00:30Hi, my name is Cindy Piccoli, and I'd like to welcome you to the Good Housekeeping Children's Learning Series.
00:40Today, we're going to discover a magical world of letters and numbers.
00:45The alphabet from A to Z, and numbers 1 through 10.
00:50We're setting off on our learning journey with two of my special friends.
00:55Their names are Simon and Chloe, and their cousins.

01:06Simon lives in Number City, where there are numbers everywhere.
01:15And Chloe lives on Alphabet Farm, with the letters A through Z.
01:21Whenever they visit one another, they have exciting learning adventures.
01:26So come along with me, and I'll tell you a wonderful story about Simon and Chloe.
01:32It all started one day last spring, when Chloe invited Simon to visit Alphabet Farm.
01:40It was spring, a perfect time for swimming in the creek or picking flowers in the sun.
01:46But spring on Alphabet Farm meant spring cleaning.
01:51Chloe had a lot of letters to tend to, 26 of them in all.
01:57She also had a lot of counting to do, to find out exactly how many animals were living on the farm.
02:04Now, the ABCs were no trouble for Chloe.
02:07She lived on Alphabet Farm, after all.
02:10But she needed help with the counting, so she asked her cousin Simon, who lived in Number City and knew everything about numbers,
02:17to come and help her out with the counting.
02:29On the first morning of Simon's visit to the farm, Chloe woke him up just at sunrise.

02:52It's time to get up!
02:58I'm ready!
02:59Even though it was so early, Simon was happy to be visiting Chloe.
03:05He didn't know much about the letters of the alphabet, or the farm for that matter, but he was eager to learn.

03:18B for my bed upstairs.
03:22C for Cat.
03:26D for Door.
03:27E for Egg.
03:32F for Feather.
03:34And G for Glass.
03:36This is a very special place, Chloe!
03:39Being a good guest, Simon started learning right away, and Chloe really appreciated it, because she had many things to do.
03:48But Simon was a little overwhelmed.
03:51After all, he'd never been to a farm, let alone one with all the letters of the alphabet.
03:56He was sure glad he was with Chloe, who knew her entire alphabet by heart.

05:25The goat, G, needed feeding.
05:29And speaking of goats, there were so many of them.
05:33How would Chloe count them all?
05:36Simon, we've got so many animals on the farm.
05:40Did you remember to bring your magic city numbers?
05:44Abracadabra, one, two, three.
05:47I brought the numbers for you and me.
05:52One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

06:18Some parts of spring cleaning were a lot of fun.
06:29Simon had never been this close to an animal before, let alone an animal that was so big.
06:35But Harry the horse had to be brushed.
06:38And Chloe decided to teach Simon how.

06:49If you said H, you're right.
06:52Simon didn't know quite what to expect from Harry and the other animals on the farm.
06:57Simon discovered some other letters nearby.
07:06Let's see.
07:07There's H for horse, I for ice cream, J for jacket, K for key, L for leaf.
07:18Of course, there's also H for hat.
07:21You really have to watch your H's around here.
07:24And look, more horses.
07:27Simon discovered that Harry was not Chloe's only horse.
07:32There were many more horses and Chloe wanted to count them all.
07:37She asked Simon to summon his magic city numbers.
07:41Abracadabra, one, two, three.
07:44Let's have the numbers for you and me.
07:47Simon's beautiful city numbers were ready to be used.
07:51There was a number one for one horse.
07:54There was a number two for two horses.
07:58There was a number three for three horses.
08:02One, two, three.
08:05As easy as could be.
08:07But Chloe knew she had more than three horses.
08:12Where were the others?
08:14There they were, munching hay from the hay wagon.
08:18How many horses did Chloe have in all?
08:21You remember that Harry was number one.
08:24Then there were two and three.
08:27These two more make four and five.
08:30Chloe had five horses in all.
08:34Chloe was very pleased at how well Simon's magic city numbers counted her horses.
08:41So let's see now.
08:43I have one horse.
08:46That's Harry.
08:48And then I have two, three, four, five horses in all.
09:01Thank you for your help, Simon.
09:04Simon was pleased to help.
09:06But his smile didn't last long.
09:09Poor Simon.
09:10Before Simon could say one, two, three, the goat had snatched the numbers and were running away.
09:17Oh no!
09:19How could Simon and Chloe ever catch up with her?
09:22Chloe had an idea.
09:24And Simon didn't like it.
09:26But he was too worried about his numbers to argue.
09:29So Chloe and Simon set off after Gilda on their trusty horse Harry.
09:45Gilda led them all over the farm.
09:48But they couldn't find the goat anywhere.
09:51Harry the horse was getting tired and Simon and Chloe had to milk the cow.
10:07I'm really sorry about your magic numbers, Simon.
10:11That's alright.
10:12We'll find them eventually.
10:14Chloe reassured Simon that they would keep looking for his city numbers as soon as they milked the cow.

10:31Well, I see the M for milk.
10:35The N for nest.
10:38The O for ostrich.
10:41Chloe has an ostrich on her farm.

11:00Simon was enjoying the farm and learning his alphabet.
11:04But while he and Chloe were milking the cow, who did he see go running by?
11:09Gilda the goat!
11:10That's who!
11:11And she still had Simon's magic numbers in her mouth.
11:15Simon was so excited that he almost spilled all the milk.
11:19He and Chloe set off after Gilda at once.
11:32They finally caught up with Gilda, hiding with the other goats.
11:36Simon was delighted.
11:38He decided to offer Gilda a trade.
11:41Luckily for Simon, Gilda seemed more interested in the carrot than his numbers.
11:46Simon finally got them back.
11:48One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!
11:59All my numbers are happy again. They're all here.
12:02I'm glad you found your numbers, Simon. And I'm really sorry about my naughty goat!
12:09Chloe and Simon found the Magic City numbers just in time.
12:13I never had so many goats before, Simon. How will we ever count them?

12:25Simon's numbers saved the day. They counted all of Chloe's goats.

13:21and the sun was now right overhead.

13:26We're more than halfway through the alphabet, Simon.
13:29Which means that we're more than halfway on our way to lunch.

14:32But there were still more letters to learn and counting to be done.
15:09This spring I have some new sheep, so I need to count them. Will you help me, Simon?

15:20Abracadabra, one, two, three. Let's have the numbers for Chloe and me!
15:30How many sheep did Chloe have on the farm? Can you count all the sheep along with Chloe?
15:36Let's see. I have one, two, three sheep, four, five, six sheep, seven, eight, nine sheep, ten sheep and all!
16:02You really have learned your numbers, Chloe.
16:06But what will you do when I'm gone?
16:09I think I'll leave my magic city numbers here with you on the farm, so you'll always have them to do your spring counting.
16:16So Simon gave his magic city numbers to Chloe. She was so pleased that she hardly knew what to say.
16:33Chloe's sheep had big, soft coats, which were used to make wool.
16:37But how do you get the wool off the sheep, Chloe?
16:41You give the sheep a haircut, Simon.
16:44It doesn't hurt the sheep. They just grow another coat.
16:48Sheep haircuts? Do you give people haircuts, too?
16:52Chloe didn't think that Simon would want a haircut with the scissors she used on the sheep.
16:58Simon had never seen such a big pair of scissors.
17:02Chloe explained that they were called shears.

17:09If you guess S, you're right.
17:13What other letters can you pick out with Simon?
17:16I see Q for quail, R for rope, S for sheep, T for tractor, U for umbrella, and V for vegetables.
17:38I think the end of the alphabet is harder than the beginning, Chloe.

17:42You're right, Simon. I think Q and V are particularly difficult letters.
17:47Let's repeat them.
17:50Q for quail, R for rope, S for sheep, T for tractor, U for umbrella, and V for vegetables.
18:07But the hardest letters of all were still to come.
18:14Even Chloe had trouble with the last four letters of the alphabet.
18:18So she decided to visit a friend for help.
18:23Linda is a llama.
18:25Llamas usually live far away in the mountains of South America.
18:30But Linda came to Chloe when she was just a baby, and Chloe raised her.
18:35She was Chloe's favorite farm animal, and very spoiled.
18:40Chloe had put all sorts of toys and fun things to play with in Linda's pen.
18:46Can you pick out Linda's toys in their letters?
18:49There's a W for wagon, X for xylophone, Y for yarn, and Z for zebra.
19:04Stuffed, of course.
19:06Simon had never seen a pet with so many toys.
19:11But he knew why Chloe loved Linda.
19:13She was soft and gentle, and had beautiful brown eyes.
19:18She was his favorite animal on the farm.
19:21But Simon had worked hard all morning, and Chloe was grateful.
19:28She'd made a special picnic lunch for both of them.
19:31They were very hungry.
19:33They ate lunch under the apple tree, and remembered the letters they had just learned.

20:32Simon had learned all of his letters, just like you.
20:35And he was very proud of himself.
20:38Chloe was very happy that Simon had given her his magic numbers.

22:49and point out groups of letters or a counting sequence, reinforcing concepts that may be difficult or tricky for your child.
22:57You can also stop the video to show your child sections he or she may like best,
23:03to take a closer look at the goats, for example, or milking the cow.

23:13Help make the learning enjoyable by getting involved in this story.
23:17And you can even run the program in fast forward or reverse just for fun.
23:22This program is also effective when watched by a group of children or one child without parental supervision.
23:29By introducing the concepts in story form, the children are interested and entertained and are motivated to keep watching and learning at the same time.
23:39Don't expect a child to learn all the material immediately.
23:43The tape is designed to introduce children to the subject matter, to familiarize them with numbers and letters.

23:52There may be days that your child may not feel like watching.
23:55Accept this.
23:56Your child will learn more when they are alert and interested rather than restless.
