00:01Two exhausted sailors were rescued off the coast of Lord Howe Island after vanishing in treacherous seas for more than 36 hours.
00:13The pair had been travelling from Sydney aboard a 10 metre yacht when they lost contact around 60 nautical miles out,
00:20with waves reportedly reaching up to 8 metres and winds hitting 74 kilometres an hour during the recent weather bomb.
00:30A full-scale rescue was launched after their EPIRB beacon was activated
00:35and the Marine Rescue NSW volunteers located the vessel 40 kilometres south-west of the island,
00:41towing it to safety in dangerous conditions.
00:48Authorities praised the skipper for logging their voyage through the Marine Rescue NSW app,
00:53calling it a vital tool that helps save lives in this perilous situation.
