00:25Welcome Roo fans, we're going to get into the session now
00:27Eli Jane, welcome to Roo Talk
00:30Thanks for having me
00:32We would really love to get to know you, I know you have a wonderful life
00:35Before this moment, could you walk us to what has happened and how you get to where you are today?
00:40It's definitely been a life's journey
00:42I moved around a lot as a kid, I'm the youngest of four kids
00:46Wow
00:46I lived all throughout the states, Michigan, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, San Diego, Florida
00:51I had learning disabilities and some trauma which couldn't help me focus in school
00:56And so I had a very bad taste in my mouth about school because I wasn't good at it
01:01And I was homeschooled, so I missed a lot of the basics
01:03I love my mom, she tried her best
01:05And also moving around had a lot of gaps in my education
01:08Yeah, what was that mostly for?
01:10The moving around, what's the cause of it?
01:11My dad, my dad's work, he would get a job and then we would move
01:15Gotcha
01:15Yeah
01:16You just dropped nine places, eight places?
01:18Yeah, it was a lot
01:19So like the longest I ever lived in a house I think was three years or something
01:23Wow
01:23So
01:24And all four kids, the whole family got uprooted and moved
01:27Yeah
01:28Wow
01:28I have fond memories of every summer we would go back to Michigan
01:32Because both my mom and my dad's family are from Michigan
01:36So we would get in this camper and we would travel from whatever state we were living in
01:41Yeah, because it's cheaper with four kids and then it's like a bonding experience
01:44So I'm really grateful that I had siblings because I feel like it really helped me get used to males and females
01:52So they were always, and I was the youngest, so I was trying to keep up with them
01:55And my mom, one of the reasons she held me back is she was like, you're too mature
01:59So I would hang out with all the older siblings
02:02So I lived in San Diego, my parents had divorced
02:08And my mother wanted to go back to where she would go every summer, which was Sarasota, Florida
02:13So she moved me to Sarasota, Florida, and I was very bitter about that because I really didn't want to go
02:18I see
02:19And I was leaving my dad as well
02:21So that was another thing that was very hard on me as a young teen
02:26To leave my dad and to leave where I wanted to
02:29So by the time I was 18, I moved back to be with my father in California
02:35But I also knew that that's where entertainment was
02:38Gotcha
02:38Back in those days, there was like YM, Seventeen Magazine, Oprah Winfrey
02:45I did a cover contest, and so I got runner-up for Seventeen Magazine
02:48And then Seventeen Magazine found me, I was doing covers for like Italy
02:53And they found me on Seventeen and they were like, you're an up and coming star
02:57And so I was on her show with Usher and Serena Williams
03:01But I was also a very good cheerleader at the time
03:04Because of my gymnastics, I like excelled basically
03:07By the time I was 18, I was pregnant
03:10We started a clothing company called Vondage
03:12I started it with gangsters
03:14They had another gangster line called Bronze Age
03:17And if you watch the documentary on Hulu, it'll go into it more
03:20But they had no credit
03:23His partner had just gotten out of San Quentin
03:25He'd done some jail time
03:27And so the company was very fruitful, Bronze Age
03:30But they, because of him going to prison, he lost that company
03:34So then they started Vondage
03:36And they had no credit line
03:38So they used my credit line and my mom's credit line
03:40And like everything was in my name
03:43So it was like the phone bills, the FedEx
03:45Me flying to them to their initial investor into Japan
03:49Right
03:50And then once he got that money, it was like we split apart
03:53And so I never saw any of that money from Vondage
03:56Vondage ended up taking off and becoming a really big thing
04:00Which is why they did the documentary a few years back
04:03And so it was kind of nostalgic to
04:07After that company had already become so big
04:09And you know that you helped out
04:11It was kind of like, you know, that movie Hidden Figures
04:13Where like the women actually help a lot
04:15But then you didn't even really get credit during the documentary
04:18Of like how much you actually helped this company
04:20Right
04:20And without my money or my credit actually
04:23Putting yourself on the line like that
04:25Yeah, the company would be no more
04:27You know what I mean?
04:28So, um, that's what I'm so grateful for
04:31It's verticals
04:32Oh, okay
04:33Because women are actually having a voice
04:34How does that transition into acting then?
04:37When does acting come into your life?
04:39So, it was a struggle, you know
04:42Being a single mom with no child support
04:44Raising a son
04:46But I just, I couldn't imagine doing anything else
04:48I wanted it so bad
04:50And so I would do whatever I could
04:52And there was basically music videos, commercials
04:54And that's what I did a lot of
04:56Then I got into stunts
04:58Or somewhere in between
05:00And I started really making a living doing stunts
05:03And that was amazing
05:04That makes sense
05:05Okay
05:05It was really cool, yeah
05:07And the stunt community was really great
05:09I mean, they're very, they're crazy
05:12They probably come from also a lot of different lives as well
05:16Yes
05:17They're crazy
05:19Um, and I can say that both of my kids are first responders
05:23So they're crazy as well
05:25There's a rush when it comes to stunts
05:28Comes to anything like that
05:30I feel like
05:31Okay
05:31If you're a first responder
05:32I mean, that's a rush
05:33Yeah, yeah
05:34When I was doing stunts
05:35I stopped drinking
05:37And for me, what happened was
05:39It like switched my addictions to food
05:42And so, um, even my second child
05:45That was like 200 pounds
05:46So I've always had a struggle
05:47About with like food
05:49Of overeating, undereating
05:50I've had a bad relationship
05:52That I've had to really restructure
05:53And change my thinking around
05:56Oh my god
05:56Yeah, yeah
05:58I mean, I think it's very common for addicts to, to switch
06:03I mean, if you're an addict
06:04Yeah
06:04And there are different addicts
06:06So it's not safe for me to say that
06:07But for my type of addict, um, I just switched
06:13So it became food
06:14And it sort of took over my life
06:17To where I couldn't make a living
06:18And I couldn't focus
06:20And, um, you would think
06:22Oh, you're sober
06:23You can do things
06:24But that's not what happened for me
06:25Okay
06:26What happened for me was
06:27I had a very bad bottom on food
06:30And for me, I take it as like my HP
06:33My higher power, my, my higher universe
06:36Was like telling me like
06:37You have to figure this out
06:39Okay
06:39Or you're not going to be able to go on
06:42Um, and you know
06:43It's like all of these little things
06:45That you think are so terrible
06:47Like the drinking, the using, the, the food
06:51They end up becoming one of your superpowers
06:54So, um, just like losing custody of my son
06:58Mm-hmm
06:59And, and a lot of these real shorts
07:01I, I do the mom who loses their kid
07:04And I have that experience
07:05I, I've had years and years of
07:08Trauma and sadness and
07:12What comes with losing a child
07:14You know, you're changing that, that person's
07:18Growing up and how they're going to become as a human
07:22And, and knowing that it's my fault
07:24You know, knowing that it's because of what I consumed
07:27And the selfishness of that
07:31There's a lot of weight that comes with that
07:33Um, but like how cool is that
07:37That I've been able to make a living
07:38That's one of the things that I do
07:40You know, I mean, I can share that with the world
07:43I can help people understand
07:45I can help them feel
07:46I can entertain them
07:47But in the moment you think
07:49Oh my God, this is a terrible thing
07:52And am I ever going to make it out of that?
07:54Right
07:54And you do
07:56Yeah
07:56You know, and you just become stronger
07:59Unless, you know, there's this saying
08:01You're either growing or you're going
08:04And for me, I've grown
08:06I don't want to go yet
08:07So I just keep fighting
08:09No, you won't
08:10Oh, that's really inspiring
08:12And I can
08:13Now I think, I don't know if the audiences
08:15Know about this backstory
08:17But if they have known all those moments
08:19That they see who have become more powerful
08:21Especially the moms out there
08:23Or whoever's struggling
08:24Yeah
08:24Yeah, I know
08:25You know, sometimes I feel like
08:27My acting is connected with something higher than me
08:29I don't know where it comes from
08:32But I really try to utilize that
08:33Because I feel like in some instances
08:36It's not really me
08:37It's something greater than me
08:39That's trying to get portrayed on screen
08:41And I remember having a moment
08:43I was talking to the other actress
08:46But I was really just talking to the next generation
08:50And I was literally, like, wanting the young
08:54The next up and coming generation to know
08:56Like a similar story that I was just talking about
08:58I was like, you're gonna get through it
09:00You're gonna overcome it
09:03And the universe needs you
09:05The universe needs to hear you
09:08And, you know, that was such a beautiful moment
09:10I really hope more people go and watch
09:12Song of My Mother's Tears
09:13It came out not too long ago
09:14Right, that was in the show, in the script
09:17Your conversation with the next generation
09:20Yeah, I mean, I was utilizing
09:21I was talking to the other character
09:24But I was utilizing
09:26Knowing that a lot of younger people watch this
09:29And I wanted them to know that
09:31Because I know where I've been in my life
09:34And sometimes you just need to hear it
09:36You know, sometimes I hear things that I need to hear
09:40Like maybe from a higher universe or whatever
09:42By just watching TV or through talking to someone else or
09:47Somebody to ring the bell
09:49Yes
09:49Was there something about acting that you connected with
09:53That you chose to be your sort of current career
09:56Or what was the connection?
09:57I think the connection is just wanting to share my story and my life's work
10:03I mean, you know, oftentimes
10:06Sometimes I'll play characters and I know that I can be fun
10:08I can have a lot of fun on set
10:10Right
10:10Which is so fun, you know
10:11Because it's like a soap opera thing
10:12Right
10:13Sometimes you can be really fun
10:14Also, I've experienced a lot of stuff
10:18And I want to
10:20Not only is it sort of therapy for me
10:23But I'm actually really shy
10:25You are?
10:26So, growing up, yeah
10:29Homeschooled
10:30You have to remember
10:31I didn't have
10:32The only communication I had was with my body
10:34So, as a gymnast
10:36I'd be in the gym for four hours
10:38And that's how I would communicate
10:39There wasn't a lot of like
10:42Verbal communication outside of my mom
10:45Okay
10:46So, people scare me
10:48Also, from moving around a lot
10:49I never really had to grow serious bonds
10:52And it really never mattered what I did
10:54Because I would just move again
10:55Right
10:56So, even if I was, you know, acting out
11:00No one would ever know
11:01Right
11:02And I was full of energy
11:04I was very rambunctious
11:05Yeah, that's what I was going to say
11:06That's the opposite of being shy
11:08Because I was in such good shape
11:09Uh-huh
11:09So, if I wasn't
11:10I didn't know how to be stimulated mentally
11:13I only knew how to be stimulated physically
11:15Right
11:16So, it's been a transition
11:18I mean, even my boyfriend today
11:20He is mentally stimulating for me
11:23And now that I'm sober
11:25And the older I get
11:26I find out how much I actually really like
11:28The mental stimulation
11:29But it's hard because I don't know how
11:32To communicate that well
11:35And, I mean, I'm learning
11:36I'm getting better
11:37Yeah
11:37I've progressed a whole lot
11:39Um, I think that's why interview
11:41Interviews terrify me
11:43Boy, you're killing it
11:44Don't worry about it
11:45Because I have to use my own words
11:47You know
11:48It's so funny because I'll be on set
11:50And I'll not like a word
11:50And I'll try to change it
11:52And then I've discovered that
11:54Usually if I don't like something
11:55It's because I don't understand it
11:57And I'll usually say
11:58Oh, it's written by AI
12:00Or, oh, the writer didn't understand
12:02But it really has nothing to do with
12:03Either one of those two things
12:04Because usually, especially real short
12:06Is very well thought out
12:07Uh-huh
12:07And it's usually me that doesn't know
12:09So, like, that's another thing
12:10That I have to reprogram
12:12Is the blame
12:12It's nobody's fault
12:13But Eli's
12:15And how Eli handles the situation
12:17Taking accountability
12:18I have to take accountability for me
12:21Now, whatever somebody else does
12:23Is none of my business
12:24It's all in how I
12:26Give you your best efforts
12:27Right, exactly
12:29I mean, with even the Oprah and the Seventeen
12:32And, you know, even coming out here
12:35And then starting Von Dutch
12:36And then going as an assistant producer at 21
12:40On a major motion picture
12:42I mean, I was given so many opportunities
12:45And I flushed them down the toilet
12:47I should probably be a lot further along in my career
12:51Had I not
12:52But then I can't live in regret
12:54Because I wouldn't be right here with you guys now
12:57And maybe this is what the universe needs to hear
12:59Maybe somebody needed to be here to tell you
13:01What it was like before
13:02So, I know that if I wouldn't have
13:06Done those harmful things to myself
13:08I feel like I would probably be further
13:11But who knows?
13:13You, yeah, I don't know
13:14Who knows?
13:14You can't say that
13:15You've given as many opportunities
13:16Yeah
13:17I just, you know, I don't want to
13:20I want to make sure that I'm honest with myself
13:22And the universe
13:23And say, like, I was given a lot of opportunities
13:25That I messed up
13:27And not everyone has to do that
13:29Yeah, no
13:30But I always just play the devil's
13:32Also play the devil's advocates
13:34Saying that most people are given opportunities
13:36And I don't think anyone was able to capture all of them
13:40People always have to grow from zero
13:42True
13:42So they always have to learn
13:44There's always a learning curve
13:45So in hindsight, we all missed out on some opportunities
13:48And you thought, oh, what a different life I would have had
13:51Yeah
13:52But no, it's just part of the process of life
13:55You have to learn and you have to fail at something
13:57You have to miss out on some
13:58Yeah
13:59I mean, I think it's also a testament to like
14:02If you are thinking negatively
14:04You really need to do some restructuring
14:09Rebranding
14:10Rethinking
14:11I actually ended up getting sober and helped
14:14By helping my son
14:16I wanted what was best for him
14:17I didn't want him to go through what I went through
14:19And I ended up sort of hearing what the therapist said
14:22You're doing so great right now
14:23You look like a total positive person
14:26A good member of the society
14:27I was not always like that
14:28I know, that's why when you say how far down you were
14:31That just shows how far you have become
14:33You know, how far you have gone
14:35So, yeah
14:36Applause to that
14:37I think that especially as a woman
14:39Yeah
14:39I had some really close calls
14:41I've had some situations that I'm not proud of
14:44Yeah
14:44I've been in contact with some of old Hollywood
14:47That is now part of the Me Too movement
14:50I mean, these are all
14:51But I can't say that I didn't necessarily
14:53Put myself in those situations
14:55You know, I wanted the easy way out
14:58And that's not the easy way out
15:00That's actually the hard way out
15:02Yeah
15:02You know, and that's again another thing
15:05Where like this next generation
15:06Now knows that they can work their butts off
15:09100%
15:09And they can become something
15:11They don't have to be a housewife of a director
15:14They don't have to sleep with
15:16They can do it themselves
15:18All they have to do is do the work now
15:19Yeah
15:19You know, because we're showing up in numbers
15:22You know
15:23This might be a good moment to quote Kim Kardashian
15:25Never mind
15:26I love it
15:27Get the quote
15:27You have to do the quote
15:28You can't say that
15:29Get your ass up and work
15:31Get your ass up and work
15:33Yes
15:34I don't know if that's the right quote
15:35But anyways
15:36Yes
15:36I mean, it's true though
15:37It was a meme
15:39But no, definitely
15:40There's way more channels and platforms
15:42Being, you know
15:43So that the people who are willing to
15:45The women who wanted to put in the work
15:46They have the ability to move up
15:49So I think that's
15:50Definitely
15:51This is a better time
15:52So
15:53This is very inspirational
15:55Let me
15:56Segway real quick
15:58To talk about real short
16:00And all the mother roles you're playing
16:02Yeah
16:02As you said
16:05It's a superpower that you have
16:06Living through so much
16:07Of those moments
16:08And now playing these motherly roles
16:10Any sort of like
16:11Jumping off points
16:12That you feel like
16:13Oh, this is
16:14A role that is exactly me
16:16Or this is a different type of mother
16:17That
16:18I'm not
16:19Quite them yet
16:20How
16:20How's that relationship
16:22With the roles you've been given so far?
16:24First of all
16:24I think that
16:25In any of my
16:26Acting
16:27I will put other
16:29Faces
16:30There
16:31Or other situations
16:32For instance
16:33There was that scene
16:35With the other character
16:35Where she was in the hospital
16:36Song of my mother's tears
16:38And I
16:39I was speaking
16:40To a greater population
16:42But I was still
16:44Wanting this next generation
16:46To know
16:46Or even
16:48Whoever was watching
16:49At that time
16:50That like
16:51This is
16:52And I was also talking
16:53To myself
16:53You know
16:54There's so much going on
16:55Channel
16:56Yeah
16:56You have to
16:57The desire of expression
16:58From you
16:59Yeah
16:59You have to channel it
17:00And I try to do that
17:02All the time
17:03So sometimes
17:03I'll put something
17:04Totally different
17:05In my
17:06Who I'm talking to
17:07Because
17:08Then the audience
17:10Is like
17:10What is she really thinking?
17:12Who is she really talking to?
17:15And that keeps it interesting
17:17I don't want people to be like
17:18Oh my god
17:18That's so boring
17:19Like I want to be
17:20Interesting
17:21I see
17:22You know
17:22I mean
17:23That's how I like to view
17:24Film and TV
17:25I like to watch
17:27And be interested
17:28Like what is she thinking?
17:31And why would she do that?
17:33I see
17:33You know
17:34Like
17:34What's the most fun role
17:36You have played so far?
17:38I was just thinking
17:39Well I loved
17:40The Alpha Queen Returns
17:42Uh huh
17:42That was amazing
17:44I had no idea
17:45Going to set
17:46That I was going to be
17:47Having like
17:48An English character
17:49Like have that accent
17:50Oh okay
17:51I did do
17:52Sorry guys
17:54But I did do like
17:56A scene in
17:56An American accent
17:57Because
17:58I was like
17:59Oh well
17:59What if I can't like
18:00Use that
18:01Like for any of my reels
18:02But I know
18:03It might have taken you
18:04Out of the character
18:05Shh
18:05Don't tell anyone
18:06But that's why I did it
18:07Do you know
18:07If they kept it?
18:08They did
18:09They kept it
18:09I thought about it
18:10And I was like
18:11I'm not going to use that
18:11Because I actually need
18:12The English
18:13Yeah
18:14It's good
18:14Yeah
18:14But when I showed up to set
18:16I had no idea
18:17Oh wow
18:17So we just whipped it up
18:18The director Longwood was like
18:20Uh yeah
18:21No I need you to say
18:22Like
18:22And I was like
18:23Holy
18:24Crap
18:25So I mean
18:26I try to be like
18:27Moldable and flexible
18:28And have no ideas
18:29Of what I perceive the character
18:31Because the director
18:32Could spin me
18:33A totally different direction
18:34This was literally
18:35The first day on set
18:36Of like
18:37This is how I want the character
18:38And holy
18:39I have to study
18:40A European accent
18:42And what does that look like?
18:43Damn
18:43What a challenge
18:44So yeah
18:45But it was also
18:46Written really well
18:47Um
18:48It was a challenge
18:50There was a lot of dialogue
18:50But I also feel like
18:52The writer had a very clear idea
18:54Of what they were looking for
18:55For the Alpha Queen Returns
18:57And um
18:57I tried
18:58To my
18:59Darnedest
19:00You know
19:00You're shooting a lot of pages
19:02So many
19:02So many pages
19:03Like usually
19:04I just did a film
19:05Where we did
19:06Six pages a day
19:07Oh wow
19:08It was nothing
19:08You know
19:09So like
19:09Talk about a training ground
19:11Right
19:12For amazing talent
19:13That you're gonna see
19:14Up and coming
19:14Yeah
19:15We're doing
19:16Like 16 pages
19:18Okay
19:19A day
19:20At least
19:21You know
19:21And film
19:23You're doing half of that
19:24Yeah
19:24Okay
19:25Less than half of that
19:26So
19:26Totally different world
19:28It's like soap operas
19:29It's literally
19:30Which would terrorize me
19:33Uh huh
19:33But for whatever reason
19:34These are like
19:36Shorter
19:36So I've been able to
19:38Gain my confidence
19:39In my
19:40Learning disability
19:41Or whatever it is
19:42To be like
19:43I can still do a minute
19:44I can
19:45And usually like
19:46I'll get mad sometimes
19:47Like
19:48The client
19:49Or
19:50Or what
19:51Again
19:52I'm projecting
19:52Everything onto them
19:54That's really me
19:56And I've started to learn to say
19:57It really has nothing to do with you
19:58I'm just frustrated
19:59I can't get the lines
20:00I want to do my best work
20:03And sometimes
20:04I'll have to say
20:05I know you want me to say that
20:07But like
20:07I would never say that
20:08And it's really throwing me
20:09Out of the character
20:10I need to say it like this
20:12Is this okay
20:12Uh huh
20:13And sometimes
20:13They'll say yes
20:14And sometimes
20:15They'll be like
20:15No
20:15We want you to say
20:16Exactly as it is
20:17So then it's about
20:19How do you
20:20Take something
20:21That you totally
20:21Don't believe in
20:22And make it sound real
20:23Uh huh
20:24So there's two ways
20:25To do that
20:25Yeah
20:25Part of the job
20:26Yeah
20:26You can either make it
20:28Try to sell it
20:30Or you can also
20:30Make it a comedy
20:31And sometimes
20:32I think the audience
20:34Sees that I
20:35Sometimes put comedy
20:37In there
20:37Even though it's
20:38Very dramatic
20:38Because I'm having fun
20:40Like
20:40Ha ha ha
20:41You want me to say this
20:42Oh my god
20:43I'll say it
20:44But really
20:45This is funny
20:45So verticals
20:47For you overall
20:47If you have to cap it off
20:48It sounded like
20:49It's a great training ground
20:51Totally
20:51It was very different
20:52But you are
20:53Custom to it now
20:54Your muscles are strong
20:56For it
20:56I'm getting stronger
20:58Getting stronger
20:59Am I
20:59I think the moment
21:01I say that I'm
21:02On top of it
21:03Is the moment
21:03That I have
21:04A humbling experience
21:05Which has happened
21:06And it's like
21:07Ha ha ha
21:08No
21:09Let me humble you
21:10Really quick
21:11Well
21:12That's how the universe works
21:14It's totally
21:14How the universe works
21:16What would be the roles
21:18That you would want
21:19To play next
21:21Because you were saying
21:22I think I would love
21:22To play more
21:24And I've gotten
21:24This feedback
21:25Is like
21:26Why is she not
21:27Playing more of
21:27Like the love interest
21:28It's almost like
21:29The audience
21:30Doesn't feel like
21:30Someone my age
21:31Can have
21:32Be in a love interest
21:33Without having
21:34Like gray hair
21:35And like
21:36I mean I have done
21:37Some of those
21:37On other platforms
21:38Yeah I was gonna say
21:39Yeah
21:39But it's like
21:39Do we not fall in love
21:41Do we not get divorced
21:43Do we not
21:44Because
21:45I mean I think
21:46At any age of life
21:47You know
21:48You can constantly
21:49Outgrow your partner
21:50You can constantly
21:51Be looking for love
21:52100%
21:53And so why
21:55Why haven't we done
21:56More
21:57Not children
21:58I mean I understand
21:59I think analytically
22:00Yeah it's market oriented
22:02We need a younger audience
22:03To be brought in
22:04But then
22:05Is there an audience
22:07And maybe there isn't
22:08So then that would be
22:09My question to
22:10The real short
22:11People that are watching
22:12Is like
22:13Would you even want
22:14To watch somebody
22:14My age fall in love
22:15Or would that be like weird
22:17Like
22:18Yeah I think
22:19I know
22:20That's definitely
22:20An age old question
22:21It applies to the
22:22Traditional world as well
22:23Like you know
22:24The younger
22:25The 18 to 24
22:27Are the
22:28Are the people
22:28Who have more time
22:29And money to go
22:30To the movie theaters
22:30Which is why
22:31A lot of the content
22:32Are catered to them
22:33And the
22:34More like
22:35Niche
22:35Indie films
22:36Are more
22:37That catered to
22:39Like older audiences
22:40They have to
22:41Work with a little
22:42Smaller budget
22:42Just because of
22:43The appetites
22:44Of the market
22:44But I do agree
22:46Like time is changing
22:47And you know
22:48The relationship status
22:49For this generation
22:50Is changing
22:51So you know
22:52They're definitely
22:52Watching the numbers
22:5324 7
22:54I can guarantee that
22:55So maybe they will
22:56Start changing
22:57And doing more
22:58I think
23:00We might have
23:02Met before right
23:02Yeah
23:03Well he casted me
23:04On
23:05Well
23:06Yeah a few projects
23:07Actually
23:08Just for CEO Queen
23:09Just the CEO Queen
23:10Yeah so
23:10I think
23:11I mean my version
23:11Is on CEO Queen
23:13I was casting it
23:14And then
23:15The producer came
23:16Straight out of bed
23:17We want Eli Jane
23:18For this role
23:20I was like
23:20Alright
23:21On it
23:22No problem
23:22I think I must have done
23:24In another life then
23:25Yeah but no
23:25I visited the set
23:26I saw you
23:27In passing
23:28You were having great fun
23:29I don't want to
23:30Drag down your process
23:31So I just
23:32You know
23:32Say hi
23:32In that case
23:33Let's watch
23:34Some of your
23:35Beautiful performances
23:36Shall we
23:37Mary Miller
23:41I don't do anything here
23:43But just play dead
23:44I gotta say
23:45You have perfect hair
23:46Laying on the house
23:47She did such a good job
23:48On my hair
23:49What are you thinking
23:50When you were laying there
23:51When the camera saw you
23:52Nothing
23:52I was just chilling
23:53You're chilling
23:54You don't have to like
23:55Try to control
23:56This whole day
23:57I hardly did anything
23:58Oh damn
23:58You deserve someone better
24:00See I'm trying to help her out
24:02Wait were you able to stand
24:03In the story
24:04I stand
24:05That's the miracle
24:06They're all great
24:08Still won't give up
24:08You did a really good job at this
24:10Thanks
24:10You think you're good enough
24:11To touch my sister
24:12Oh wow
24:13You're so desperate
24:14To find out who my daughter is
24:16You
24:17You'll find out soon enough
24:19And you
24:21You will see exactly
24:23What you threw away
24:25Oh
24:25Hey
24:26She stood
24:31Then I stand up
24:32And they shock everyone
24:33What color are my eyes
24:34Oh
24:35Thank you all
24:37For coming this evening
24:39During my absence
24:41I worked
24:41The hardest
24:43Most low-paying job
24:45I wanted to understand
24:47She seems more
24:48CEO
24:49This is all your fault
24:52Oh
24:52You started working with Ruth Schwartz
24:56Since 2014
24:562024 right?
24:58Yes
24:58How has life been different
24:59Since then?
25:00Wow
25:01I have a whole new life
25:03For the first time in my life
25:05I've been able to make a career
25:06Theatrically
25:07Okay
25:08Which is what I've always wanted
25:09So you're talking about
25:10A dream that's completely come true
25:12Wow
25:12That I mean
25:13I've been able to put my kid
25:14Through college
25:15But yeah
25:17I just
25:17I quit my day job
25:19And
25:19I'm working as an actress
25:22Full-time actress
25:24Theatrically
25:24I mean
25:25How awesome
25:26How has it changed my life?
25:27I mean pretty dramatically
25:29So thanks Real Short
25:30For showing up for me
25:31Do you have fans now?
25:33I do
25:34I do
25:34Do you get messages
25:35And DMs?
25:36I do
25:36Yes
25:37What are the current themes?
25:39Well now that I've done
25:40A few Real Shorts
25:41Right
25:42They are starting to chime in
25:43About the type of work
25:44That I'm doing
25:45Oh wow
25:45Which is really funny
25:46It's like you know
25:47Can't you just play something
25:48Where you're not crying
25:49All the time?
25:50Do you cry in the Alpha Queen?
25:53Well I cry for my daughter
25:54Oh okay
25:55But I do
25:56Do a lot of the tearjerkers
25:58Yeah
25:58So I only see the tearjerkers
26:01Which is really funny
26:03That I have such a
26:04Wide range of audiences
26:06So I go from the tearjerkers
26:08To the ones that are
26:09Heavily stunt oriented
26:11And I'm like
26:11Beating people up
26:13That are also very male driven
26:15A lot of my audience
26:16Is also males
26:17I'm a bit of a tomboy
26:19So
26:19I love my men
26:21So
26:21That's awesome
26:22Yeah
26:22I mean I've had a lot of
26:24Great men in my life
26:24So
26:25Wow
26:26You do have a very wide range
26:27I have to say
26:28After looking at your stuff
26:29Like you can
26:30Walk so many genres
26:31So
26:32Which is funny
26:34Leading women
26:34Well I thought I could never cry
26:36Wow
26:37Speaking of
26:38Song of Mother's Tear
26:40The first episode
26:41When you were
26:43Talking about the violin
26:44That felt very genuine
26:46Yeah
26:46That was very authentic
26:47Can you please
26:48Just take another look
26:49At this violin
26:50Yeah
26:50I don't know if you remember
26:51That song
26:52Yeah of course
26:52Next question I have
26:54Is
26:55As actors
26:57We kind of go through
26:58Phases of our careers
26:59Because we also groan
27:02And you know
27:03What do you think
27:05About your current phase
27:06And I guess
27:07We have already talked
27:08A little bit about
27:09Your wish
27:09And what do you want
27:10What you want to do next
27:12But if there's
27:13Any more thoughts
27:14About your current phase
27:15Feel free to share
27:17One of the things
27:18One of the things
27:18That I love about Real Short
27:19Is that I get to play
27:20A lot of different characters
27:21Because there's so much
27:22Content being created
27:23And so
27:24I just don't want
27:25To get stuck
27:26Okay
27:26Like I don't want
27:27To get stuck
27:28In being
27:29Just the mom
27:30Or just the crying mom
27:32That loses her kid
27:33Right
27:33Or I want to play
27:35All different types
27:36Of things
27:36And I feel like
27:37Real Short is actually
27:38Really good at that
27:39Honestly
27:40It just
27:41It's an inherent
27:43Advantage that
27:44The volume of content
27:45They're putting out
27:46The diversification
27:47Is just
27:48Built in
27:48Or there's a higher
27:49Need for it
27:50So
27:51Okay
27:53Now it's game time
27:54Let's play a game
27:55Called
27:55Fan
27:56Or There
27:57This is just like
27:58Truth or There
27:59But instead of
27:59Truth questions
28:00We'll use questions
28:01From you guys
28:02The fans
28:03Let me fish out
28:04My buckets
28:05Games
28:07Alright
28:08You pick
28:09Okay
28:10Let's see
28:12Let me read it out
28:15Okay
28:15So
28:16Fan question
28:17You've got your dream role
28:18Who would you pick
28:19As your cast
28:20Angelina Jolie
28:21Oh
28:22Damn
28:23You know what
28:24I see you guys
28:25Being sisters
28:26Oh she's such a badass
28:28You guys are both badasses
28:30She doesn't
28:30You know
28:31She does her own thing
28:32She's a badass
28:34Okay
28:35Next
28:35Alright
28:38This is a dare
28:39Draw a quick self-portrait
28:41With your eyes closed
28:43Oh my god
28:45Let's do
28:4720 seconds
28:48So we can get
28:49At least some
28:50Features on your face
28:51Close your eyes
28:52Please
28:52Kindly
28:5320
28:5419
28:5518
28:5617
28:57This is really hard
28:5817
28:59I can't see
29:0015
29:0114
29:02You're doing great
29:0312
29:04I'm making eyelashes
29:0510
29:06Yeah
29:07At the wrong place
29:08Come on
29:095
29:10It's Picasso
29:114
29:112
29:121
29:131
29:14I did it
29:16It's a phase
29:17Pretty good
29:18It's pretty good
29:18Okay
29:19If you have to caption this
29:20What would you say
29:21As your Instagram post
29:24Cabbage patch dog
29:26There
29:26Reenact a line
29:27From one of your shows
29:29But as if you are
29:30In a telenovela
29:31Give us the context
29:33Of the scene
29:33And that line
29:34Just know
29:35That whatever happens
29:37You are meant
29:40To be on this planet
29:41Iceberg
29:43Oscar
29:48Was that
29:49That was good
29:50Was that
29:51I love you telenovela
29:52Another there
29:54Now you're the host
29:55For one question
29:56Okay
29:57One only
29:58Ask me anything
29:59Be gentle
30:01What are you insecure of
30:03Second episode
30:04Alright
30:05Next time
30:07Great
30:09Thank you so much
30:11Wait you didn't answer
30:11The question
30:12What question
30:13What is
30:14Some of your insecurities
30:15I just told you mine
30:16Oh
30:17I mean like
30:17Guys all
30:18Worry about their
30:19Penis sizes
30:20Oh my god
30:21And that's something
30:22That I have to come
30:23To terms with
30:24Under
30:24That's under
30:25Well
30:26You don't see it
30:27But there's also
30:29You sort of
30:30Can gauge it
30:30From other
30:31Physical traits
30:32From a man
30:32Wow
30:34I
30:34I don't know
30:36If you're
30:36Playing dumb
30:37Or
30:37But for me
30:38I'm
30:39I can sort of
30:40Eyeball it
30:41A little bit
30:41No I can't
30:42I could never know
30:43You never know
30:44No I never know
30:44Come on
30:45Okay
30:46I mean I think
30:46Like the personality
30:47Maybe
30:47It could be like
30:48Oh well maybe
30:49Personality type
30:49Okay maybe
30:51Yeah because
30:51But I would never know
30:53That till I like
30:54Okay anyways
30:55Back to
30:56Guys
30:56He's serious
30:57I can't tell if he's serious
30:58Right
30:59Hey
30:59He's joking
31:00You guys
31:01You have to
31:02Help me
31:03What is he joking
31:03Is this for real
31:04I love you
31:06Thank you
31:07No I'm for real
31:08Like come on
31:09We have of course
31:10It's the same thing
31:11So we worry about that too
31:12And then for me
31:13I also have to come to my sense
31:14Come to terms
31:15And grow as a person
31:16So now I'm just
31:18You know
31:18Come to terms with it
31:19I just
31:20Have a small penis
31:21That was a joke
31:23He's joking
31:24I didn't know it first
31:26I'm gullible
31:27I'm so gullible
31:29Okay wait
31:30Anyways
31:31Okay so what are some of the things
31:32That you've overcome
31:33Okay I mean
31:34Accent
31:35That's a big thing
31:36I'm Chinese
31:36I was born in China
31:37Mandarin was my first language
31:39We learned English
31:41Since primary school
31:42All the Chinese kids
31:43In my generation
31:44But we don't really speak it
31:45We know a little bit
31:46But not really
31:47So once I came here
31:49When I was 18 for college
31:50I wanted to start acting
31:51But I realized
31:52My accent was really
31:53Getting in the way
31:54For me
31:54Getting anything
31:55So I have to just
31:57Work really hard
31:58To overcome it
31:59And to this day
32:00I have
32:00That is still
32:01My biggest insecurities
32:02My accents
32:03My Chinese accents
32:04Coming out
32:05And that inhibiting me
32:06Getting some jobs
32:07That I
32:08I always go back to
32:09Maybe it was that
32:10That I didn't
32:11Or it was at least
32:12A contributing factor
32:13For me not getting a role
32:14So it's just something
32:17That I have to
32:17Continuously work on
32:19And get better at
32:19Another dare
32:22Act out a scene
32:23Together
32:23With me
32:24You are a dramatic movie star
32:26Laze is your overworked assistant
32:28Okay
32:29Boss
32:31We have an emergency
32:32One of your followers
32:33Has broken through the house
32:35And they have picked
32:36One of your dolls away
32:37Okay well
32:38Take care of it
32:38I'm busy
32:39What would you like me to do
32:41There are a couple measures
32:42We can do
32:42We can fire a rocket
32:43At their houses
32:44Or we can call the president
32:45I think that neither one of those options
32:47Are viable
32:48Why don't you think about
32:49Something more realistic
32:50Honey
32:50Sure
32:51That's totally my mistake
32:53I'm very sorry
32:54I will not disappoint you again
32:55Thank you
32:56I'll get to it
32:56And I'm gonna
32:57Talk to you later
32:58And let's talk about
32:59How creative your brain is
33:01Because I'm a little concerned
33:02If you should still be here
33:03Sure
33:03I can definitely be less creative
33:05Okay great
33:05I don't know where I went with that
33:09Yeah we don't know
33:10I'm sorry
33:10Fan question
33:11Okay
33:12What was your favorite
33:13Real short show
33:14To be in
33:16Um I think
33:17The Alpha Queen Returns
33:19Because it was such a challenge
33:20That was like my first
33:22Leading lady
33:22Of real shorts
33:24Um
33:25And it popped off
33:26Like a
33:26Yeah
33:28Thank you so much
33:31For coming to Eli
33:31It's a great pleasure
33:33Talking to you
33:33Um
33:34As a tradition
33:36We have to take a Polaroid selfie
33:37So
33:38Let's do it
