Q of day from Curtis - "Has Robert Kraft's treatment of Bill Belichick impacted your relationship with the #Patriots as a fan?" #NFL
Transcript
00:00I got a float to me.
00:01So is that what they're calling swag now?
00:03Yeah, I guess so.
00:05Who knew Drake may have a float to him?
00:06Different type of float.
00:07I'm happy to hear that.
00:09And time for the Curtis Camp query of the day.
00:13Curtis, what is it today?
00:15On the heels of the sound, we heard from Kay Adams and Robert Kraft.
00:17And just a quick aside, it would be beneficial to the people that cover you on a day-to-day basis
00:22to become available for them and not just people that fly in for a day.
00:25But that's neither here nor there.
00:26Has Robert Kraft's treatment of Bill Belichick impacted your relationship with the Patriots as a fan?
00:34And I ask this because I work with several people, Greg most notably,
00:39that has genuinely been bothered by the manner in which Kraft has attempted to rewrite history
00:46after the departure of Bill Belichick.
00:48It's unseemly to me.
00:50Yeah, so I'm just curious.
00:51Unnecessary and unseemly.
00:52I think both are exactly right because it was always going to be viewed as the Trinity.
00:58Yeah.
00:58They were always going to be together.
01:00And then as what often happens in these cases is the divorce is ugly and everybody tries to get their own side.
01:09But to me, of all three, the behavior and the dismissal of Kraft to Bill has been unseemly.
01:16Yeah, I mean, prior to the dynasty, I felt like it was handled the right way.
01:24And you said it, Curtis.
01:26In general, people who look at these kinds of things have divided the credit up between the three of them.
01:34And so I don't know why some have felt the need to try to get more credit.
01:42It doesn't necessarily affect my relationship that I would have with the, like, how I feel about the franchise.
01:49Right.
01:50But it bothers me because it's just, it's childish, kind of.
01:55It's affected mine, for sure.
01:57Oh, really?
01:57But I respect Robert Kraft.
01:59I think he's one of the most brilliant businessmen out there.
02:02And what he does, whether it's Israel or within the Boston community, is unbelievable.
02:06Like, I think the Krafts are awesome.
02:08But how they dealt with this situation in particular, especially during a time when Bill Belichick and Tom Brady seem to have really repaired their relationship and become more chummy.
02:20And the way those two speak about each other so glowingly in that time that they spent together in New England was so special for them.
02:27To have Robert Kraft kind of on the outside now, being the one that's going after Bill over and over again for no reason, to me, makes me feel off.
02:37It doesn't bother me one bit about the way I view the Patriots.
02:41I still want to see them be successful.
02:42I still want to see them win.
02:43We all want to see them be successful.
02:45But that was the question.
02:47Wasn't that the question on how I view the Patriots now?
02:50I think the way they handled it was all, it was egos getting in the way, you know, and everybody.
02:56Did you include Bill in that?
02:57Yeah.
02:58And I think everybody wants.
02:59Because you don't think Bill should respond.
03:01Like when Robert Kraft says that he took a risk on Bill Belichick, you don't think Bill should reach out and make sure that he gets to state his piece on that?
03:11No, no, no.
03:11I don't mind him.
03:12Oh, state your piece, rejoin.
03:14Hootie, please.
03:15I don't mind him, you know, stating his piece.
03:18Like if somebody throws shots at you, I don't mind you throwing shots back at them.
03:21I just think that, you know, that's what it became, right?
03:24It became, you know, Bill throwing little subliminal shots at, you know, we were like the 31st team when it came to spending or whatever he said.
03:35I don't remember exactly.
03:37That was while he was still employed.
03:38Yeah, while he was still employed, right?
03:40So it's all about them taking shots and egos.
03:42And we know how it is.
03:43That's just human nature.
03:44Sure, everybody wants credit, but everybody wants to be viewed as, oh, I get a little bit more credit than everybody else when it comes to us being successful.
03:56But Tom doesn't do that, though.
04:00You don't think so?
04:02I mean, he throws his little petty dicks when he says, I don't get that vibe from him at all.
04:08Me neither.
04:08Oh, so when the guy goes, you know what, the coaches do a good job, but at the end of the day, it's really about the players on the football field.
04:19That's not a little like what he was doing, the broadcasting, and I forget who he was talking about.
04:25You remember he said that?
04:27It just doesn't seem like he wants to take a shot at Bill Belichick for the success.
04:30The way in which, whether it was on his podcast that he did for a bit with, I'm blanking on his name right now, Jim Gray, or when he was on Howard Stern even, the way in which he gets choked up when talking about his time with Bill Belichick, that's how it should be.
04:47To do an entire series, and the crafts can say all they want, that they had nothing to do with the editing or the final cut, it just did not put them in a good way.
04:55I think Belichick says something similar.
04:59He's like, we can lose the game, but the players win it.
05:02He said that like a thousand times.
05:03No, I don't think Tom Petty, Tom, I was going to say Tom Petty, Tom Brady has not been petty in the least.
05:08I mean, he just throws his little digs.
05:09I completely disagree with you.
05:12Well, you could disagree, but they're out there.
05:13Yeah.
05:14I mean, he doesn't just say like, I get it is about the players, but the coaches.
05:20But if you're confident in what you bring to an organization, then you know people see it and understand it, and you don't need to run around with a loudspeaker projecting it to everybody.
05:33That to me is the issue.
05:35Tom Brady knows what his value was, what he's responsible for, and he doesn't feel the need to go around telling everybody.
05:42No, no, I'm not saying that like he's out front Petty, but the fact that you throw like there's always little shades of things that guys do, and that's just part of it.
05:54We talked about some of the things where Tom said back in the day.
05:59It's when Bill goes, hey, I want you to be like everybody else, and I don't want you to have Alex Guerrero having his own thing going on.
06:12And I think it's just, I think those three guys have such big egos, and rightfully so, because they have accomplished so much in their careers.
06:19Bill hated when he had close people work for him, unlike the kids that worked on Bill's staff.
06:24Right, but that's another part of it, right?
06:26That becomes part of Bill's ego, right?
06:29That would be hypocritical.
06:31Right, but they all have it, and that's the problem.
06:34None of them have winning without Tom, and that's a fact.
06:36But Tom's not here without Bill.
06:38Well, you never know.
06:40No, we do know.
06:41No, who is the guy that passed away?
06:43Rabine.
06:43Yeah, but guess what?
06:44If Bill doesn't say midway through that 2001 season, if Bill doesn't go, I'm going with Tom Brady as my quarterback.
06:53Over Drew Bledsoe.
06:54Over Drew.
06:55Well, you guys think you win a Super Bowl with Drew.
06:58We do, but we might not know.
07:00Well, we did.
07:01I did.
07:01Me and Ty Law.
07:02I did, too.
07:02Me and Ty Law did, right?
07:04But we might.
07:04Ty back on the show?
07:05Well, yes, this fall.
07:07Excellent.
07:08Right.
07:08Ty Tuesday's back on this show.
07:10We love you, Greg.
07:10You know you my dog.
07:11Ty's the man.
07:12It was Bill who chose to go with Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe, who had just got one of the highest contracts in the NFL,
07:22and that's what ultimately led Tom Brady to being in the position that he – and I'm not taking anything away from Tom.
07:29Don't get it twisted.
07:30But if you don't – like Bill Parcells.
07:32If Bill Parcells doesn't give me an opportunity, I might not be where I was in my NFL career.
07:38Do you think – just going back, and that's true, Wiggy.
07:41You know better than I would, and I'll take you at your word.
07:43But the Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick divorces, do you think that impacts – and I agree, Kraft should be in the Hall of Fame.
07:51I'm not debating that.
07:52But the voters, the 50 voters, do you think they view how the acrimony, the discord, the inability to maintain relationships with the two of the five best coaches in NFL history,
08:05with Parcells going to the Jets in a very ugly way, and then Belichick coming the way he left here.
08:11I don't know.
08:11No, because Jerry Jones is in the Hall of Fame, and look at his relationship with –
08:16Jimmy Johnson.
08:16With Jimmy Johnson.
08:17That's right.
08:18You know, so it's not like –
08:19I'm just trying to think of anything they would use.
08:21I don't know.
08:22Like, the thing I would say, I don't know what they could use.
08:26I just think that they're morons when it comes to people putting people in the Hall of Fame.
08:30Yeah.
08:30And you should just look at the guy and what he accomplished as a player on the field or as an owner, what his team accomplished.
08:37Okay, quick camp query of the day for me, because you just had me thinking about it.
08:42If Bill is successful this season, what percentage of the credit do you give to Jordan?
08:48I don't know.
08:49I give her, like, 95%.
08:50I mean, let's be honest.
08:52Oh, really?
08:52Yes.
08:53She's the main reason why – behind Bill.
08:55Let's be honest.
08:56I'm just waiting.
08:57Is she behind?
08:58Where is she positioned?
09:00I mean, when it comes to –
09:00Sometimes she's on his feet.
09:01Oh, Lord.
09:02Like in a mermaid costume.
09:03She's making sure that his – you know, that his carrots and corn are separated when it comes to, you know, soups.
09:08So it's blended.
09:09Yeah.
09:10We'll see how good she is for the UNC doc that's coming out any day.
09:13So, Courtney –
