've made a list, Lacey,
01:13of teams I'm considering as my Super Bowl pick,
01:15and Detroit's on it.
01:16Okay.
01:17But they're also the first team I can tell you
01:18I'm going to cross off that list
01:20because I can't bet on Jared Goff.
01:21Well, I'm with you in the sense of
01:24I just don't believe the OC and DC
01:26are going to live up to that expectation,
01:27and Jared Goff is turnover prone at times
01:30when he struggles.
01:31Go back to that game against Houston.
01:33They win that game, right?
01:34But he throws five interceptions
01:35against a very good defense.
01:38Coordinators can elevate a quarterback
01:39to a different level.
01:40And I'll make a similar assessment.
01:44Cincinnati, when they made it to the Super Bowl
01:46a few years ago, right?
01:47Losing organization, right?
01:49That makes it to the pinnacle.
01:50They don't win it, but then they get back
01:52the following year to the AFC Championship,
01:55don't win it, and look at where they're at now.
01:57Now, granted, injuries played a part in that,
02:00but still, that's another example
02:02of a losing organization
02:04that made it to the pinnacle,
02:05couldn't win a Super Bowl,
02:07and now they regressed to a point
02:09where we're hoping they could bounce back
02:11to where they were just a few years ago.
02:13When you look at Dan Campbell
02:14and you look at Detroit,
02:15it's like they had their window.
02:17That's the way I believe it.
02:18You got as much out of Jared Goff
02:21and that passing attack
02:22as you possibly could with Ben Johnson,
02:24and you couldn't get to a Super Bowl,
02:27and now you're expected to get back there again
02:29with a new OC, and that's where I say no.
02:31I think what's interesting, too, for Detroit
02:33is how this season begins, Joe.
02:36If you take a look at those first six games,
02:38four of them are on the road.
02:40Green Bay, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and KC.
02:43The gauntlet.
02:44I mean, to go through all of these changes
02:47while playing a very, very difficult schedule,
02:50it's not going to make life easy.
02:53Now, some of it could also come down
02:55to how you feel about the rest of the North, right?
02:57The thing is, it's a division that it's not hard
03:00for anyone to find a different team.
03:03You might not find the same team.
03:04Maybe you like Green Bay.
03:05Maybe I like Chicago.
03:06Maybe another person likes Minnesota,
03:08but you won't be hard-pressed to find a different team
03:13to like other than Detroit.
03:14That's when it's very difficult to play
03:16in a deep division like they're in.
03:18And that's why I think the 10.5 is right there.
03:20I think whoever wins it is going to be 10-7 overall.
03:23I think it's going to go back to the days,
03:24like we said, black and blue division.
03:26I think it's going to be 10-7 overall.
