00:00:30Good evening, three more matches from the opening weekend of the Premiership season on the way,
00:00:44plus the best bits from Saturday, all in the company of Charlie Mulgrew and Michael Stewart.
00:00:50We start with the Champions Celtic, who begin this season just as they finished last season with a match against St Marijn.
00:00:56Brendan Rodgers ready to lift the title again, breaks to Ayunga, a glorious moment for St Marijn.
00:01:09Here's Forrest, and this is his big moment, it is! It just seemed that the script was written for this.
00:01:16Celtic champions again, and just who is going to stop them?
00:01:21Captain Callum McGregor ready to walk out the team with the Scottish Premiership Trophy.
00:01:31St Marijn standing the guard of honour for the Celtic skipper.
00:01:38And both Celtic and St Marijn signed off with some fine-on-day drama in a draw here last season.
00:01:43But Paul McStay will unfurl the championship flag at Celtic Park.
00:01:52Brendan Rodgers and Celtic get set to defend and go on the hunt for a fifth consecutive title.
00:01:58The team news, Celtic, hand a second Premiership debut to Kieran Tierney.
00:02:03Benjamin Negrin makes his competitive debut for the Champions in midfield.
00:02:07And both Dyson Maida and Adam Ida start after scoring a combined 53 goals in all competitions last season.
00:02:15Steven Robinson selects three from his new signings.
00:02:18Stopper Shemal George knows the Premiership from his time at Livingston.
00:02:21Another is former Aberdeen defender Jadon Richardson, who also starts with Jamaican international Richard King.
00:02:28Fraser Taylor was League One Player of the Year at Arbroath on loan,
00:02:31and is looking for a breakout season at the Buddies.
00:02:33Before kick-off this afternoon, a chance for Celtic to remember the former Lisbon Lions,
00:02:42John Clarke and John Fallon, who sadly recently passed away.
00:02:51Johnston.
00:02:54Yang.
00:02:56And sees the run.
00:02:58Keeps control of the ball.
00:02:59Tight pass for Hattati.
00:03:02Johnston has the space.
00:03:04First time cross, fired in.
00:03:07Need a round.
00:03:08Marcus Fraser stuck with the Celtic striker all the way.
00:03:13Patient build-up from Celtic, look.
00:03:20It's quick link-up play.
00:03:22Lots of space on the left side for Kieran Tierney.
00:03:26Goes behind Maida, look.
00:03:27Look at this energy.
00:03:31It's never a lost cause.
00:03:35He is again.
00:03:37Spots Johnston in that central role.
00:03:40Back towards Dyson Maida.
00:03:43Well, he was not far away there.
00:03:47Johnston playing a key part in the middle, all alone there.
00:03:50He knew the run was happening.
00:03:52It was just maybe an inch away from the toe of Dyson Maida.
00:03:55Scales thought about shifting it to the right.
00:03:59It's back down the left side.
00:04:01Maida pointing.
00:04:02Roll towards Hattati.
00:04:04Gogic steps in.
00:04:06St. Benin will be looking to hold some possession here because they've not heard the ball recently.
00:04:10Maida punishes with the steal.
00:04:13Ida's through.
00:04:14A strong goalkeeping from Shamal George.
00:04:17But he's in trouble.
00:04:19This is Adam Ida holding the back of his left leg.
00:04:22Brave goalkeeping from the Buddy's new recruit.
00:04:26That pass from Taylor just asked a little much of a hara.
00:04:30Maida, no surprisingly, first to it.
00:04:34Steven Robinson won't be pleased enough.
00:04:37How his side have dealt with the dangerous moments.
00:04:47This is Tierney.
00:04:49He's looking for some wide support.
00:04:50He'll go alone.
00:04:52Before waiting in the box.
00:04:54Richardson doesn't allow the cross, but Tierney sticks with it.
00:04:57Creates the space.
00:04:58It's over for Ida.
00:05:01Comfortable for George.
00:05:02It was all too easy in the end for Kieran Tierney.
00:05:05And just look at Adam Ida here.
00:05:07He moves in front of King.
00:05:08He has the space to try and direct the header.
00:05:15Maida passed around the corner for Ida.
00:05:17Took a bit of time to get the ball under control, but the nudge is enough.
00:05:25Don Robertson awards the free kick.
00:05:26It's taken quickly and Maida's through around Shamal George.
00:05:30And that was the right decision in the end from Richard King to let the ball run through his legs.
00:05:39But when you see Dyson Maida in behind a Scottish Premiership defence like that, you're expecting something to come of it.
00:05:47Yeah, and for Johnston.
00:05:54Celtic crate down the right side.
00:05:59Johnston whips over.
00:06:02Maida lets it drop.
00:06:03It's Tierney!
00:06:07Gogic turns it over his own crossbar.
00:06:11Gogic doing the job of watching the Celtic man, but also turning the ball away.
00:06:15Endon Rodgers looking for more success at Celtic this season.
00:06:21Entering the final year of his contract.
00:06:27Mandron goes down.
00:06:31Referee, Don Robertson, says free kick.
00:06:34And this is in a pretty good area for St. Mirren.
00:06:37It's teased in.
00:06:42Scales hooks away.
00:06:43Danger still there.
00:06:46Gogic races onto it.
00:06:49O'Hara now.
00:06:50Towards goal.
00:06:52Pushed away by Schmeichel.
00:06:54Mark O'Hara has scored a handful of goals for St. Mirren against Celtic in recent seasons.
00:06:59Three of them here at Celtic Park.
00:07:01And he tests Kasper Schmeichel there.
00:07:12Five minutes left to try and make that happen.
00:07:17Celtic continuing to build.
00:07:21Ida didn't catch it cleanly.
00:07:23And it almost seemed to trundle its way towards the Saints stopper, Shemal George.
00:07:32It's a little high for Ida, so he had to take it on the chest.
00:07:38Carter Vickers for Johnston.
00:07:41More space on the right side now.
00:07:46Yang scanning.
00:07:47Gregor shifts for Tierney.
00:07:56Maeda again.
00:07:58Drills over.
00:07:59It's Negrin.
00:08:00Oh, and somehow it stays out.
00:08:02Another chance taken by George.
00:08:05And Benjamin Negrin cannot believe he doesn't have a first Celtic goal on his competitive debut.
00:08:12It's a strong stop from George.
00:08:18And somehow the ball spins up onto the crossbar.
00:08:22Stays out.
00:08:28Ida holds.
00:08:33This ball falls.
00:08:35McGregor goes for it.
00:08:37King clears.
00:08:38Johnston picks up.
00:08:44Now Negrin.
00:08:45Crossing over the head of Ida.
00:08:49Another save for Shemal George to make.
00:08:52Would have been a question of offside.
00:08:56And Dyson Maeda coming back into play.
00:09:01Hatate.
00:09:04Negrin left for Maeda.
00:09:06But still no way through.
00:09:13And could the buddies pounce on the counter?
00:09:16It's Iunga.
00:09:17Onto the right foot.
00:09:19It's comfortable for Schmeichel.
00:09:23Oh, that St. Mirren attack sparks Celtic into life in the second half.
00:09:26Hatate.
00:09:37Hatate.
00:09:38Room to manoeuvre.
00:09:40Goes for goal.
00:09:41The deflection.
00:09:42Off the post.
00:09:43And again.
00:09:46The last touch off Marcus Fraser.
00:09:49And Shemal George just smiles.
00:09:51I'm not sure many would be at camp.
00:09:54But he knows how lucky that was.
00:10:01George punches away.
00:10:02Hatate.
00:10:07Claims of handball.
00:10:09Waved away by the referee.
00:10:10Celtic support.
00:10:13Wanted.
00:10:14A penalty here.
00:10:16King.
00:10:17John.
00:10:20Just couldn't take the ball with him.
00:10:22And now there's a chance for Celtic to counter.
00:10:25Forrest.
00:10:26Has a look at the supporting options.
00:10:29Maeda ahead.
00:10:30James Forrest continues.
00:10:36Marco Harra will try to tidy up.
00:10:38And now McGregor.
00:10:42And just look at what that means to cover McGregor.
00:10:46Celtic break the deadlock.
00:10:50Forrest carrying the ball all the way up the pitch.
00:10:54And it's just a bit too relaxed from St. Mirren.
00:10:57McGregor pounces.
00:10:59Takes the bounce.
00:11:02And strikes the ball away from Shemal George.
00:11:06Who have no chance of stopping that one.
00:11:13But will the goal stand?
00:11:17Will those feelings change?
00:11:23No goal.
00:11:24Sounds around Celtic Park.
00:11:26And the VAR picking up on the handball.
00:11:34McGregor.
00:11:37Scales.
00:11:40Delivers.
00:11:40Ida.
00:11:41Oh, and he hits the post.
00:11:43And it's the fourth time Celtic have seen the ball come off of Shemal George's woodwork.
00:11:52Is this starting to feel like one of those days for Celtic?
00:11:56This is Johnston.
00:12:04This is Johnston.
00:12:06Now Forrest.
00:12:07McEwen, the ball didn't get to him
00:12:14Trusty sliding, scales crossing
00:12:18It's there, and it's smashed high and wide by James Forrest
00:12:23And he can't repeat his heroics from the final day last season
00:12:30You can see Alex Gogic there, alert
00:12:33He's trying to lead
00:12:36In the back line
00:12:40What would be a huge
00:12:44First point for St Mirren
00:12:50That was for Maida
00:12:54Steps for McEwen
00:13:00It's Luke McEwen
00:13:03Celtic find the opener
00:13:06It's more late pain for the buddies
00:13:12But late celebration for Luke McEwen and Celtic
00:13:18And there is a massive sigh of relief around Celtic Park
00:13:23It's not too dissimilar to the goal, McGregor had disallowed a deflection and it bounces into that bottom right corner
00:13:37George can only watch
00:13:39St Mirren hearts sink
00:13:43St Mirren hearts sink
00:13:45Smith
00:13:47Shows too much
00:13:49And now Celtic
00:13:51And now Celtic
00:13:52Look to counter
00:13:53It's Dyson Maida
00:13:55Can he seal it?
00:13:57Brilliant tracking back from Sobole
00:13:59From Sobole
00:14:01Maida racing through
00:14:03From a pinpoint pass
00:14:05Doggage
00:14:07Doggage couldn't get there
00:14:09Look at that block
00:14:17A season opening stunner
00:14:19Between Celtic and St Mirren
00:14:21Falling on from late final day drama last season
00:14:25The same was required again
00:14:27It was Luke McEwen the super sub this time
00:14:31It finishes at Celtic Park
00:14:33Celtic 1 St Mirren 0
00:14:37I was very pleased with the performance
00:14:39Naturally we were greedy
00:14:41We wanted to score more goals
00:14:43But I think we played their system really well
00:14:47I think Stephens teams are so well organised
00:14:49And they're fit and they're strong
00:14:51And they make it difficult for you
00:14:53But I think that the goalkeeper has maybe kept the scoreline down
00:14:59And whilst we didn't score we didn't get disappointed
00:15:03And we played some fantastic football
00:15:05Fantastic football
00:15:07So that's really pleasing
00:15:08It's a tough game
00:15:09Emotional day, flag day
00:15:11Everything we've done before lives in the history
00:15:14And now it's today
00:15:15And starting off how we mean to go on
00:15:17And I thought it was a really good performance
00:15:19And an excellent win
00:15:20A deflected goal so late on in the game is frustrating
00:15:23We're disappointed in the jeans room
00:15:26But also know the levels that we've shown as well
00:15:29We've said whatever happens with the result
00:15:31Show what we are with St Mirren
00:15:33We worked all week on the five or six opportunities to counter
00:15:38And we didn't quite make the passes
00:15:40And we had a couple of half opportunities that we maybe didn't take
00:15:42But I can't ask for much more in terms of work ethic organisation
00:15:46We will show more quality in the final third of the games
00:15:49We have a lot more possession of the ball
00:15:51Which we've shown in the pre-season cup games
00:15:53So yeah, look, we're proud of the boys but disappointed
00:15:56Which maybe shows how far we've actually come
00:15:59The champions Celtic eventually get the job done
00:16:02We'll get to their performance in just a minute
00:16:04But huge credit has to go to St Mirren as well
00:16:07Charlie, how impressed were you by just how organised they were
00:16:10They stifled Celtic for a huge part of this match
00:16:13Yeah, Steve Robinson talks here about organisation
00:16:16And if we look at them here that's a prime example of it
00:16:19They play a back five with three centre backs
00:16:21Organisation means the spaces between them
00:16:23And how they don't let Celtic through
00:16:25But also they press when the time's right
00:16:27So when it's in Celtic's final third
00:16:29And the time's right to go
00:16:30Which all the players will sense and know
00:16:32When one player goes they all seem to go here
00:16:34They're not just sitting back in their own half
00:16:36They're pushing up high
00:16:37And they've got that organisation right
00:16:39And they've got that right
00:16:41Lots of times in the game
00:16:43A lot to like about them today, Michael, once again
00:16:46The thing about St Mirren is
00:16:49You know, Stephen Robinson's saying it there
00:16:51In terms of, you know, we show who we are
00:16:53We're St Mirren
00:16:54And in a way you've come to expect
00:16:59And you know what you're getting from
00:17:01From Stephen Robinson's side
00:17:03Absolutely
00:17:04Very competitive, very well organised
00:17:06And as Charlie's shown there
00:17:07You know, in a defensive shape
00:17:09There are very few spaces to exploit
00:17:12Which means it is so important
00:17:13That you play with that speed and intensity
00:17:15But then also the flip side is
00:17:16That they're not playing the whole game
00:17:18Camped on the edge of their box
00:17:20They are when they want to
00:17:22Able to get up the park and pressurise as well
00:17:24But the big key thing to that is that
00:17:26When the front players are going
00:17:27As Charlie's mentioned there
00:17:28Everyone's up behind them
00:17:29The whole team works in unison
00:17:31Which tells you they're a very well organised
00:17:33And drilled team
00:17:34It was impressive, almost as impressive
00:17:36As Charlie Mulgrew turning into Nostradamus
00:17:38At the start of the second half
00:17:39And predicting that Luke McEllen would score
00:17:41The winning goal in this match, Charlie
00:17:43How did you do it?
00:17:44I scored a big season for him
00:17:46I just feel it's a good end to last season
00:17:51He's had a good pre-season
00:17:53And here when you look
00:17:54Celtic have managed to shift him
00:17:55He holds his position really well
00:17:57Gets a yard in the edge of the box
00:17:58Still a lot of defenders in there
00:18:00In the edge of the box
00:18:01But still manages to get a finish
00:18:02Are we?
00:18:03I just think it's good play for Celtic here
00:18:05They know it's coming late in the game
00:18:07They know St Mirren are tired
00:18:08They need to move the ball quick side to side
00:18:09They managed to get it to McEwen
00:18:10And he
00:18:11It's a great finish
00:18:12It's a bit of a signal for St Mirren
00:18:14Obviously Michael
00:18:15But Celtic had obviously hit the woodwork
00:18:16Plenty of things
00:18:17Yeah they did
00:18:18But I mean look
00:18:19That is
00:18:20Stephen Romeson sums it up
00:18:21In terms of
00:18:22Of course it's disappointing
00:18:23That they don't get anything from the game
00:18:24Because they put a lot into it
00:18:25They made it very difficult for Celtic
00:18:27And challenged them a lot there this afternoon
00:18:29But that goal
00:18:30Is a perfect example of how difficult it can be
00:18:33At Celtic Park
00:18:34As much as St Mirren did limit them
00:18:36It takes such effort
00:18:38Physically and mentally
00:18:39To be on point
00:18:40And concentrating all the time
00:18:42And that goal
00:18:43You could argue
00:18:44You know
00:18:45Marco Harris maybe a yard out
00:18:47If he's a yard further across
00:18:48And doesn't get dragged
00:18:49As Charlie was showing
00:18:50The teams over here
00:18:51The ball moves and they shift
00:18:52If he holds his position by probably a yard
00:18:54He may well have blocked
00:18:56You know Luke McCown
00:18:57Rather than just getting there in a deflection
00:19:00But I mean you can't criticise them
00:19:02Because it's 80 odd minutes in the game
00:19:0380 odd minutes in the game
00:19:04They're shattered
00:19:05Yeah
00:19:06And it's also very good play from Luke McCown
00:19:07Because it's just the recognition of
00:19:09Rather than drifting
00:19:10Hold your position
00:19:11Know where the space is
00:19:12And the ball will come to them
00:19:14Nobody loves a handball debate more than you
00:19:16Yeah, love it
00:19:17But surely no debate over
00:19:19Callum McGregor's disallowed effort
00:19:21It was a shame for him
00:19:22Because it was a fantastic strike
00:19:23But by the letter of the law?
00:19:24Yeah, by the letter of the law
00:19:26It's not a goal
00:19:28I mean you can argue whether
00:19:31You know the law should allow something like that
00:19:34In terms of whether
00:19:35His arm's not in an unnatural position
00:19:37It's right down by his side
00:19:38But the letter of the law
00:19:40Yep, the goal has got to be disallowed
00:19:43There's nothing that the referee
00:19:45Don Robertson can do there in VAR
00:19:47They have to disallow it
00:19:48Which is a shame in regards to
00:19:50It's a wonderful goal
00:19:51But it was definitely the right call
00:19:53Yeah, intent
00:19:54Not part of it when the ball ends up
00:19:55In the back of the net
00:19:56Disappointing for
00:19:57Callum McGregor and Seldick
00:19:58But
00:19:59He could have made the margin of victory
00:20:01Even greater right at the end as well Charlie
00:20:03Dyson Maeda through on goal
00:20:05But what a fantastic saving challenge here
00:20:07From Tunmisi Sobawala
00:20:08Fantastic play
00:20:09Yeah, it's something they're now pushing on
00:20:11To try and
00:20:12Try and get the goal
00:20:13Getting numbers forward
00:20:14And then
00:20:15They leave Maeda
00:20:16Kind of
00:20:17On that half way line
00:20:18Nearing enough 1v1
00:20:19And Gogic is never going to catch him
00:20:20It's an absolute great ball
00:20:22Break away
00:20:23But what a challenge this is
00:20:24This is
00:20:25This is unbelievable speed
00:20:26To get back and catch
00:20:27The one guy
00:20:28They want to be chasing back
00:20:29But a 10 yard head starts Maeda
00:20:30But
00:20:31It's ridiculous
00:20:32What a challenge
00:20:33You know, you're talking about
00:20:34Gogic isn't catching him
00:20:35He's about 10 yards closer to him as well
00:20:36Yeah
00:20:37Incredible
00:20:38Recovery
00:20:39Unfortunately, obviously
00:20:40It ends up not counting for anything though
00:20:42I think it sums up
00:20:43A Steve Robinson team actually
00:20:44That tackle in the last minute
00:20:45Being 1-0 down at Selly Park
00:20:46That desire to get back is brilliant
00:20:48Absolutely
00:20:49Brendan Rodgers, Charlie
00:20:51During the week
00:20:52Talking about how
00:20:53You probably want to bring in
00:20:54More signings
00:20:55More quality signings as well
00:20:57Most managers would say that
00:20:59But Brendan Rodgers has made a point of saying that
00:21:00Obviously
00:21:01Where exactly do you feel Celtic need to strengthen?
00:21:07I don't think there's any doubt about it
00:21:08I think today kind of highlights the fact that
00:21:11They need a striker
00:21:12And they need wingers
00:21:14Or they need two wingers at least
00:21:16Because then you can move Maeda up front
00:21:18To be with Ida or instead of Ida
00:21:22You've got then options up there
00:21:23But you definitely need wingers that are going to impact the game
00:21:26James Forrest has come on today and impacted the game
00:21:29But he's not going to play 50, 60 games in a season
00:21:31You need wingers that
00:21:32Jota's injured obviously
00:21:33He's not back to the next year
00:21:35So you're going to
00:21:36Near the end of the year
00:21:37So you're going to need wingers that have goal contributions
00:21:39Brendan Rodgers has said in the past
00:21:41He likes wingers that can score goals
00:21:43And assists
00:21:44If you look at obviously Keogel going in January
00:21:46Yeah
00:21:47And they weren't able to replace
00:21:49But they had brought Jota in
00:21:50And we saw the second half of last season
00:21:52Maeda going through the middle more as Charlie's talking about there
00:21:55You look at the dynamics of the team now
00:21:57With Jota being injured
00:21:58Kunz gone
00:21:59There's no question that front line is not as strong as it was
00:22:02So the expectation was in January particularly
00:22:05That they would sign a centre forward
00:22:08They would go and get that main focal point
00:22:10And up until this point obviously they haven't done that
00:22:12So I think without question Brendan Rodgers will be
00:22:15You know quite firm and straight with the board
00:22:17We need a centre forward
00:22:19And we need a few wingers
00:22:20Despite all that Michael
00:22:21Are you convinced Celtic will win the title this season?
00:22:23I would be astonished if they weren't
00:22:25You know the league champions
00:22:27Yeah definitely
00:22:28I think that for Rangers
00:22:30There's a huge amount of work that needs to be done there
00:22:32As much as Celtic need to perhaps strengthen these areas
00:22:36It's more with an eye towards being able to go and challenge
00:22:38In that Champions League format
00:22:39That they did so well in last season
00:22:41But domestically yeah I would be astonished
00:22:44If they weren't the league champions at the end of the season
00:22:47Charlie for St Murren
00:22:49Do you feel that top six is a realistic aspiration once again?
00:22:53Definitely
00:22:54Steve Robinson has done a great job
00:22:55Year after year he turns over players
00:22:57But he's got a very consistent style of play
00:22:59The way he plays with the back five
00:23:00The three midfielders and the two strikers
00:23:02And the most impressive thing is
00:23:04For me we looked at
00:23:05Is they know when to sit in a shape
00:23:06Be hard to beat
00:23:07And they know when to press a team
00:23:08They've got real athleticism in the team
00:23:10Three centre backs are really sturdy and solid
00:23:12Marcus Fraser I think is a great player
00:23:14A great player to have on your team
00:23:16And somebody that knows how to defend the box well
00:23:18They do that really well
00:23:19They defend the box well
00:23:20They do important things well
00:23:21Set pieces are always a threat
00:23:23And on the break
00:23:24When you've got legs and power like that
00:23:26Yeah I think they'll do well this year
00:23:28Comfortably top six
00:23:29Ok let's move on
00:23:30Successful midweek of European action
00:23:33For Dundee United
00:23:34Today they would welcome Falkirk back to the top flight
00:23:37They hadn't been there in 15 years
00:23:39But what a season last season was for John McGlynn's side
00:23:56They've waited a long time
00:24:09And in 2025
00:24:11They are championship champions once again
00:24:17It is a momentous day for Volker
00:24:20Back in the top flight
00:24:22After such a long time away
00:24:25In front of a packed Falkirk stadium
00:24:28Three, two, one
00:24:30And that championship flag hoisted
00:24:34To commemorate
00:24:36An incredible victory
00:24:38And now Falkirk back in the big time
00:24:40Scott Bain gets the nod in front of Nicky Hogarth
00:24:42And goal, likewise Brian Graham
00:24:44Up front ahead of Ross McKeever
00:24:46The only other player not involved in the championship win
00:24:49Is Lewis Nielsen
00:24:50As for Dundee United
00:24:52A couple of changes from Thursday night
00:24:54As Isaac Papo and Max Waters come in for Ferry
00:24:57And Trapanovsky
00:24:59They are very much in contrast to Falkirk
00:25:01Only Craig Sibold and Vicko Chevelli
00:25:03Part of last season's team
00:25:05And Falkirk have started on the front foot
00:25:10As much as they finished last season
00:25:13And some neat play
00:25:16Takes the ball out to Leon McCann
00:25:18A crossing opportunity, Brian Graham wasn't far away
00:25:20From making contact
00:25:21It comes to Calvin Miller
00:25:22Into Scott Arfield
00:25:24Just couldn't get it under control
00:25:27To get the shot off
00:25:28A good start from John McGlynn's side
00:25:31As Brian Graham was only inches away
00:25:34From a first Premiership goal of the campaign
00:25:37Jim Goodwin's side successfully navigating
00:25:43The first European hurdle
00:25:45McCann finds room for the cross
00:25:49Oh, that's Miller at the back post
00:25:51Just couldn't hit the target
00:25:55Brilliant cross from McCann
00:25:57Might just take a slight nick before it gets to Miller
00:26:01Yeah, slight touch
00:26:02And that probably prevents Miller from scoring
00:26:04It goes down as a really good defensive header from Yovu in the end
00:26:08Falkirk come again, Ethan Ross just overruns it
00:26:15Spencer picks up once more
00:26:18Slightly loose with the pass though
00:26:20And it's going to be picked up by Camerat
00:26:23Down the right flank he goes
00:26:26He's got Waters in the middle
00:26:28It's a team header in the end
00:26:30From the striker
00:26:31It was put on a plate for him
00:26:34But he couldn't generate the power
00:26:36To test Scott Bain
00:26:38Kuchurenko
00:26:46The Ukrainian launches it long
00:26:48Waters will give chase
00:26:50And he'll go for goal
00:26:51Sight netting only
00:26:53Looking to get his eye in
00:26:57And it's well won
00:26:59In the first instance
00:27:01By Sapsford
00:27:03But Waters just unable to test Bain
00:27:11United certainly have come more into the contest
00:27:13As the first half has worn on
00:27:15As Camerat sends it out to the right-hand side
00:27:23Here's S-Link
00:27:25S-Link
00:27:28Clipped forward for the run of Craig Sibold
00:27:29And that is a good purposeful run from the former Falkirk man
00:27:33Now can he pick out a team-mate
00:27:35In the middle, just flashes it across
00:27:37Waters, hammers it home
00:27:39There's the opener
00:27:40And what a finish it is
00:27:42From Max Waters
00:27:44On his first WD United start
00:27:47He has his first WD United goal
00:27:49It's all about the run here
00:27:52From Sibold
00:27:53He's got the composure to try and pick out a man
00:27:57And although he was unable to do so
00:27:59It fell kindly for Waters
00:28:00And boy did he make the most of it
00:28:03Hamming it beyond the helpless Bain
00:28:05And United in front
00:28:07Just ahead of half-time
00:28:15And Falkirk respond before the interval
00:28:19I've had plenty of the ball in the attacking third
00:28:21Just lacked a cutting edge
00:28:23As Graeme goes down and invites a free kick
00:28:28And Falkirk will get the opportunity
00:28:30To put the ball in the box here
00:28:32It's Spencer
00:28:34Curling it in low
00:28:35Graeme
00:28:37Backpedaling
00:28:38He just can't turn and get the shot off
00:28:40And Kucherenko has grabbed it
00:28:45Chevely and Tate coming together in the box
00:28:47But Graeme just couldn't get the shot away
00:28:49And the danger over
00:28:57Not sure how much Kucherenko knew about that
00:28:59Until the last minute
00:29:00It's Henderson
00:29:09It's Henderson
00:29:14It's not the best of clearances from Esselink
00:29:19Graeme back for Arfield
00:29:20Just screws the shot wide
00:29:22It's a half-chance for the returning hero
00:29:41United looking to grab a second at the start of this
00:29:45Second period
00:29:48And there's going to be a yellow card here
00:29:50For Sapsford
00:29:51That's not the first time he's hit the deck under very little contact
00:29:55And John Beaton's had enough
00:29:57And shows him the yellow card
00:30:01Liam Henderson in close attendance but
00:30:03Didn't seem to be a foul there
00:30:05And although it's been checked by VAR
00:30:08There will be no change of opinion
00:30:10And although it's been checked by VAR
00:30:12There will be no change of opinion
00:30:14It's been a really good tussle this so far
00:30:20I hope they're still well in it
00:30:26Nielsen into the feet of Tate
00:30:28He's able to lift the head
00:30:29That looks like a beautifully measured ball for Adams
00:30:33And the slip might help him out as well
00:30:34Now can he pick out a team mate in the middle
00:30:36Might come for Spencer
00:30:37Back there
00:30:38Dylan Tate to finish it off
00:30:39And there's the leveller
00:30:40He's starting to move
00:30:41And he's finishing in some style
00:30:43And you cannot argue for good value for that leveller
00:30:46Good walk from Adams
00:30:47The slip from Querestes
00:30:48And the slip from Querestes
00:30:49The slip from Querestes
00:30:50It certainly didn't do him any harm
00:30:51And Dylan Tate smashing it beyond
00:30:53And he's finishing in some style.
00:30:58And you cannot argue Falkirk are not good value for that leveller.
00:31:04Good work from Adams.
00:31:08The slip from Kereshnege, certainly didn't do him any harm.
00:31:13But Dylan Tate smashing it beyond Kucherenko.
00:31:19Ah, Dylan Tate sets the Falkirk stadium alight.
00:31:23It's fifth goal of the season already.
00:31:31It's been end-to-end, pretty much throughout.
00:31:43Sapsford holding it up.
00:31:47Looking to get it back, and gets the shot away, but just drags it slightly wide.
00:31:53Decent link-up, this United front two.
00:32:03Lewis Nielsen.
00:32:07Finds Miller to drive at Kereshtes.
00:32:11Kereshtes.
00:32:14Ross, Ross McKeever, can he work the opening, he can't, oh, it's just wide.
00:32:21I thought that was going to find the bottom corner, and I think he might too.
00:32:27As well, to find half a yard here to get the shot away, he just drags it.
00:32:30Paul- tapa, on a number of occasions picks up the loose ball.
00:32:32And gets the pass-off here.
00:32:36And there's an opportunity!
00:32:38Eslink, Kamaraz, he's done, on a number of occasions he picks up the loose ball,
00:32:46and gets the pass-off here, and there's an opportunity!
00:32:51And it's taken by Ivan Dolcic to bring United back in front!
00:32:56The visitors have got their noses ahead once more, looks onside, Kamaraz pass, inch perfect,
00:33:17and Dolcic does the rest at Baines near post, he gets the better of Nielsen, and it's a tidy finish.
00:33:25His first goal in United Colours.
00:33:37Falker will find themselves trailing once more, having given plenty to the game.
00:33:42That's good work from McKeever.
00:33:45Miller's lay-off isn't the best, but Taits gets it out to Adams,
00:33:51back into the middle it comes with Ross, it's taken a big deflection and in!
00:33:55Falker went behind for Rock!
00:33:59Ethan Ross with the aim of a wicked deflection as far as United are concerned.
00:34:09Oh, it's so unlucky for Chevelle, knew very little about it, and Kucharenko completely wrong-footed as a result.
00:34:21But Ethan Ross and Falker won't care.
00:34:25Oh, they're only ahead for a couple of minutes there, Jim Goodwin's side, and he'll rue that.
00:34:31Kerestez gets it clear.
00:34:35Camera, who's been impressive in the midfield, brings it forward.
00:34:41Both sides will feel they can win this late on.
00:34:47It's Dolcic looking to take on McCann, slip, and McCann able to recover.
00:34:59Looks like it might just open up for Dolcic there.
00:35:05Doation sends it to the back post, Sapsford is there.
00:35:09Blocked by a combination of Spencer and Adams.
00:35:16Falkert work it clear up to McKeever.
00:35:19He's had it pinched from him, though, Sybil goes for it from distance.
00:35:23Comfortable take, I think, for Bain.
00:35:25He's moving a little bit in the air here from a former Falkert youth product.
00:35:31But Bain saw it all the way.
00:35:33John McGlynn's side might have one more opportunity to claim all three points.
00:35:41Comes all the way to the back post, it's Nesbitt!
00:35:44Oh, he didn't get a hold of it.
00:35:46And there's the full-time whistle.
00:35:48That could have been the moment for Falkert and Aidan Nesbitt,
00:35:52but John McGlynn and his side on the return to the top flight
00:35:56have come back twice from being a go-down to claim a point.
00:36:01against the season before's championship winners.
00:36:05Falkert two, then United two.
00:36:10We're certainly entertained, you know.
00:36:11We did it for the last three seasons, and hopefully we can continue that.
00:36:16Certainly the fans that are here today and watching on the television, I'm sure,
00:36:20will entertain four goals and plenty more other opportunities to get more goals.
00:36:25But I couldn't ask much more of the players who put everybody effort into it.
00:36:29We've got to take a lot of belief in that. The mentality was great.
00:36:33We've bounced back twice in the game.
00:36:36A lot of players have come from League One through the championship
00:36:39and now playing Premiership football.
00:36:41And we'll only benefit from that.
00:36:44I think if I was, you know, sitting in my living room on the couch watching the game,
00:36:48I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed it.
00:36:49I thought it was a really entertaining game.
00:36:51But, you know, when I analyse it back, I think over the whole piece,
00:36:56a draw was probably a fair outcome based on, you know, chances created from both teams
00:37:00and, you know, possession stats are pretty even.
00:37:02So, you know, most weekends away from home, you know, you're pleased with a point.
00:37:08Obviously, today we came here to try and win the game.
00:37:11Unfortunately, that wasn't to be.
00:37:12We will learn from certain aspects of the game, as you always do.
00:37:15Again, repeat myself, I'm very proud of what the players have done
00:37:18and the appreciation of the fans that were here today.
00:37:21Sellout, a good following from Dundee United as well.
00:37:25Wish Dundee United all the very best in the European game coming up.
00:37:28Hope they can get through over the two legs.
00:37:31It was a great game to watch.
00:37:33Fantastic atmosphere as well.
00:37:35Huge excitement, obviously, in Falkirk.
00:37:37I think huge interest as well in terms of just, from everybody,
00:37:40to see how Falkirk will get on this season.
00:37:42And there was a fairytale last season in the Championship, Charlie.
00:37:45It was brilliant to cover.
00:37:46They're up now.
00:37:47Today, how impressed were you?
00:37:49Yeah, well, I've tipped them for top six.
00:37:51Have you?
00:37:52I was interested to see them today.
00:37:54Top six.
00:37:55I was going to say, I'm running out of teams for top six.
00:37:58Aye, but I like the fact they've came through two leagues now,
00:38:03playing the same style of football under John McGlynn.
00:38:05He's very thorough in his approach.
00:38:07And I think a lot of it's come down to attacking football
00:38:10and in-possession football the way they play the game.
00:38:12Keelan Adams up and down the right-hand side,
00:38:14a huge player for them.
00:38:15Today, he proved he's worth it.
00:38:17He's crosses in the box.
00:38:19He puts this one across, gets down the right-hand side.
00:38:21He's got great legs.
00:38:22He can get up and down and really affect the game in both boxes.
00:38:26And he's put a great ball in the box here.
00:38:28Great touch for Brad Spencer.
00:38:29It's a great finish.
00:38:31It's a great finish.
00:38:32You know, I think John McGlynn sums it up perfectly in terms of,
00:38:35you know, he's very proud of his players.
00:38:37And it's a core of a team that have come for League One.
00:38:42And pretty much exclusively, you know, it's Scots that are in the team.
00:38:47And I don't, you know, apologize for one second for, you know, backing that to the Hilt.
00:38:54I think it's to be applauded.
00:38:56And I think John McGlynn's, you know, way that he's approached the game should be applauded as well.
00:39:01You know, just look at this goal again, though, from Dungeon Age perspective.
00:39:04Jovo originally, he's not strong enough.
00:39:06Sapsford equally not strong enough.
00:39:08Kereshteh is coming out here.
00:39:09He's not impacting it.
00:39:10And when the ball comes in here again, there's too many defenders that are just ball watching.
00:39:14I mean, Jim Goodwin will be furious at that goal that they've conceded there.
00:39:18But he'll be far more happy with how that game set up and played out than the European ties.
00:39:25Because Dungeon Age looked a lot better today.
00:39:27They had a better shape about them.
00:39:29You know, they were playing primarily more of a back four.
00:39:32Whereas previously they've been playing this back three that looked a little bit clunky.
00:39:36They looked a bit more comfortable with how they played there today.
00:39:40But yeah, as I go back to just my, you know, comments about Falkirk,
00:39:43I think it's a wonderful story that we've seen play out.
00:39:47And I hope that they do well this season.
00:39:50And hopefully they're able to maintain their top flight status.
00:39:53Dundee United, will they make the top six, Charlie?
00:39:55They'll make the top six, yeah.
00:39:56There's a half team in the top six.
00:39:58How many teams do I get left?
00:40:00I wonder who's going to miss out at this stage.
00:40:02But not so many Scots, obviously, in the Dundee United squad.
00:40:07That's been well documented.
00:40:08But today, they were on the back foot for a large part of the first half.
00:40:12But eventually they would take the lead twice in this match.
00:40:15They do possess plenty of attacking options.
00:40:18Well, if we look at it here, Dundee United don't really score a lot of goals.
00:40:21They proved that kind of last year.
00:40:22The way they play is more than not to concede.
00:40:24And it just shows Falkirk.
00:40:26The one thing Falkirk will need to work on a lot this year is a defensive play.
00:40:30It's a simple ball down the channel here.
00:40:33And you see the distance between Keelan Adams, the right back, and the centre half there,
00:40:37the right centre half, Lewis Nielsen.
00:40:39He's got to get closer there.
00:40:42As a centre back, you've got to, there's Brad Spence looking across to see where centre back is.
00:40:46So he doesn't need to match the run into the channel.
00:40:48Yeah.
00:40:49He should be getting across being a lot closer and moving as a unit with the back four.
00:40:53When the right back moves, you need to move across.
00:40:55And he's getting back to protect the front post and he doesn't do that either.
00:40:58I think Lewis Nielsen will be disappointed with how he defended that there.
00:41:01This is another one of these instances where just the gaps between the centre half and the fullback.
00:41:05But Keelan Adams here, he has to recognise he needs to narrow off and deepen
00:41:10because the last thing you can allow as a fullback is for that ball to get played on the inside.
00:41:15Because as soon as he's played on the inside, you're out of the game.
00:41:18But as soon as that's played, Lewis Nielsen has to start drifting across to engage Dolchik.
00:41:23Instead, if you watch it, he's static and he awaits the Dungeon 80 player to come across to him.
00:41:30At that point, that's too close to the goals.
00:41:32That's a lottery at that point.
00:41:33A bit of fortune there, obviously.
00:41:34Yeah, it is a bit of fortune.
00:41:35But if Lewis Nielsen steps across and engages with Dolchik,
00:41:39then perhaps he's making the challenge five yards out from goal,
00:41:43a way further away from goal.
00:41:44I think even when your right back makes that decision to go tight,
00:41:46even if it's a bad decision, a centre back, you need to get closer
00:41:49to then you need to cover your mate and get closer to the winger as he comes inside,
00:41:53further away from your goal, and then you defend the situation.
00:41:55Lewis Nielsen's not strong enough there.
00:41:57I know we say, look, he's got to be stronger.
00:41:59Bit of inexperience for the right back?
00:42:01Maybe a bit of inexperience.
00:42:03I mean, no long ago he was playing for Cumberland Old Colts,
00:42:06so it's a great spot for John McLinty to bring him in.
00:42:08He's done brilliant.
00:42:09He's going to be a great player for Falkirk.
00:42:11I think we focus on his positives and what he's done going forward,
00:42:14and defensively I think he'll be fine.
00:42:16Let's talk about Falkirk and just how impressive they've been.
00:42:21We've watched them a lot, obviously last season, especially in the Championship.
00:42:25Charlie, they've got a great style of football.
00:42:27How much do you think they'll have to adapt their style of football in the top flight?
00:42:31I don't think they need to adapt.
00:42:32I just think they need to be better defensively in certain situations.
00:42:36I mean, some of the crosses and some of the attacks they had today were brilliant.
00:42:39I think they need to maintain that.
00:42:41It's really impressive how they've come up two leagues with a lot of Scottish players.
00:42:44It just shows you when you stick to the way you see the game and you're strong in that
00:42:50and you hammer it home to your players.
00:42:52The players respond to it and it gets you two promotions now.
00:42:55They're in the Premiership.
00:42:56I think it's going to be really interesting to see how they do.
00:42:59I really want them to do well.
00:43:00I think they'll do well.
00:43:01They're one of the 12 teams I'm getting in the top six.
00:43:05I think they'll do great.
00:43:07But just defensively, I just think they need to tidy up the wee things we spoke about.
00:43:11Lewis Nielsen will be disappointed with the bits today.
00:43:15And if they can tidy the wee bits up, it's going to be a really good watch.
00:43:18That's the key, defensive.
00:43:20Because all the other side of it, it's blown away any myths about in terms of,
00:43:24you know, you need to play a certain style or you can't play this style.
00:43:27We saw it with Motherwell yesterday as well.
00:43:29When you've got a coach and a manager that is clearing his instructions and his ideas
00:43:33and he finds the right players to play that system,
00:43:36then there's no reason why you cannot continue to do that.
00:43:39But you've got to be defensively sound as well.
00:43:42How highly do you rate Dundon United's chances against Rapid Vienna?
00:43:46Well, that was certainly better today.
00:43:48And I think that, you know, Jim Goodwin will be going into that tie,
00:43:51feeling a fair bit better about it.
00:43:53Hopefully, obviously, the first leg away from home,
00:43:55they can just make sure that they're still in the tie,
00:43:57taking it back to Tanadice.
00:43:58But look, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be competitive
00:44:01and make sure, as I said, that that game, when it comes back to Tanadice,
00:44:04that they're still well and truly in it.
00:44:06And fingers crossed they can do that
00:44:08and they can potentially get through to the next round.
00:44:10Let's hope so.
00:44:11OK.
00:44:12It had been a difficult League Cup group stage
00:44:15for new Dundee manager Steven Presley.
00:44:17His first league match today in charge against the Hebside,
00:44:21who finished third last season
00:44:22but suffered European heartache midweek.
00:44:25Jorosorio, central area, 30 yards from him.
00:44:32Goal! What a goal!
00:44:33Oh, what a hit that is!
00:44:35Tries to get it onto his left foot.
00:44:37Abdosko, it comes, it's in!
00:44:38Massini!
00:44:41Mbappu sends it back in.
00:44:42Over it!
00:44:43Oh, it's an incredible goal!
00:44:45Oh, the stunning Michelin have won it!
00:44:51Can Hebs get over their European heartache?
00:44:54Can Dundee bounce back from their dismal showing
00:44:56in the Premier Sports Cup?
00:44:58Both teams with something to prove then,
00:45:01although the visitors are still the heavy, heavy favourites.
00:45:04Steven Presley said pre-match,
00:45:06his team are nowhere near ready.
00:45:11Well, Simon Murray is missing up front with a knee injury.
00:45:14There's five changes from the win over Montrose.
00:45:16Ethan Ingram, Ryan Astley, Paul Digby, Ashley Hay
00:45:19and Finn Robertson are all in from the start.
00:45:24Hibbs make just one change from the dramatic late loss to Michelin.
00:45:28Perhaps a surprise, there are not more,
00:45:30given the game lasted 120 minutes.
00:45:32Veteran forward Junior Hoylett replaces Jamie McGrath,
00:45:35who's named on the bench.
00:45:39And a return to the Scottish Premiership for Steven Presley,
00:45:42the first time he's managed in this competition in 15 years.
00:45:50It's Hibbs who get us underway in the Dundee sunshine.
00:45:52Plenty expected of them this season after such a fantastic showing last year.
00:46:00Can they follow it up?
00:46:02A difficult second album for David Gray.
00:46:06Plenty to ponder for Steven Presley, not the start he would have wanted to make to life at Dundee.
00:46:18Arguably already under pressure.
00:46:24Wasn't necessarily a popular appointment in some quarters of the Dundee fan base.
00:46:30He has to try and win those fans back round, how can Dundee start though?
00:46:36It's going to be an early corner, Martin Boyle threatening.
00:46:42As it feels so long ago since he was here.
00:46:47Left Denz Park to go to Easter Road in a swap deal with Alec Harris.
00:46:53No times change.
00:47:00Dundee have frustrated Hibbs so far in their low block.
00:47:03Neither side has even had a shot yet as we approach the half-hour mark.
00:47:10A beat it on the end of that.
00:47:12Poorly cleared by Dundee, there's Bowie!
00:47:18The first shot of the game results in the first goal and it's Kieran Bowie with it.
00:47:28Ended last season with a Scotland cap.
00:47:30He starts this season with a goal.
00:47:34It wasn't the best ball in by a beat-up.
00:47:36But that's comical defending from Dundee, a dreadful clearance.
00:47:40Ingram can't get out of the way.
00:47:42And Bowie snaps it up.
00:47:45A good first touch out of his feet, drilled low into the bottom corner.
00:47:50No chance for John McCracken to react.
00:47:51And it's Hibbs who make the breakthrough.
00:48:00Visiting support now in fine voice.
00:48:03As their side goes, a goal ahead.
00:48:05Martin Boylan behind, nice touch, wins a corner.
00:48:08Although they've only scored the one goal, Hibbs have dominated the first stages of this game.
00:48:26Played low, cut back to Boyle.
00:48:28Blocked away.
00:48:32Game set piece move, not quite coming off there.
00:48:39Walked back to Airedale on a halfway line.
00:48:43Trips out over the top, looking for a beat-up.
00:48:45Good touch, it's blocked, it could come back to Bowie!
00:48:47Two goals in the space of three minutes.
00:48:50Both for Kieran Bowie, both for Hibbs.
00:48:55Well, there's just a hint of offside there.
00:48:57It doesn't actually come to Junior Hoylet.
00:48:59Is he interfering with play? I'm not sure.
00:49:01It's a good touch from a beat-up.
00:49:03And the defender actually takes out the goalkeeper.
00:49:07And it leaves an empty net for Kieran Bowie to just roll the ball home.
00:49:10He's got to pick over that one.
00:49:24Two lapses in concentration, and Dundee are suddenly 2-0 behind.
00:49:29How can they respond? Here's Aqua.
00:49:32Trying to slip the ball in, it almost comes all the way through.
00:49:36Deflecting off Finn Robertson, and through to Jordan Smith.
00:49:40Really the first time he's been called into action.
00:49:44Doesn't go down as a shot.
00:49:49Slip forward.
00:49:51Here's Ingram.
00:49:55Pulls it back to Jones.
00:49:58A nice one-two, and Dundee are in behind.
00:50:01It's a poor cross.
00:50:03Really easy for Jordan Smith to gather.
00:50:06And Dundee have just lacked conviction when on the ball.
00:50:10He's really struggled to keep possession.
00:50:14And Jones fails to pick out a man in blue.
00:50:20Luke Graham, part of Faircourt's winning championship team last season.
00:50:24Promising youngster now at Dundee.
00:50:26Ball forward, looking for Ashley Haye in behind.
00:50:31Iredell should have this covered.
00:50:33He slips, he's into the box.
00:50:35He picks out Robertson!
00:50:382-1.
00:50:40Game on.
00:50:42And Finn Robertson enjoyed that one.
00:50:48Dundee giving a lifeline.
00:50:50A mistake by Hibbs this time at the back.
00:50:56Just that ball into a dangerous area.
00:50:58And Iredell doesn't deal with it at all.
00:51:01Gets the pass wrong and then slips.
00:51:03Plenty of time for Haye to pick out a pass.
00:51:06And Robertson picks out the back of the net.
00:51:09A great finish from the youngster.
00:51:11Dundee hoping he's the latest to make his mark on Denz Park.
00:51:15Can he follow in the footsteps of McCowan, Cameron and Mulligan,
00:51:23who have all moved on to Pasture's Mew.
00:51:31Iredell.
00:51:35Ball just about stays in, Junior Hoylet.
00:51:38Trying to slip it through to Bowie.
00:51:41It drops!
00:51:43And it's way over the bar from Levitt.
00:51:50Always just leaning back a little too much.
00:51:53It would have been something spectacular to score from there.
00:52:00It's not quite the comfortable cushion David Gray would have wanted at half-time.
00:52:03The side certainly deserved the lead.
00:52:11But they won't be too happy with that one-goal advantage.
00:52:16Bowie, good ball out to Jordan Abita.
00:52:19Is it off for Cadden?
00:52:21Levitt lurking.
00:52:23It's blocked, it comes to Bowie.
00:52:25No offside flag yet.
00:52:27Hibbs playing in front of their own fans, looking for that vital next goal.
00:52:31Hoylet whips it low, could drop to Cadden.
00:52:35It's blocked into the air.
00:52:37And McCracken gathers.
00:52:39That ball just never really sat properly for Hibbs.
00:52:42Levitt maybe could have done better.
00:52:44Shirts for Hand, ball in there too.
00:52:46Play goes on.
00:52:52Now comes in.
00:52:54Headed away by Kieran Bowie.
00:52:55Scored two and now doing his defensive duty.
00:52:59The ball comes back in.
00:53:01Oh, it almost sat up for Graham at the back post, but it was always going away from him.
00:53:06You just need that one goal to restore parity.
00:53:12It seems unlikely given the way the game's gone, but that could have been the chance.
00:53:22Bashir.
00:53:24To Ireland.
00:53:26And Dundee have only lost one of the last five Premiership home games to Hibbs, but...
00:53:32They've got a bit of a mountain to climb and now Clark Robertson is in the book.
00:53:37Just dragging Kieran Bowie to the floor.
00:53:40A decent set-piece opportunity here for Hibbs.
00:53:43Good physicality from Bowie, did really well there.
00:53:54And Gronley just on, it's into the wall.
00:53:57He blocks it though, it comes to Bowie.
00:54:00Trying to flip it across, it's another corner.
00:54:06Hibbs pushing for that third goal as Ethan Ingram takes a sore one.
00:54:10McGrath over the ball again.
00:54:20Curled to the back post, there's Campbell!
00:54:23Oh, how's he not scored?
00:54:25John McCracken somehow saves.
00:54:28But Josh Campbell knows he should have done far better there.
00:54:31That should have been the three points.
00:54:34He is completely unmarked throughout that entire corner.
00:54:37No one in blue picking him up.
00:54:40And somehow, from all of four yards out, he fails to score.
00:54:49What must he be thinking from this performance?
00:54:54Only a goal behind, but Dundee have really toiled at times today.
00:54:57It's been one-way traffic, really.
00:55:02A beat-up.
00:55:04Curls it in.
00:55:06Almost came to Chris Cadden at the back post.
00:55:09Demare Samuels puts it behind.
00:55:11A beat-up's done well at the left-hand side.
00:55:16Impressive Nicky Cadden, it's a real battle to see who will be the main left wing back this season.
00:55:21McGraw with the ball in again.
00:55:25There's Bowie lurking, drops to Campbell.
00:55:28McCracken saves with his feet.
00:55:30Another chance for Campbell, the second-half sub.
00:55:34McGraw curling in again.
00:55:37Josh Campbell fancies another go, and it's blocked, and McCracken will gather.
00:55:43Josh Campbell's been a real threat, he's been desperate to score since he came on.
00:55:46Really, not too much work for Joel McCracken in the end.
00:56:00Hebb's starting to tire slightly.
00:56:05But McGraw forces another opportunity, a beat-up!
00:56:09Flashing, I think that was a cross, just over the bar.
00:56:12The hand of apology certainly suggests he was trying to pick out a team-mate, almost picked out the back of the net.
00:56:20It was Boyle making the run at the front post.
00:56:28And there's the full-time whistle from David Dickinson.
00:56:30It's Hibbs who get the first win of the Scottish Premiership season.
00:56:37Stephen Presley is back, and it's another defeat for his side.
00:56:42They go to Rangers next week, it doesn't get easier.
00:56:45The final score at Dens Park. Dundee 1, Hibbs 2.
00:56:48We did some good things defensively.
00:56:54We had a good shape around us.
00:56:59We gave away two disappointing goals at a time where I felt we'd settled into the game quite nicely.
00:57:05But the big frustration was just in possession.
00:57:07We didn't show the belief in possession.
00:57:08We turned the ball over unopposed at times when better choices, we could have found ourselves in better attacking areas.
00:57:17And as a result of that, we had to defend more.
00:57:20And that was the frustration.
00:57:22But only with time and work and some level of continuity we'll get there.
00:57:28Difficult place to come. Three points, first game of the season away from home.
00:57:33Especially after the emotions of Wednesday night, everything that the players put into that.
00:57:37I thought it was a real professional performance.
00:57:39And the mentality and the character of the players was there for everyone to see.
00:57:43Because of everybody we'd be looking at, wondering how Hibbs were going to bounce back and would there be a hangover.
00:57:48But I think they responded in the best possible way, so I can't complain with that.
00:57:52Yeah, a really good win for Hibbs today at Dens Park.
00:57:55Let's talk about Dundee first though.
00:57:58No Simon Murray today, which looked ominous right from the off, Charlie, because he's such an attacking outlet for them.
00:58:05And they have struggled obviously in the League Cup group stage campaign.
00:58:08Yeah.
00:58:10And I guess it was reflected in, they were defensive, very defensive for a lot of this match.
00:58:14Yeah, they were so deep.
00:58:16I mean, there's your two forward players, 40 yards for your own goal.
00:58:20I don't know if Simon Murray would have helped in that scenario, to be honest with you.
00:58:23I mean, he's a miss for the team, but if you're going to be that deep, you've got 70 yards to go.
00:58:29You see Hay here, he's got 70 yards to travel to get to the goal, to have a shot.
00:58:33Yeah.
00:58:34Hence the reason, only one shot in target the whole game.
00:58:36If you look here again, that's how many bodies are within 40 yards of the goal.
00:58:41It's really hard to then spring a counter-attack or get players in forward areas.
00:58:47And Hibbs were clever. The classic foul to prevent a counter-attack.
00:58:52They probably didn't even have to do that, but they did it.
00:58:55And Dundee struggled all day to kind of get out of that block and get up the pitch.
00:58:59Although, I know what he was doing. He was defending his goal.
00:59:03Steven Presley was obviously trying to not concede and potentially get a late goal or a set piece or whatever.
00:59:10But when you concede a goal, you're in trouble.
00:59:12I mean, look at the amount of players here. This is now 20 yards from their own goal.
00:59:16I don't know how you're meant to break away from them.
00:59:18It sort of gives an indication of, I think, where Dundee are at the moment in terms of very apprehensive about expanding the game.
00:59:27And you can see here from the average positions that the two advanced number eights are actually in line with the strikers.
00:59:34And the deep line midfielder number eight is sitting on top of the centre half.
00:59:37You've actually got nobody in the middle of the park there to actually connect the game.
00:59:41And when you do win the ball back, like Charlie was talking about there, and you can see in the pictures,
00:59:46as a midfielder, it is nigh on impossible if the ball lands at your feet to look to build the game.
00:59:53Because anybody that you look to have a pass is either picked up two yards away from you,
00:59:58you've got three Hibs players around you, you've nobed up the park to try and stretch you.
01:00:02It's very, very difficult. But as he mentioned there, Charlie, you can understand what Steven Presley is trying to do.
01:00:07He's trying to be difficult to break down.
01:00:09But I do think sometimes it can be counterproductive.
01:00:13And you can see in some of the clips we're about to show here,
01:00:16sometimes having too many bodies back in those areas, it makes it more complicated and difficult.
01:00:22Now, this is a good example where you see Jones, the wide-sided, or one of the midfielders there.
01:00:28He's having to get dragged across to pick up in this wide area,
01:00:33when Ingram, the right wing back, really should be the one that's out here engaging.
01:00:37Instead, you've got Jones, the midfielder, who's bursting the gut to try and get back in.
01:00:41Now, Ingram, if you keep an eye on him and the position he's got,
01:00:44if he was out closing this down, he wouldn't be here.
01:00:47Getting in the way and ricocheting the ball back into Bowie's path.
01:00:51All of a sudden, too many bodies in the way, causing chaos.
01:00:55And credit to Kieran Bowie, because he's the one that's quickest to react.
01:00:58But there was a few other instances where they actually did have a far better shape about them, Dundee,
01:01:04where they would have Ingram, the full-back, closing out into the wide areas.
01:01:08But this is just another terrible goal to lose.
01:01:11You've highlighted Graham there, the left-sided centre half.
01:01:14He's ball-watching.
01:01:15He's got no recognition of Obita making that run across.
01:01:18And he's in front, you see here, of the rest of the back line.
01:01:22He leaves that huge gap for Obita to run in behind them there.
01:01:25You know, moments like that, that's what kills a team.
01:01:29And obviously, confidence is so low for Dundee at the moment as well,
01:01:32that when you fall 2-0 behind, it's a mountain to climb for them.
01:01:36You can't defend that deep and allow a ball in behind you.
01:01:38Sure. We'll get more to Dundee in a minute.
01:01:40We need to speak about Hibbs as well, because it was a fantastic way for them to bounce back,
01:01:43obviously, from the disappointment against Mitchell and they put in a creditable performance.
01:01:48You can't get a better compare and contrast with Hibbs to what happened.
01:01:52And we went on about it endlessly last season, but I think it's worth pointing out again.
01:01:56Hibbs went to Dens Park today and I think the expectation was that they would win the game.
01:02:00Yeah.
01:02:01And comfortably. And they did.
01:02:03But when you look back to what happened in November last season,
01:02:06when it looked as if David Gray was on the precipice of losing his job.
01:02:10True.
01:02:11And they ended up in the 4-1 drubbing at Dens Park.
01:02:13Compare and contrast to where they are now.
01:02:15They're in such a better position.
01:02:17The team's strong. The squad's advanced.
01:02:20Signings they've made are sensible.
01:02:22The hierarchy of the club is solid.
01:02:24Everything about Hibbs is transformed from, you know, what we're talking about less than a year ago
01:02:29to where they are now.
01:02:30And you've got to applaud that.
01:02:31And you've already got Kieran Bowie penciled into Scotland.
01:02:33He's Scotland's number nine.
01:02:34He's a striker for the next ten years.
01:02:35He is, I'm telling you, for me, come the qualifiers in September,
01:02:38he would be my centre forward for Scotland.
01:02:41This guy's got everything.
01:02:42He's an absolute powerhouse.
01:02:44Good finisher.
01:02:45Two feet.
01:02:46Strong in the air.
01:02:47I think he's an absolute standout.
01:02:49Finn Robertson would get a go for Dundee, Charlie.
01:02:52A saving grace, I suppose.
01:02:54They only had two shots on target the whole match.
01:02:56I take it Dundee aren't making your top six?
01:02:58No.
01:02:59They're missing out in the top six.
01:03:01They're in the bottom six on their own.
01:03:02They're in the bottom six, aye.
01:03:04Hibbs are in the top six though.
01:03:05There's another team in.
01:03:06Another?
01:03:07OK.
01:03:08If it all comes from a mistake,
01:03:09and they'll hear if you see,
01:03:10he gets a touch in the back,
01:03:11but it's not enough to make him go over.
01:03:13Yeah.
01:03:14It's a big mistake,
01:03:15but Dundee get a bit of luck there,
01:03:18and get their only shot on target.
01:03:20How concerned, in all seriousness, are you for Dundee this season?
01:03:25I mean, the season president's talking about
01:03:27he needs half a dozen players still to come in,
01:03:29and the transfer window is open for a few more weeks.
01:03:32Yeah, I think that's clear as day
01:03:33that the manager's come out and been clear on what he needs
01:03:38and how he needs signings and he needs time,
01:03:40and I think you can see that for today.
01:03:41They offered nothing in possession.
01:03:42He said that himself.
01:03:43Out of possession,
01:03:44you could see there was some sort of evidence of a good shape there,
01:03:48and a defensive shape at times.
01:03:49They're going to need to find a way to counter-attack,
01:03:53or when they do get the ball,
01:03:54have some sort of structure in order to get further up the pitch,
01:03:57because you can't defend 20, 30, 40 yards for your goal
01:04:00for long, long periods.
01:04:02We've seen some of them today do it at Celtic,
01:04:04but they've got a plan and they know when to press as a team,
01:04:06and they've got an idea of when they're going to get up the pitch,
01:04:09and you could see that in clear contrast today.
01:04:11Yep, tough day today for Dundee.
01:04:13We don't give you any football for weeks,
01:04:15and suddenly we're giving you an absolute deluge this week.
01:04:19We have Harts vs Aberdeen to round off this Premiership weekend
01:04:23tomorrow night on BBC Radio Scotland,
01:04:25and we'll bring you highlights as well on BBC One Scotland at 10 past 11.
01:04:31And a big week of European football as well,
01:04:34and we've got the Rangers match with Victoria Pilsen in the Champions League,
01:04:38third qualifying round live for you on BBC Radio Scotland from 7 o'clock.
01:04:44Rapid Vienna are the side that Dundee United face on Thursday,
01:04:487.45 live on the telly, BBC Scotland.
01:04:51And then we're back in the Championship,
01:04:53and two of the title favourites, Ross County vs St Johnstone up in Dingwall,
01:04:58join us half past seven on the BBC Scotland channel.
01:05:02It has been quite the Sunday.
01:05:05Saturday was pretty interesting as well.
01:05:07The Rangers have won it back, here's Danilo.
01:05:19He's going to try his luck.
01:05:21Oh, so close from the Brazilian.
01:05:23He hasn't scored in his last 17 games back in the 2nd of January.
01:05:28He was only inches away from ending that streak.
01:05:33Most of the Rangers' corner kicks are being aimed at the back post in their game so far.
01:05:39So to that one, it's one and it's in.
01:05:42And it's the captain, James Tavernier, who rises at the back post to nod down,
01:05:47and Ward are able to keep it out.
01:05:50And Rangers have the first goal of the Premiership season under Russell Martin.
01:05:55And James Tavernier, who so often has come up trumps for the club, does so once more.
01:06:06McGinn looking to latch on to that.
01:06:09McGinn's done well, it's McGinn.
01:06:11Saved from Butler and cleared by Suter.
01:06:14Desperate defending though from Rangers.
01:06:17His terrific play from Motherwell.
01:06:20And Paulum again, so unfortunate here not to find the bottom corner.
01:06:26He's managed to get through too.
01:06:28Now then, is there an end product this time?
01:06:31Not from him.
01:06:34Claims for offside, is it an equaliser!
01:06:36And it's long-de-law who blasts on!
01:06:39And at last, Motherwell have the rewards!
01:06:42They've been knocking on that door!
01:06:45All second half!
01:06:47And at long last, with just three and a half minutes to go.
01:06:51It is a cracking finish from Emmanuel Longelo.
01:06:56His second mother will go.
01:06:58Another good value for that equaliser.
01:07:01Polworth wins the ball.
01:07:02He picks out the run of Daniels.
01:07:03Appeals for offside.
01:07:04It's in the back of the net.
01:07:05But the flag is up.
01:07:06Very early to deny Gennaro Daniels a goal on his Premiership debut.
01:07:09Well, that is incredibly tight.
01:07:14Gennaro Daniels, the journeyman.
01:07:15He scored in Canada, Portugal, Iceland and Ireland.
01:07:17Adds Scotland to that list.
01:07:18Adds Scotland to that list.
01:07:20A fine finish.
01:07:21A fine finish.
01:07:23And a fine pass.
01:07:24from Liam Polworth.
01:07:25Who's been pestering the Livingston midfield.
01:07:28all afternoon.
01:07:29How do Livingston can do the Macyfels that get into the quarterback of the Chelsea team?
01:07:33LOL
01:07:34Gennaro Daniels, the journeyman.
01:07:35Gennaro Daniels, the journeyman!
01:07:37He scored in Canada, Portugal, Iceland and Ireland.
01:07:39He scored in Canada, Portugal, Iceland and Ireland.
01:07:42Adds Scotland to that list.
01:07:44A fine finish.
01:07:47A fine pass.
01:07:48And a fine pass.
01:07:49From Liam Polworth.
01:07:51Who's been pestering the Livingston midfield.
01:07:53on the afternoon.
01:07:55how do Livingston respond
01:08:00they lost 1-0 here just a few weeks ago
01:08:03and now Jimmy Brandon's in behind
01:08:04he's got players in the middle
01:08:06oh a good drop to Watson
01:08:072-0 Kilmarnock
01:08:11two goals in a matter of minutes
01:08:15and it's a real howler
01:08:18from Jerome Prier
01:08:19the Livingston goalkeeper
01:08:20just pams it back into the path of Watson
01:08:24who slides in gleefully
01:08:26for Kilmarnock second
01:08:28mountain to climb
01:08:30for Livingston in the second half
01:08:32Robbie Muirhead challenging
01:08:34George Stanger he goes down
01:08:36there is an appeal
01:08:37Matthew McDermott not interested
01:08:40the former killer youngster
01:08:44is absolutely adamant
01:08:46there is a foul here
01:08:47and indeed John beating the VAR
01:08:56is calling Matthew McDermott across
01:08:59it was a really strong appeal
01:09:05from Robbie Muirhead
01:09:06as he grappled
01:09:08with Stanger
01:09:10there is a tug of the arm
01:09:12a tug of the jersey as well
01:09:13well Muirhead's got
01:09:15a fair handful of Stanger
01:09:16but it's awkward
01:09:18it's uncomfortable
01:09:19and it doesn't look good
01:09:21for George Stanger
01:09:23no attempt to play the ball either
01:09:25and that is going to be a penalty
01:09:28a tug of the shirt
01:09:31and it's a red card as well
01:09:33for George Stanger
01:09:34Kilmarnock down to 10
01:09:37Livingston with a lifeline
01:09:40Robbie Muirhead
01:09:44from the spot
01:09:45he cracks it down the middle
01:09:48and halves the deficit
01:09:51Livingston right back in this now
01:09:54his first goal in the Premiership
01:09:56since 2016
01:09:58Finlissen
01:10:00to Lewis Smith
01:10:01up against Dominic Thompson
01:10:02only just on
01:10:03only just signed a few hours ago
01:10:05but Smith goes past him
01:10:06pulls it back for Pittman
01:10:082-2
01:10:10Livingston
01:10:12have their level up
01:10:13great finish as well
01:10:15into the top corner
01:10:16we have to talk about
01:10:25those scathing comments
01:10:26from the Rangers manager
01:10:27Russell Martin
01:10:27after the draw with
01:10:28Motherwell at Fir Park
01:10:29lucky to get a point
01:10:30he also talked about
01:10:32two men on the pitch
01:10:33who want to do
01:10:33what they want to do
01:10:35and said some of his players
01:10:36have to drop their ego
01:10:37it's not really tactical
01:10:38it's a mentality problem
01:10:40Michael Stewart
01:10:41always a risk for a manager
01:10:42I feel when he's
01:10:44calling out players like this
01:10:45has he got it right?
01:10:47Well it's especially
01:10:48you know
01:10:48concerning and risky
01:10:50when it's the first game
01:10:50of the league campaign
01:10:52I mean
01:10:53I don't think you can disagree
01:10:54with many of the comments
01:10:55that he says
01:10:55but when you're the manager
01:10:57of the club
01:10:57it certainly
01:10:58is a different dynamic
01:10:59and the thing I would say
01:11:01is that
01:11:01you know
01:11:03looking at the performance
01:11:05in Athens
01:11:06and then the performance
01:11:08at Fir Park
01:11:08I wouldn't say
01:11:10that it was much different
01:11:10with him
01:11:11you know
01:11:11in fact
01:11:11the results were the same
01:11:12you know
01:11:13it was both draws
01:11:14but obviously
01:11:15I appreciate that
01:11:15against Panathinaikos
01:11:17the victory
01:11:19and the tie
01:11:19adds a different
01:11:20perception to it
01:11:21but the performances
01:11:23against Panathinaikos
01:11:24weren't great
01:11:24the performance
01:11:25against Motherwell
01:11:26clearly wasn't good either
01:11:27but you then need to go
01:11:29and sign the right characters
01:11:30and the right players
01:11:31and play the specific way
01:11:32that's going to suit those guys
01:11:34to get the best out of them
01:11:35Russell Markham's brought in
01:11:36for a specific style of football
01:11:38the first league campaign
01:11:39of the season
01:11:40they've been
01:11:41absolutely dominated
01:11:43playing that style
01:11:44by Motherwell
01:11:45and their new manager
01:11:46who's got
01:11:47infinitely less money
01:11:48to spend
01:11:49and actually had less time
01:11:50to work on the team
01:11:51because he was involved
01:11:52in the League Cup
01:11:53Sure
01:11:53absolutely
01:11:54we need to talk as well
01:11:55about the match
01:11:56tomorrow night
01:11:57it's a huge match
01:11:58Hearts against Aberdeen
01:11:59interestingly
01:12:00when these sides
01:12:01have played each other
01:12:02neither of them
01:12:02have won away from home
01:12:04since 2017
01:12:06which is quite incredible
01:12:07last time that happened
01:12:08was when Aberdeen
01:12:09managed by Derek McInnes
01:12:10did that
01:12:11and Michael
01:12:13do you think
01:12:14who's going to get that
01:12:15who's going to be
01:12:16the side that finishes
01:12:16third as well
01:12:17well I think
01:12:19obviously we've seen
01:12:20Hibs look very impressive
01:12:21I think Hearts are obviously
01:12:22going to have a strong season
01:12:23and likewise
01:12:23I would imagine
01:12:24Aberdeen are going to be up there
01:12:25as well
01:12:25but it's going to be
01:12:26a very interesting game
01:12:26tomorrow
01:12:27very very intriguing
01:12:29and I'm looking forward
01:12:30to seeing how both sides
01:12:31are shaping up
01:12:32so far
01:12:33obviously seen a lot
01:12:34of Hearts in the Cup
01:12:36and they've looked good
01:12:38some of the signings
01:12:39are strong
01:12:40and with a strong manager
01:12:42like Derek McInnes
01:12:42it should be an exciting
01:12:43season for them
01:12:44both top six for me
01:12:45both top six
01:12:46I wonder who's going to
01:12:47miss out on this top six
01:12:48Charlie
01:12:48haven't quite got to the
01:12:50bottom of that
01:12:51but tomorrow
01:12:51who's going to win
01:12:52very briefly
01:12:53Hearts are going to win
01:12:542-1 for me
01:12:55Wow
01:12:55and there we have it
01:12:56Charlie
01:12:57Michael
01:12:57it's been an absolute pleasure
