00:00Terry McLaurin, you should be in on him, period, period.
00:04You got the money.
00:05You got $60 million plus of cap space.
00:08You have been in on, guys.
00:09I brought up Ridley at the start of the show,
00:11joking about it with the Red Sox.
00:12Oh, almost got that done.
00:14You were in at, what, $27 million for that.
00:16You had a deal done, and the parameters were done.
00:19For Brandon Ayuk, you were going to send, what, a two and a four
00:24and Kendrick Bourne, and you're going to pay that guy $30 million?
00:28Now the age is there, 31 years old.
00:31Going to be 30.
00:32This guy has done nothing.
00:33This guy has done nothing to show you that he has slipped
00:37or age is a problem right now because you get him for a good three years
00:41and you get the production, he is very similar to Stephon Diggs
00:44as far as production.
00:46If you're interested in Diggs, you sure as hell should be interested in this guy,
00:49and this guy's not coming off an ACL.
00:51I know the age is there, but it's almost the perfect type receiver for you
00:57to go get to bolster this offense.
00:59You put him in a huddle with them?
01:01Oh, man.
01:02We're not talking to your 11 wins.
01:05I might move it from 9 to 11.
01:09I'll be with you at 11 if they get this guy.
01:12Now, you look at Tyree Kill.
01:15Tyree Kill is a different type of freak.
01:16He's a unicorn.
01:17He's over 30.
01:19Dolphins extended him.
01:20Extension north of 30 million a year for that guy.
01:23So, it has been done for aging receivers.
01:26I say aging.
01:28McCorn's got a lot of gas left in the tank.
01:29He's a player.
01:30And I like the fact that he stuck it out there.
01:33He was tough.
01:35He was productive through bad years for that team.
01:38And now he finally got to taste a little bit of success in winning.
01:41And now all of a sudden, you don't want to play ball with him?
01:43Because, what, he's old?
01:46Ask your quarterback what he thinks of him.
01:48Ask Jaden Daniels if he wants Terry McCorn to leave.
01:53Go get this guy.
01:53You should be in on him.
01:55I'm serious.
01:57Like, if you're serious about winning and getting back quickly,
02:01you've got Mike Frable.
02:03You've got the quarterback.
02:04You've got the staff now.
02:06You went and you paid $20 million for Carlton Davis,
02:09who hasn't even practiced yet.
02:10So, if you're in on him at $20 million,
02:12how are you not in on Terry McCorn for over 30?
02:14So, our own Alex Barth tweeting out in terms of what it would take
02:18to acquire Terry McCorn.
02:20Obviously, a new contract when he comes over here.
02:23But he says, I look at the DK Metcalf deal this offseason,
02:25the Diggs deal last offseason,
02:27and the reported Brandon Ayuk offer last year.
02:30Forgot about Metcalf.
02:31Good job, Barth.
02:32Probably a second, an early day three,
02:34maybe a future day three, and maybe a player.
02:37So, you're giving him Jalen Polk from here.
02:39Yes, a receiver, someone like that.
02:41Yeah, exactly.
02:42I do that deal yesterday.
02:43Go back and lose your second-round picks over the years.
02:46Would you give up those players for this guy and a contract?
02:49The answer is yes.
02:49So, we've been looking for a dynamic receiver for a long time.
02:52Here's the other thing that I think you have to factor in as well.
02:55What happened last year with Jaden Daniels?
02:58A young quarterback.
02:59This guy was the ultimate security blanket.
03:02Great team player.
03:03Helped him develop.
03:04I look at a Brandon Ayuk, certainly talented.
03:07But that's also a player that took his shorts off
03:10in the middle of practice last year
03:11because he wasn't happy with the situation that was going on.
03:14This guy, to me, fits the culture that Vrabel's trying to build,
03:17is going to help your young quarterback,
03:19everything you could possibly want.
03:20And I keep going back to it.
03:21You have $60 million.
03:22He's not a diva guy.
03:24He's not a diva guy.
03:24He's been with the team that drafted him.
03:26He outplayed his contract.
03:28The production is there.
03:30It's year to year.
03:31Six good years.
03:31I mean, come on.
03:33Ayuk.
03:34He's a better player than Ayuk.
03:35Definitely.
03:35You know why Ayuk's good?
03:36Because he's got a good coach, good quarterback,
03:38good running back, good tight end,
03:39other good receivers, and a good scheme.
03:43This guy's better than Ayuk.
03:44This would be a home run move for the Patriots.
03:47There's nothing for me to say.
03:48Well said, men.
03:50Beautifully said.
03:51I mean, it's absolutely something they should do.
03:53You know who's going to get him?
03:54I know who's going to get him.
03:55The Kansas City Chiefs.
03:57Team that's in your division.
03:58Nope.
03:58It's going to be the Chiefs.
03:59Buffalo.
04:00It'd be a great move for Buffalo.
04:02Great fit for Buffalo.
04:03If you're there with Josh Allen in your stadium
04:05that you've got coming in next year,
04:06gorgeous stadium, everything's new.
04:08Your team's right there at its pinnacle.
04:10Your window's now.
04:11You can't beat Kansas City.
04:13Everything you said is so true.
04:14They should absolutely.
04:15A two?
04:16A two and some other stuff?
04:18Please.
04:19Every second, all day long,
04:21I would give that up for this guy.
04:22The interest part of Vrabel has already been there
04:25for a premier receiver.
04:28You're interested in Ridley.
04:28You went after Ayuk.
04:32If Vrabel stood there this week and said,
04:33yeah, we'll discuss the guy from,
04:36we'll have a discussion about bringing him in.
04:38What's his name?
04:39Wilkins?
04:39Yep.
04:40Yeah.
04:40We'll have a discussion about bringing him in.
04:42He might get an honest answer from Mike
04:44next time he talks.
04:45But yeah, we're talking about everybody.
04:48We're not doing our job if we're not talking about
04:49a guy like Terry McLaurin.
04:51I think that's what you're going to get from him.
04:52I hope.
04:53I also think when you look at Drake May right now
04:55going into year two with him on the rookie deal,
04:58this is the opportunity where you can potentially even,
05:01even if you say the contract is an overpay
05:02for Terry McLaurin because he's about to turn 30 in September,
05:05this is the opportunity to do that right now.
05:07When you aren't paying your quarterback anything,
05:09you can go out and maybe spend a little bit more
05:12on that wide receiver and bring him in the fold,
05:14to your point.
05:14So I think it totally changes the dynamic of the offense
05:17if you bring this kid in.
05:18What about a two or four in Bourne?
05:19Give him the Auk deal.
05:22Start there.
05:23Yeah.
05:24You've got stable guys.
05:25I mean, you'd have a definitive number one wide receiver.
05:28Definitive.
05:28You know, and as much as we all like Diggs,
05:31this is a definitive number one.
05:33It would change the game.
05:34And then everybody else, you know how it works.
05:36He's a foundational piece.
05:37Everyone else gets better because of that.
05:39That would be something big.
05:40You talk about the weapons on this team.
05:41Like, look, I think they've upgraded in terms of wide receiver
05:43just by bringing in Diggs, right?
05:45Yes.
05:45But you're still talking about a back half wide receiver core
05:48right now going into this year.
05:49You had McLaurin.
05:50Isn't that a top 10 wide receiver group that you have
05:53going into this season?
05:55If you have McLaurin, Diggs, Pop Douglas,
05:58throw the tight ends in there as well.
05:59Those are like legit weapons there for Drake May
06:02coming into this year.
06:06Go get it done.
06:09Pivot.
06:10You want to bury the baseball team?
06:12Go get this done.
06:13Clear cut, though, if Terry McLaurin comes back.
06:16That is a legit number one receiver.
06:18A guy that's done it with a young quarterback last year,
06:21by the way.
06:21And I just think from a developmental standpoint,
06:24to have a guy like that who also isn't a diva receiver
06:27is a huge bonus as well.
06:29The only problem is how many guys have we seen in the past few years
06:32who have requested a trade?
06:34I feel like they're never trading.
06:36So I'm glad you brought this up because Adam Schefter did tweet that out as well
06:39because this is not the first time, surprise, surprise,
06:42a receiver has asked for a trade.
06:44And you've been involved in terms of kicking the tires
06:48on a couple of these guys.
06:49As he says, over the past two years, at least three wide receivers
06:52have requested deals.
06:53T. Higgins, Debo Samuel, Brandon Ayuk.
06:56None were traded in the year which they made the request.
07:00Debo Samuel obviously got dealt after that.
07:02Ayuk coming back from the knee injury.
07:04T. Higgins got the new deal in Cincinnati.
07:07Now McLaurin is added to the list.
07:08I thought T. Higgins was going to get dealt.
07:10I did.
07:11I'm surprised he went back to Cincinnati because it's a crap organization.
07:13They don't like to pay guys, especially with having to pay Chase.
07:16I'm surprised they paid both guys.
07:18I just think if Washington is taking a stance like this with Terry McLaurin
07:21coming off of the year that they had, though, it's an opportunity there
07:24where if you kind of knock down the door in terms of your offer,
07:28maybe they do actually bite at this thing.
07:30What are you doing if you're Washington?
07:31Yeah, it makes no sense to me.
07:33You're doing this.
07:33You just finally, after years of horrific teams and ownership,
07:38you've got this quarterback.
07:40He's supported.
07:41You get to the championship game, and you're playing hardball with his best toy.
07:45What are you doing?
07:46Crazy.
07:47You go on the road.
07:47You pop Detroit.
07:49Yeah.
07:49I called that one.
07:51And then you split with Philly last year.
07:54That's a team that won the Super Bowl.
07:55Like, you're there with them.
07:56And who's behind Terry McLaurin on that team?
07:58Debo Samuel, K.J. Osborne, former Patriot great,
08:02Michael Gallup, Jacoby Jones, Tay Martin, Jalen Lane, Noah Brown,
08:08Ja'Cory Brooks.
08:09No.
08:09Who's behind them?
08:10An overweight Debo Samuel and about nothing else.
08:13Yeah, and K.J. Osborne, which did not exactly work out well here last year.
08:17He sucks.
08:17I mean, wasn't that kid Brown okay for them?
08:21Yeah.
08:21But, again, probably because you had the number one.
08:24I was just saying it helps when you have a number one receiver
08:26like Terry McLaurin there as well.
08:27Look at all the highlights from last year, the big games they were in.
08:29How about the one, the third down throw against Cincinnati?
08:32On Monday Night Football, just a dime in the back of the end zone.
08:35How about the catch and run against Detroit?
08:37Like, McLaurin's that guy.
08:38Yeah.
08:40Chris is in Worcester.
08:41Chris, what's up?
08:42Hey, guys.
08:43I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I just see this as posturing.
08:47I mean, it's...
08:48And McLaurin started to play ball.
08:51He showed up at camp.
08:52He's not getting fined 50,000 a day.
08:53They put him on the ankle injury thing.
08:55So they're trying to help him.
08:57And then something happened to get to this point where now I'm asking for a trade.
09:01They haven't bunched.
09:03I know.
09:03And also, I just want to ask you guys, when did turning 30 at the start of a season make
09:08you old, too?
09:09Running backs and receivers have been that way for a long time in this league.
09:12Moss was 30 when they got him.
09:14Yeah.
09:15I mean, I think it's worse for running backs.
09:17It is.
09:18And Moss gave you three good years.
09:19Yeah.
09:21Mike is in New Hampshire.
09:22Mike.
09:22Hey, guys.
09:24Thanks for taking my call.
09:25Listen, it's okay to dream, but we know Kraft is not going to spend the money.
09:29The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
09:33Just like Henry's not going to spend the money.
09:35Just like Bill Chisholm and his private equity group's not going to spend the money.
09:38The most honest owner in Boston is Jeremy Jacobs and the Bruins, because he doesn't pretend
09:43to be anybody else.
09:44It's scary, but that's where we're at as Boston fans.
09:47It would do wonders for Kraft.
09:50It would.
09:51From the side of public opinion.
09:54Because a lot of people feel the way that he feels, the caller.
09:58Like, well, why were you in on those other guys then?
10:02If you're in on those other guys, you should be in on this guy.
10:04Especially with your cap space.
10:05It's not like you have, well, we only have 15 million in cap space.
10:07No, no.
10:08You got plenty of it.
10:09And I'll tell you what, I'm not going to say.
10:10That gets you back.
10:10Like, you want to get back quick?
10:11You get back.
10:12I'm not going to obviously speak for Robert Kraft, but I do think it would be, if I were him,
10:17I'd be interested in stamping home my legacy by making sure that Drake May was a hit and
10:23that this team was back up and running.
10:25Maybe not winning Super Bowls, but back up and running.
10:27But you're a player in the AFC.
10:28A player in the AFC once again.
10:30And then, you know, if you give control to Jonathan or whatever happens, then you're back
10:35and you've reestablished post-Tom Brady that the team was still in good standing.
10:39You know what?
10:39You're not Cincinnati, where you're paying Joe Burrow $60 million.
10:42Now you've got to pay Chase and Higgins $30 million each.
10:45Your quarterback's on a rookie deal.
10:46Yeah.
10:47Now's the time to strike.
10:48This is the opportunity.
10:49Now is the time to strike.
10:51It's the benefit of having a rookie.
10:52If you think that you hit on a young quarterback and he's on that contract, this is the benefit
10:56that you have.
10:57You can go out and you're overspending.
10:57Give Josh McDaniels, Terry McLaurin.
10:59Yeah.
10:59With Diggs.
11:00I mean, come on.
11:01Oh.
11:01And a tight end in Hunter Henry.
11:03And a third down back.
11:04It runs a 4-3.
11:04Yeah.
11:05And a lighter, more faster, more serious from Andre Stevenson.
11:08Let's go.
11:09Let's go, man.
11:10Yeah.
11:11Peter's in East Boston.
11:12Peter.
11:13Guys, thanks for taking my call.
11:14How are you?
11:15Good.
11:15Great show.
11:17Zoe, I see you parking your car in front of Aiden Louise, by the way.
11:20Oh, thanks.
11:21Yeah.
11:21Great spot.
11:23All right.
11:24You guys take good care of it.
11:25I appreciate it.
11:26Yeah, of course.
11:27Talk about McLaurin.
11:30I don't think Washington's going to be giving him up.
11:34But even if we were able to get him, I'm excited about this Patriots team.
11:38I'm excited about the young receivers we have.
11:41I know Polk had a tough year last year.
11:43I don't think we should give up on him yet.
11:45I think he has the potential to be a quality receiver.
11:48But I'm excited about Diggs and the leadership he's going to bring in.
11:53I just don't know if they'd be able to pull it off, even if they could.
11:57I think Kraft wants the win now.
12:00He didn't get any younger.
12:01But I wouldn't be mad if they just gelled with the way they are.
12:05Like, don't give up too many picks.
12:07I like the receivers they have.
12:09I know I might sound crazy, but I believe in these young kids.
12:13I don't believe in Jalen Polk.
12:14I don't think he's going to make it.
12:15He's gone.
12:16Yeah.
12:17I don't think he's going to.
12:17I like what they have right now, too.
12:19But I would love if they brought in Terry McClay.
12:22And again, definitive number one.
12:24That's a game changer.
12:25Yeah, like the results of Polk just physically in the production.
12:29You shouldn't like that.
12:29Like, the defiant attitude bugs me more.
12:32Yeah, I don't worry about that.
12:34You know, I'm turning the page.
12:35I was in when I was out.
12:37That was a touchdown.
12:38You guys are crazy.
12:39No, it wasn't.
12:40Let's get some rules.
12:41Sorry.
12:42How much would a Terry McLaurin help with the development of Drake May?
12:46How much easier is his life if his receivers are Diggs and Terry McLaurin
12:50versus what it would be right now?
12:51It's a good question because then you're basing more on coverage than you are front
12:55when you're a defense coordinator and you're trying to defend them.
12:58Because now we've got serious weapons on the outside we've got to worry about.
13:01And we can't bring that secondary pressure.
13:02We can't bring slot corner.
13:04We've got to cover.
13:05So now you've let – it helps your front out.
13:09It helps your – it helps Will Campbell out because now we're not bringing two guys
13:12where we've got to slide and pick them up because now we're only blocking one-on-one,
13:16which is good.
13:17It helps everybody out.
13:17Let's go to Frank in Marshfield.
13:23Frank.
13:23Hey, what's up, guys?
13:26What's up, Joe?
13:27Hey.
13:27What's up?
13:28Between the Red Sox and the Patriots, you know, we're not getting Terry McLaurin, right?
13:34One of you guys said it.
13:35We're a kick-the-tires-on-guys kind of a city now.
13:38Where we used to be – we used to land those big free agents at the trade deadline or the trades at the trade deadline or make a trade.
13:46It costs money.
13:47It takes a little sack.
13:49And none of these owners around this town anymore have that.
13:52It's expensive.
13:53I mean, it's clear the Red Sox certainly don't – I still – call me naive, Zoe.
14:00I still think that the Patriots, if given the opportunity, would bring him in.
14:03Well, it's the spot you're in, too.
14:05You want to be back.
14:06You want to be back or don't you want to be back?
14:08Or is it all just nonsense?
14:10We talk about, like, the sense of urgency when it comes to ownership, and I spent a lot of time yesterday talking about, I think,
14:14one of the issues with Craig Breslow and the way that they went about this deadline was there wasn't a sense of urgency
14:19from the owner who has not been in the postseason since 2021, and you would think in that spot right there
14:27an owner would kind of say, hey, you know what?
14:29Let's kind of put the pedal to the metal.
14:30I look at the Patriots and everything that's gone over the last few years.
14:33I do feel like there is a sense of urgency in terms of trying to come back and be a relevant franchise.
14:38It hasn't gone well post-Brady.
14:40Everyone knows that.
14:41But in some of the decisive decisions that they've made, it feels like they do want to be players again.
14:47I don't get that sense from John Henry.
14:50I don't.
14:51Yeah.
14:52You know, and real quick here on McLaurin, what do they want in return?
14:56They want draft picks?
14:57So they want a two and a four?
14:59Do you want a receiver?
15:01Like, you say, okay, put Bourne in that package.
15:04He's sort of like the mix of the other guys that they have.
15:07You know, throw him in with the Deebo Samuels and that, but at least give him a player.
15:10Are they looking for collateral as far as picks, or do they want player?
15:14Do they need a player?
15:15Do they need a receiver?
15:16Do they need a corner?
15:17Or do they need a – is there something you could give them?
15:19Does that change the dynamic for you with that – if it's a two or four and Kendrick Bourne,
15:24are you out on that?
15:25Say it's like, hey, we need safety badly.
15:27Would you give Duggar up?
15:28Like, I'm just spitballing stuff here.
15:31Yeah.
15:31I'm not saying, like, hey, Duggar's tradable.
15:33But, like, it's not just about just giving them a receiver.
15:36Like, it could be something else that they're looking for.
15:38I'd do it.
15:38Get in on it, man.
15:39I'd do it.
15:40Yeah.
15:40I like Duggar.
15:41I like Duggar.
15:41I'd give him up.
15:42If it's the number one receiver you're talking about, and a guy like that, a guy that has the
15:46the makeup of Terry McLaurin and a proven track record, he's mature, he's a grown-up, I would
15:51do it.
15:53Joe is in the car.
15:54Joe.
15:54Good morning, guys.
15:57I know this makes great radio talk, but we've got to ask ourselves, you think that cheapo
16:04Bob Kraft is going to spend $30 million a year receiver for McLaurin?
16:10Do we really think that's going to happen?
16:12Come on, guys.
16:13This is not going to happen.
16:14This is just...
16:15Why do you say that if they approve the trade for Ayuk at that number?
16:18Who is Ayuk?
16:21Here's the other thing, Zolag.
16:23Who is Ayuk?
16:24I mean, everybody talks...
16:26I agree with you.
16:27If you've heard me, I don't view him as a number one.
16:30I'd rather have Ridley than Ayuk.
16:33I think Ayuk's a piece out there.
16:35I thought Devo was the number one guy out there.
16:37Now, I know he's heavier now, but this guy's better than Ayuk.
16:41That's why you should be in on him, if you're in on Ayuk.
16:43Just based on who you were in on.
16:46That's what I'm going off.
16:47The odds are in, in terms of Terry McLaurin's next team,
16:49if he does get dealt Patriots right now, only behind the Raiders.
16:54So they come in at second.
16:55Second-best odds to land Terry McLaurin.
16:59You want to get him for Geno Smith, or you want to get him for Drake May?
