00:00I thought we were celebrating the upcoming graduation of our son.
00:03Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at 10 seemingly mundane photos that showcase horrible people.
00:09At one point, his friend Mike Mandel told investigators Tyler discussed allegedly purchasing a garden tool to, quote, use it on someone.
00:19John Wayne Gacy and the First Lady.
00:21On the go for Democrats as Norwood Park committeemen, a visit with Rosalind Carter, the First Lady during the Carter administration.
00:27Gacy right here is hiding the fact that there are bodies buried under his house.
00:32Here we see a respectable man bespoke in a red suit and shaking hands with First Lady Rosalind Carter.
00:37Surely this is a man of some renown.
00:39Nope, it's John Wayne Gacy, killer of at least 33 people.
00:44Gacy was active in local politics and had gained access to the event as a precinct captain.
00:48He's very attentive to all details, and so he's sort of, uh, that's the way that he operates.
00:55And that's how, that's how, uh, people like him are able to cover up these, do these crimes and cover them up because they are well planned and organized.
01:05He was even vetted by the Secret Service and given a special pin indicating he had passed a background check.
01:10This pin can be seen in the photo, and it serves as a horrifying bit of irony.
01:14This photo was taken in May of 1978 when Gacy had already murdered dozens of people.
01:19He was caught and confessed that following December, stating that he was responsible for approximately 30 murders.
01:26Hi Meg, we're right in the middle of lunch.
01:28John, I'm sorry to disturb you, but that hideous stench coming from under your house is getting worse.
01:33It's moisture buildup in my crawlspace. I'm taking care of it, I promise.
01:37Myra Hindley and her dog.
01:38The crimes committed by Moore's murderer, Myra Hindley, shocked the nation.
01:44Hindley has been demonized as the most evil woman in Britain.
01:47Take one look on Instagram or any other social site and you'll find a gajillion photos of people with their dogs.
01:53People posing with their lovable pets is nothing new.
01:56In fact, let's go back in time to 1963 when this photo was taken.
02:00It depicts a woman kneeling in an English moor, an adorable puppy cradled underneath her arm.
02:05Cute, right? Well, not really.
02:07The crime scene of the murder of Edward Evans was a grossly blood-splattered affair,
02:12in the midst of which Myra Hindley was projecting herself as a laughing, gay, busy housewife,
02:19tidying up a normal domestic scene.
02:21She normalized what was grossly abnormal.
02:24This is child killer Myra Hindley, who, with her partner Ian Brady,
02:28murdered five young people in the early 1960s.
02:30In fact, this photo shows Hindley kneeling over the grave of their second victim, John Kilbride.
02:35The photo was taken by Brady at Saddleworth Moor,
02:38which is where he and Hindley took and buried their victims.
02:41The last time I saw my brother John was in 1963 on a Saturday morning as I got up.
02:47What he used to do every Saturday was going out the market,
02:50so all this peck away.
02:53He'd just never come home that night.
02:54Jeffrey Franklin's smile.
02:55Franklin was 17 when he killed his parents
02:58and tried to murder his three young siblings at their South Huntsville home.
03:03That was in 1998.
03:04A young man looks over his shoulder, his eyes wide and his mouth grinning.
03:08He looks like your everyday college kid,
03:10and this photo could have easily been taken during a night on the town.
03:13But really, it was a night in a police car.
03:16You see, this is 17-year-old Jeffrey Franklin.
03:19And earlier that night, he used weapons like a hatchet,
03:21a sledgehammer and a knife to murder his parents and attack his three younger siblings.
03:26A neighbor spotted Franklin covered in blood and called 911, leading to his arrest.
03:30In this photo, Franklin is sitting in the back of the police car.
03:34And with that knowledge, those eyes suddenly become a lot more wild.
03:38And that grin, a lot more diabolical.
03:40Parole denied in a high-profile murder case out of Huntsville.
03:44Jeffrey Franklin is serving five consecutive life sentences at Bullock Correctional Facility.
03:49That's near Union Springs.
03:51And he won't be getting out of prison anytime soon.
03:53Jennifer and Sarah Hart pose with the family.
03:56That family almost never left the home, only to go to the store.
03:59And that late last year, the signs of trouble started to become glaringly obvious.
04:02You can never trust what you see on social media.
04:06If you were to look on Jennifer Hart's Facebook page,
04:08you'd see a loving family consisting of Jennifer, her wife Sarah, and their six adopted children.
04:13The Hart's presented themselves as a loving, progressive, and multiracial family,
04:17often posting curated photos like this one to their socials.
04:20They go on to say the family was all about community,
04:23whether it was marching together or going to family-friendly music festivals,
04:27and that they shared positive energy and love no matter where they went.
04:30But despite this positive public image, the Hart children were severely neglected,
04:35often suffering starvation and both physical and mental abuse.
04:38At one point, young Hannah Hart jumped out of her bedroom window and asked her neighbor for help,
04:43but she was quickly returned home without incident.
04:46The Hart story tragically culminated on March 26, 2018,
04:50when Jennifer drove the family off a cliff.
04:52Ruling just about an hour ago, the Hart mothers intentionally took their own lives
04:57and the lives of their six adopted children.
04:59Rodney Alcala's headshot.
05:01Between takes, you might find him skydiving or motorcycling.
05:04Please welcome Rodney Alcala.
05:07Rod, welcome.
05:08Who is this fine-looking man, you may be asking?
05:11The movie star looks shine through the outdated fashion,
05:13and this could easily pass as a headshot for a professional actor.
05:17Unfortunately, you cannot judge people solely on their looks.
05:21Bachelor number one.
05:23Yes?
05:23What's your best time?
05:27The best time is at night.
05:29Nighttime.
05:30Why do you say that?
05:32Because that's the only time there is.
05:34While this man looks put together and respectable,
05:36he's actually a heinous sex offender who may have murdered up to 130 people.
05:41He is Rodney Alcala, whom you probably know better as the dating game killer,
05:46owing to his infamous appearance on the game show of the same name.
05:49No one knows Alcala's true body count,
05:51but he was ultimately convicted of seven murders and sentenced to death.
05:55However, he died of a heart attack in 2021 after decades of legal delays.
06:00Thank you, Rodney.
06:02Okay.
06:03You can go relax, meet each other, say hello, get acquainted.
06:06Bart Whitaker's graduation dinner.
06:08Agreeing with the parole board,
06:09Texas Governor Greg Abbott commuted Whitaker about an hour before his scheduled execution.
06:14He was convicted of arranging a plot that left his mother and brother fatally shot.
06:18College graduation, a huge milestone and one certainly worth celebrating.
06:23In December 2003, Thomas Bartlett Bart Whitaker went out with his family
06:27to celebrate his graduation from Sam Houston State.
06:30One photo shows him proudly sitting with his mother and brother,
06:33and another shows him holding a celebratory dessert.
06:36However, this was all a ruse, as Whitaker had not graduated from university.
06:40As they celebrate his graduation, only Bart knows that an intruder has quietly entered their home.
06:47His deadly plot is about to begin.
06:50Later that evening, a gunman hired by Whitaker ambushed the family inside the house,
06:54killing his mother and brother, injuring his father,
06:57and shooting Whitaker in the arm to make it look like he was a victim.
07:00Even though he did not personally fire the weapon,
07:03Whitaker was convicted of murder and sentenced to death,
07:05although this was later commuted to life in prison.
07:07Bart smiles, and yet he knows that if everything goes as planned,
07:13in less than 30 minutes, his brother, his mother, and his father will all be dead.
07:18Tyler Hadley at the party.
07:20We are learning more tonight about the case of Tyler Hadley,
07:22the Treasure Coast teen accused of bludgeoning his parents to death with a hammer.
07:26Two young men pose at a party, one of them holding a red cup.
07:29There are billions of photos like this on social media,
07:32and no one would find this one suspicious.
07:34But what if we told you there were two dead bodies upstairs?
07:36Kelly, evidence filed today by the state attorney's office indicates that Tyler Hadley
07:41hinted to several friends during a party at his family home on July 16th
07:46that he had killed his parents earlier that day.
07:49On July 16th, 2011, Tyler Hadley, the young man holding the cup,
07:53bludgeoned both of his parents to death with a hammer,
07:56then invited about 60 friends over for a party.
07:59Guests reported a funny smell inside the house,
08:01and on one occasion, Hadley took his friend Michael Mandel upstairs to see their corpses.
08:05Mandel then took this photo with Hadley, keeping up a friendly ruse.
08:10He called a crime hotline later that night, and Hadley was arrested.
08:13The 17-year-old Hadley told two friends he would be going to prison for a long time,
08:19telling one it was because he, quote, did something bad.
08:22Ted Bundy in court.
08:24Kim was full of goodness and hope and kindness.
08:28That's part of the reason I feel like our classmates still cling together,
08:33because of her goodness.
08:34If you had no concept of who Ted Bundy was,
08:37this photo would seem perfectly normal, maybe even intensely professional.
08:41With his nice suit, documents, and briefcase,
08:43he could be one of the millions of lawyers working across the country,
08:47intently watching a case as it unfolds.
08:49But as we know, there is way more to the story.
08:52There comes word from Lake City, that's about 90 miles east of Tallahassee,
08:57that a junior high school student, Kimberly Leach,
09:01has disappeared during the middle of the school day.
09:04Bundy is one of the most notorious serial killers in history,
09:07a true psychopath in every sense of the word.
09:10In this photo, he's watching the jury selection during his trial in Orlando
09:14for killing a 12-year-old girl named Kimberly Leach.
09:16Leach was Bundy's final confirmed victim before he was finally caught and sentenced to death.
09:21It was raining, drizzly, very dreary day.
09:24I went to our designated spot to meet up, to go to our next class together,
09:29and she wasn't there.
09:31We knew something was wrong.
09:34BTK is a proud father.
09:35This letter is very clear to tell us,
09:38you have the wrong people.
09:40You need to stop looking at them.
09:42You need to come back and focus your attention on me.
09:44I am the important one.
09:45In this case, the graduation was real.
09:48A proud middle-aged man and his daughter pose in front of a tree,
09:52the daughter having just graduated from Kansas State University.
09:55They look like a happy family, but the father was hiding a very dark secret.
09:59He wanted to brag about it.
10:00He wanted to make sure that we, the police, found it undisturbed,
10:05and he wanted us to see his work,
10:06and wanted us to realize the type of quote-unquote monster we were dealing with.
10:14This is Carrie Rawson, and her father is Dennis Rader, also known as BTK.
10:19By this point, Rader had already murdered at least 10 people,
10:22his crimes stretching from 1974 to 1991.
10:26And he might have gotten away with it,
10:28as the case had gone cold by the time this photo was taken.
10:30However, he contacted the media in the mid-2000s to gloat,
10:34and police were able to trace a floppy disk directly to him, leading to his arrest.
10:39We could tell that it was somehow affiliated with Christ Lutheran Church
10:42and the Park City Community Public Library.
10:45And the next thing we looked at was statistics,
10:48and it shows here that it was last saved by Dennis.

11:07Josef Mengele sits down to eat.
11:09He went to Auschwitz, because in Auschwitz,
11:11he would have the chance of experimenting on testing,
11:15examining more twins,
11:17and he planned to later write about it,
11:20use it in order to make his scientific career.
11:23This photo of four people eating at a restaurant was on display in Embu, Brazil.
11:28Why?
11:29It's just an old photo of four happy people enjoying each other's company and having a nice meal.
11:34What's so interesting about that?
11:35Well, the older man on the left is Josef Mengele,
11:38the notorious Nazi doctor who conducted inhumane medical experiments at Auschwitz during World War II.
11:43Like many people, I've read about this place.
11:46I've seen pictures and movies about it.
11:49But I didn't fully get the sheer scale and the extent of the suffering
11:52until I saw this place with my own eyes.
11:55Mengele's experiments were grotesque,
11:57like sewing people together to make conjoined twins
12:00and injecting chemicals into eyeballs to see if they would change color.
12:03And why was this photo in Brazil?
12:05Because that's where he spent his final years,
12:08having successfully escaped justice for decades before drowning in 1979.
12:12Because of Mengele's fascination with eye color,
12:16he ended up removing the eyes from many of his victims.
12:20And that's why the memorial to Mengele's victims
12:23that was erected in his hometown of Gunsborg consists of many, many eyes.
12:27Were you fooled by these photos?
12:29Let us know in the comments below.
12:31It's really disturbing.
