00:00Puss in Boots, a Charles Perrault.
00:15Once upon a time, there was a poor man who was very old and very ill.
00:27He called his three sons to his bed and said,
00:30All my life I have been a miller, grinding wheat to make flour and carrying it to market to sell.
00:37I am not rich, but I can give each of you a gift.
00:42I give my eldest son the mill.
00:46The eldest son was happy. It was a very good gift.
00:51And to my second son I give my new donkey.
00:56The second son was happy. He would work with his brother and the donkey would carry their sacks of flour to market.
01:03And to my youngest son, said the old man, I give my cat.
01:11The young man was sad. He knew his father loved him. Why had he given him nothing but a cat?
01:18What good is a cat? said the young man.
01:21A cat is the best thing in the world, said a voice.
01:26The miller's son looked around, surprised.
01:28Who's that? he asked.
01:30Me, said the cat. And I really am the best gift of all.
01:35How can you be? You're only a cat.
01:37A very clever cat, said Puss. Do as I tell you and you will be rich.
01:44What do you want me to do? asked the young man.
01:47Make me a hat, a jacket, some big leather boots and a large bag, said Puss.
01:54The young man was puzzled. But he did what Puss told him.
01:59Puss dressed himself. He put on the big leather boots, his jacket and his fine hat.
02:10He slung the bag over his shoulder.
02:13Goodbye, he said. Where are you going? asked the young man.
02:17You'll see, said Puss, and left.
02:20I know nothing will happen, said the miller's son when Puss had gone.
02:24What can a cat do?
02:27Puss picked a lettuce from the garden, put it in his bag and went off into the woods.
02:33He put the bag on the ground, wide open, lay down beside it and pretended to sleep.
02:40Soon a rabbit came along. He sniffed the air.
02:44There was a lettuce nearby. He smelled it.
02:47He saw it and jumped into the bag to get it.
02:50Puss sprang up, pulled the string and closed the bag.
02:54He carried the bag to the royal palace and asked to speak to the king.
03:00The king was with his daughter, who was the most beautiful princess in the world.
03:06Your majesty, said Puss to the king.
03:09I have brought you a nice big rabbit, a present from my master, the prince of Carabas.
03:15The prince of where? said the king.
03:19Carabas, said Puss. It's a small place.
03:23So small it is not even on the map.
03:25But it is very rich and so is my master.
03:29Never heard of it, said the king.
03:31But anything is possible.
03:38Every day, Puss caught a different bird or animal.
03:42A present from my master, the prince of Carabas, he told the king.
03:55You master must be a fine man to give me all these animals, said the king.
04:12Why not ask him to visit us?
04:29Puss knew that his master could not visit the king and his beautiful daughter.
04:34His clothes were much too warm and torn.
04:37One morning, he told his master, I want you to go for a swim.
04:43The young man was puzzled.
04:46But he went to the river, took off his clothes, jumped in and started to swim.
04:52Puss hid the clothes under a large rock.
04:56Just then, Puss heard the sound of horses' hooves and carriage wheels.
05:01The king and the princess were coming down the road in their carriage.
05:04Puss ran out in front of it and shouted,
05:07Help! Help! My master! The prince of Carabas has been robbed!
05:11They stole his clothes while he was swimming!
05:15King sent a servant to the palace to bring fine clothes for the cat's master.
05:20The fine clothes suited the young man.
05:23He looked like a handsome prince.
05:26The princess invited him to sit beside her in the carriage.
05:29Meanwhile, Puss had run down the road to a field where some farmers were working.
05:37Who does this land belong to? He asked them.
05:41To a giant ogre, said the farmers.
05:44He has magic powers and can change into any kind of animal.
05:48He frightens our children.
05:51He steals our food and makes us work like slaves.
05:57Puss thought for a moment.
06:00If I do something for you, will you do something for me? He asked the farmers.
06:05The king's carriage is on its way here.
06:08If he asks who all this land belongs to, say, the Prince of Carabas.
06:15And what will you do for us? asked the farmers.
06:18Kill the ogre, said Puss.
06:21Oh, he'll kill you first, warned the farmers.
06:25But Puss was on his way to the ogre's castle and did not hear them.
06:28The king's carriage came along the road and stopped by the farmers.
06:33Who does all this land belong to? asked the king.
06:37Our master, the Prince of Carabas, said the farmers.
06:42The king looked at the young man.
06:45I can see my daughter likes him, thought the king.
06:49And he has lots of land and servants.
06:52He might make a good husband for the princess.
06:56If only he had a castle.
06:59Puss walked bravely towards the ogre's castle.
07:03How could he kill an ogre who could change into any animal in the world?
07:09Puss went slowly into the castle.
07:19Who are you and what are you doing here? said a booming voice.
07:37Puss looked up and saw a gigantic ugly ogre.
07:42He shivered in his boots.
07:44I have heard that you can change yourself into any animal in the world.
07:52Said Puss in a frightened voice.
07:55That's true. I'll show you. said the ogre.
08:00And he changed himself into a lion.
08:07Puss jumped onto the table in fright.
08:09Change back, please, he called.
08:11The ogre changed back, and Puss came out of his hiding place.
08:16It's not so hard to change into a large animal, he said.
08:20But I don't think you could change yourself into a small one.
08:24Of course I can, said the ogre.
08:28As small as a mouse, impossible.
08:32Impossible, roared the ogre.
08:34Watch.
08:35And he changed himself into a tiny squeaking mouse.
08:42This was just what Puss wanted.
08:45He pounced on the mouse and gobbled it up.
08:51Soon afterwards, the king's carriage arrived at the castle.
08:53Puss was waiting outside.
08:56There's your servant, said the king.
08:59And this is my master's castle, said Puss.
09:03The castle of the Prince of Carabas.
09:07The king was astonished at the beautiful castle.
09:12The young man who owns this castle can certainly marry my daughter, he thought.
09:18And so the miller's son and princess were married.
09:23And at the wedding, the happiest guest of all was Puss in Moots.
09:28The Ugly Duckling by Hans Andersen.
09:58It was so beautiful in the country.
10:06It was summer.
10:08Among the tall dark reeds, a duck was sitting on her nest, waiting for the eggs to hatch.
10:20At last, she heard a crack.
10:24Cheep, cheep!
10:26One baby duckling had hatched.
10:29Cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep!
10:32Out of the eggs, one after another, came four pretty little ducklings.
10:37They stared at the wide, wide world around them.
10:41The mother duck looked down at her nest.
10:44Oh no, she said.
10:46The biggest egg is still there.
10:48How much longer will it take?
10:51And she sat down again.
10:54At last, the big egg cracked open.
11:01Cheep!
11:03The baby bird tumbled out.
11:05But it did not look like the others.
11:08It was big and ugly.
11:10It's awfully big, said the mother duck.
11:15I wonder if it's really a turkey chick.
11:18Well, tomorrow I will try something and see.
11:21The next day, she took her ducklings to the water.
11:25Turkey chicks can't swim, she said.
11:28If the big one isn't a duckling, we'll soon find out.
11:31Quick, quick, she called to the ducklings.
11:34In you go!
11:35The first duckling jumped into the water.
11:38Then the second, the third, and the fourth.
11:42Only the big one was left.
11:46Come on, in you go, said the mother duck.
11:50The big one jumped into the water.
11:53It went under.
11:55Then it came up again and swam.
11:57He's no turkey chick, said the mother duck.
12:01Look how well he swims.
12:03He is my child.
12:05If only he weren't so ugly.
12:07He's too big, said the other birds in the farmyard.
12:13And he's the wrong colours.
12:15He's not like us at all.
12:17They picked him and chased him.
12:20And even the girl who brought their food tried to kick him.
12:23So the poor little duckling ran away.
12:26He flapped his wings and flew over the fence.
12:28Outside was a dark green forest.
12:33The duckling walked through the forest all night.
12:45In the morning, he came to a marsh where wild ducks lived.
12:49Two of them came over to look at him.
12:52What sort of bird are you? they asked.
12:55You're so ugly.
12:56But before he could answer.
12:59Bang! Bang!
13:01Two shots rang out.
13:03The two wild ducks flew up into the air.
13:05Bang! Bang!
13:07There were more shots and the wild ducks fell from the air.
13:11In the reeds were hunters with guns.
13:14The ugly duckling kept very still.
13:16Then hunting dogs came into the marsh.
13:19The duckling was terrified and put his head under his wing.
13:23Suddenly a ferocious dog stood right next to him.
13:27Its tongue hung out of its mouth.
13:30Its sharp teeth gleamed hungrily.
13:33It came closer.
13:36Closer.
13:38Then it turned its head and off it went.
13:41I'm so ugly, thought the duckling, that even the dog doesn't want to bite me.
13:49He lay there quietly while gun after gun was fired.
13:53At last the hunters and dogs went away.
13:57But the poor frightened duckling waited until evening.
14:01Then ran far away from the marsh.
14:04Late that night the duckling came upon an old tumble down hut.
14:19He could see a fire burning inside.
14:22And sitting in front of it an old woman, a cat and a head.
14:26The front door hung crookedly from one hinge.
14:30And the duckling squeezed his way into the hut through a crack.
14:35What's this? said the old woman when she saw him.
14:40It's so ugly.
14:42Well, well, come in for a while and get warm.
14:45But the cat and the hen didn't want the duckling in the house.
14:50What good are you? said the cat.
14:54Can you arch your back and purr when the old woman strokes you?
14:59Can you lay eggs? asked the hen.
15:03I can swim, said the duckling.
15:06Who wants to swim? said the cat.
15:10Well, get out.
15:11So the ugly duckling went out into the forest where he stayed all alone.
15:20Autumn came.
15:22The leaves in the forest turned yellow, then brown.
15:26Winter was on its way.
15:29One evening, just as the sun was going down,
15:32a flock of beautiful white birds flew out of the rushes and up into the sky.
15:38They were swans.
15:41They were flying to a land of warm sunshine and unfrozen lakes,
15:46where they would stay all winter.
15:48They were the most beautiful birds the ugly duckling had ever seen.
15:54He did not know what those birds were, but he loved them,
15:59as he had never loved anything before.
16:01Winter grew colder.
16:09The ice on the lake began to freeze.
16:12Every night the hole which the ugly duckling had made for himself became smaller and smaller as the ice closed in.
16:18At last the ice froze around him and held him fast.
16:27Early next morning a farmer saw him.
16:30He smashed the ice with his boot and took the duckling home.
16:34When the duckling woke, he saw the farmer's children looking at him.
16:37Let's play with him, they said.
16:42The duckling was frightened.
16:44He flew up and into the milk pail.
16:46The farmer's wife screamed.
16:48The children tried to catch the duckling.
16:52He flew down into the butter tub,
16:54then into the flour barrel.
16:56What a mess he made!
16:58The farmer's wife struck at him with the fire tongs.
17:00The duckling flew out of the house.
17:12Then he made his way into the woods,
17:15where he stayed through the whole cold winter.
17:18In the spring, the sun began to shine again.
17:29Everything was fresh and green.
17:33The ugly duckling flew up into the sky.
17:38He looked down and saw three swans swimming on the lake.
17:42How beautiful they are, he thought.
17:46I will fly over to them.
17:49They will peck me to death because I'm so ugly.
17:53But it's better to be killed by those beautiful birds
17:57than to live in a world that is so cruel.
18:00He landed on the lake beside the swans,
18:03bent his neck and said,
18:05Kill me!
18:07But then he saw his reflection in the water.
18:10He was no longer a clumsy, ugly grey duckling.
18:16He was a swan!
18:24The three swans swam around him
18:26and stroked him with their beaks.
18:28Some children came into the garden.
18:30There's a new one, they shouted,
18:32and he is the most beautiful of all.
18:36He ruffled his feathers happily.
18:38I never dreamt when I was an ugly duckling
18:43that one day I would be so beautiful.
18:46I never dreamt when I was an ugly duckling.
18:48One day I felt that they were beautiful.
18:49Rapunzel, from the Brothers Grimm
19:12Once upon a time, there lived a man and wife who longed to have a child
19:20One day, the wife said, I think our wish will come true
19:25They were both very happy
19:28At the back of their house was a little window
19:36Which looked down over a high wall onto a garden full of beautiful flowers and vegetables
19:44Through the garden ran a sparkling stream
19:47And in the stream, watercress grew
19:50Nobody dared go into the garden
19:53For it belonged to a cruel and wicked witch
19:57Day after day, the wife stared out of the little window at the watercress in the stream
20:03In that country, people called it Rapunzel
20:06It looks so fresh and green, thought the wife
20:10I must have some
20:12Please go into the garden and pick some Rapunzel for me to eat, she said to her husband
20:18I can't, said her husband
20:20The witch might catch me
20:22If I don't have some, I shall die, said the wife
20:27The husband loved his wife and did not want her to die
20:31So, that night, he climbed over the wall
20:35Down into the witch's garden
20:36And picked some Rapunzel for his wife
20:39It tasted so good that his wife wanted more
20:45If you don't get more of it for me, I shall die, she said
20:49So the next night, the husband climbed the wall once more
20:53But just as he was about to pick some watercress
20:56He looked up, the witch stood before him
21:00How dare you climb into my garden, she cried angrily
21:05And steal my Rapunzel
21:07Oh, please, said the man
21:09My wife is about to have a child
21:11She will die if she cannot have some
21:13If that is true, said the witch
21:16Then take as much as you want
21:19But you must promise that when the baby is born, you will give it to me
21:24If you don't, I shall kill you for stealing
21:27And the man was so frightened that he said he would do what the witch wanted
21:32Sometime later, a beautiful child was born to the man and his wife
21:40Suddenly, the witch appeared
21:44She snatched the child
21:46This child is mine, she cackled
21:49Her name is Rapunzel
21:52And with that, she vanished
21:54Twelve years passed
21:59Rapunzel grew into a lovely girl with long golden hair
22:06The witch grew afraid that someday Rapunzel might marry and leave her
22:11So one day, she took Rapunzel deep into the forest to an enchanted tower
22:18There, at the top of the tower, she locked Rapunzel in
22:28And cast a spell so that the tower had neither stair nor door
22:34You will stay there always, the witch called up to Rapunzel
22:40And I will bring you everything you need
22:44Whenever I come, I will call
22:47Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair
22:51So I may climb without a stair
22:55When you hear me, you will undo your beautiful long hair
22:59Tie it to the hook near the window and let it down
23:02Then I will climb up to your room
23:05A few years went by
23:10Rapunzel was lonely in the tower
23:13To pass the time, she sang sad songs
23:16One day, the king's son was riding through the forest
23:29He heard someone singing in the tower
23:33He looked for a way into the tower, but there was no door
23:39Just then, he heard someone coming
23:42And hid behind a tree
23:44It was the witch
23:45She stood under the tower and called
23:48Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair
23:52So I may climb without a stair
23:56A girl came to the small window at the top of the tower
24:00The prince had never seen anyone so beautiful
24:04Rapunzel let down her hair
24:06And the witch climbed up
24:08That night, the prince stood under the tower
24:14Rapunzel, Rapunzel, he called
24:17Imitating the witch's voice
24:19Let down your hair
24:20So I may climb without a stair
24:24Down came the long golden hair
24:26And the prince climbed up to the small window
24:29Rapunzel was frightened
24:31She had never seen a man before
24:33Don't be afraid, said the prince
24:37I heard your singing and wanted to see you
24:39You're very nice
24:42As he spoke, Rapunzel lost her fear
24:46The stranger was gentle and kind
24:50I will help you escape from the tower, said the prince
24:55I will come every night and bring you some silk
25:00Make it into a ladder
25:02And when it is long enough, climb down it
25:05And I will take you away
25:08Every day, the witch came and brought Rapunzel food
25:15And every night, the prince came and brought Rapunzel's silk
25:19One day, when the witch had climbed up Rapunzel's hair to the window
25:24Rapunzel said, why is it that you climb so much more slowly than the prince?
25:28Oh, wicked, wicked child, said the witch
25:33I thought I had hidden you from the world
25:36But you have been seeing someone
25:39She wound Rapunzel's hair around her left hand
25:43Picked up a pair of scissors with her right
25:45And snip-snap, she cut off Rapunzel's hair
25:48She tied Rapunzel's hair to the hook like a rope
25:51And made Rapunzel climb down
25:53She took Rapunzel deep into the forest where no one would find her
25:57Here is where you will live, said the witch
26:04Get what food you can from the forest
26:06The witch went back to the tower and climbed up
26:12She untied Rapunzel's hair, pulled it up into the room and waited
26:17That night, the prince came
26:23Rapunzel, Rapunzel, he called, let down your hair so I may climb without a stare
26:32The hair came down and the prince climbed up the tower
26:35Aha, shrieked the witch
26:38You have come for your dear Rapunzel
26:41But the pretty bird has gone from her nest
26:45She sings no more and you will never see her again
26:48And she pushed the prince out of the window
26:51He fell into some bushes full of thorns
26:56The thorns scratched his eyes and he was blind
27:00He picked up a branch with which to feel his way
27:03And stumbled off into the forest
27:06For years, the prince wandered through the forest
27:14Living on roots and berries, searching for Rapunzel
27:17Then one day, he heard a voice singing
27:21It was the same sad song he had heard coming from the tower so many years before
27:27He went towards it
27:34As soon as Rapunzel saw the poor, blind, ragged man
27:39She knew it as the prince
27:40She ran towards him, held him close
27:44And wept for joy
27:45Two of her tears touched the prince's eyes
27:49His eyes were healed and he could see again
27:52The prince took Rapunzel back to his kingdom
27:58Where they were married
28:00And were very happy
28:02As for the witch
28:09When the prince fell, she untied Rapunzel's hair from the hook
28:14Suddenly, it slipped from her hands
28:17The witch was trapped in the tower
28:20And for all we know
28:22She may be there still
28:24For she was never seen again
28:27The Four Musicians
28:42From the Brothers Grimm
28:44There was once a donkey
28:54Who had worked for his master for many years
28:57Carrying heavy sacks of corn to the mill
28:59When the donkey became old
29:02And was no longer able to do his work
29:04His master decided to kill him
29:06And sell his skin
29:07That night
29:13The donkey decided to escape
29:15I may be old and weak, he thought
29:18But my voice is as strong as ever
29:20I'll go to the town of Bram
29:22And become a musician
29:24And so that night
29:33He ran away
29:34He'd not gone far
29:42When he saw a dog lying in the road
29:44Looking very sad
29:46Hello, old dog
29:47Why do you look so unhappy?
29:49Asked the donkey
29:50I'm getting old
29:52Said the dog
29:53I was once a strong hunting dog
29:55But now that I'm old and weak
29:57I can't hunt anymore
29:58My master wanted to kill me
30:00So I ran away
30:01But how can I earn my food now?
30:05Why not come along with me?
30:06Said the donkey
30:07I'm going to Bram
30:08And to become a musician
30:10A donkey and a dog
30:12Could sing together nicely
30:13Oof, oof
30:19I'll come
30:21Said the dog
30:22They'd not gone far
30:27When they saw a cat
30:28Sitting in the middle of the road
30:30Looking very sad
30:31Hello, old cat
30:33Why do you look so unhappy?
30:35Asked the donkey
30:35My life is in danger
30:38Said the cat
30:39I am getting old
30:40And my teeth are no longer sharp
30:42I like to sit by the fire
30:45Instead of chasing mice
30:46And this morning
30:48My mistress tried to drown me
30:49So I ran away
30:51But where am I to go?
30:54Why not come with us?
30:55Said the donkey
30:56We're going to Bram
30:57And to become town musicians
30:59A donkey, a dog and a cat
31:01Could sing together nicely
31:03Meow, meow, I'll come
31:10Said the cat
31:11The three animals had not gone far
31:16When they saw a rooster
31:17Sitting on a fence
31:18Crowing with all his strength
31:20Cock-a-doodle-doo
31:23Cock-a-doodle-doo
31:25Hello, old cat
31:27What are you screeching about?
31:28Asked the donkey
31:29I'm frightened
31:32Said the rooster
31:33Every morning
31:35When the sun comes up
31:36I crow loud and strong
31:37To wake the farmer
31:38And his wife
31:39But today
31:40I heard the farmer
31:42Tell his wife
31:43To cook me
31:44For Sunday dinner
31:45So I'm crowing
31:46While I still can
31:48Why not come with us?
31:50Said the donkey
31:50We're going to Bram
31:52And to become musicians
31:53A donkey, a dog, a cat
31:55And a rooster
31:56Could make wonderful music together
31:58Cock-a-doodle-doo
32:05I'll come
32:08Said the rooster
32:09But Bremen was far away
32:22And the animals
32:23Could not reach it that day
32:24That evening
32:27Tired and hungry
32:29They left the road
32:31And went into the forest
32:32To find a place to sleep
32:33The donkey and the dog
32:37Lay down under a large tree
32:38The cat climbed up
32:40Into its branches
32:41And the rooster
32:42Flew to the top of the tree
32:44Where he felt safest
32:45Before he went to sleep
32:47The rooster
32:48Looked round about him
32:50Far off
32:51He saw something bright
32:53And shining
32:54I see a light
32:57He told the others
32:58It must be a house
33:00Let's go and have a look
33:02Said the donkey
33:02There may be a barn
33:03With some hay
33:04For me to eat
33:05And I might be able
33:07To get a few bones
33:08With some meat on them
33:09Said the dog
33:10And I might get some milk
33:12Said the cat
33:13And there may be
33:15Some scraps of food
33:16For me
33:17Said the rooster
33:17So the animals
33:19So the animals
33:19Made their way
33:20Through the forest
33:21Towards the house
33:21When they reached it
33:25The donkey
33:25Who was tallest
33:26Went to the window
33:27And looked in
33:28What do you see?
33:30Asked the dog
33:31I see guns
33:34And swords
33:35And chests of money
33:36And all sorts
33:37Of stolen things
33:39Said the donkey
33:40This is a robber's house
33:43He whispered
33:45Let's get away
33:46Said the cat
33:47Wait
33:49The robbers
33:51Are sitting at a table
33:53Full of food
33:54And drink
33:55Food
34:00Said the dog
34:01Hungrily
34:02And drink
34:03Said the cat
34:04Thirstily
34:05If only we could
34:08Drive them away
34:09Said the rooster
34:10So they worked
34:12Out a plan
34:13The donkey
34:17Stood on his hind legs
34:18With his front feet
34:19On the windowsill
34:20The dog
34:21Jumped onto
34:22The donkey's shoulders
34:23The cat
34:24Climbed onto
34:25The dog's back
34:26And the rooster
34:27Flew up
34:27And perched
34:28On top of the cat
34:29When they were all ready
34:31The donkey
34:32Gave the signal
34:32And they
34:34Burst through
34:35The donkey
34:40Brayed
34:41The dog barked
34:42The cat me out
34:43And the rooster crowed
34:44The robbers
34:45Were terrified
34:46They thought
34:47They were being
34:47Attacked by a monster
34:48They ran out of the house
34:50And into the forest
34:51The animals sat down
34:55At the table
34:55And ate
34:56And ate
34:57And ate
34:57When they had licked
35:04And pecked
35:05The plates clean
35:05They put out the light
35:07And looked
35:07For a place to sleep
35:08The donkey
35:10Lay down
35:11On a heap of straw
35:12In the yard
35:12The dog
35:14The dog stretched himself
35:16On the mat
35:16By the door
35:17The cat curled up
35:20In front of the warm ashes
35:22In the fireplace
35:23And the rooster
35:24Flew up onto the roof
35:26They were all so tired
35:28That they soon fell
35:29Fast asleep
35:30From the forest
35:33The robbers saw
35:34That everything in the house
35:35Was quiet
35:35We shouldn't let ourselves
35:38Be frightened
35:38So easily
35:39Said the robber
35:40Captain
35:41I'll stay here
35:43You go and find out
35:45What really happened
35:46And so one robber
35:48Went nervously
35:49Went nervously
35:49Back to the house
35:50Everything was quiet
35:54He went into the dark kitchen
35:56Could not see a thing
35:58Just then
36:00The cat woke
36:01Her two eyes shone
36:03As she watched him
36:04The robber
36:06The robber thought
36:06They were live coals
36:07And reached down
36:08To get a light
36:09Meow
36:09Shrieked the cat
36:11Spitting and scratching
36:12At the robber's face
36:13Yipe
36:13Screamed the robber
36:14He ran towards the door
36:15And stepped on the dog
36:17Meow
36:18Meow
36:18Growled the dog
36:18And bit his leg
36:19Meow
36:20Screamed the robber
36:21And ran out into the yard
36:22Past the heap of straw
36:23Meow
36:24Gave the donkey
36:25He kicked the robber
36:26And sent him flying
36:27Meow
36:28Screamed the robber
36:29And woke the rooster
36:30On the roof
36:31Cock-a-doo-doo-doo
36:32Cock-a-doo-doo-doo
36:34Shrieked the rooster
36:35Flapping his wings
36:36The robber ran back
36:38To the forest
36:39As fast as his legs
36:40Could carry him
36:41Oh we can't live
36:43In that house anymore
36:43He told the others
36:44First
36:45Horrible witch
36:47Spat at me
36:47And scratched me
36:48With her long nails
36:49I ran for the door
36:51And a man
36:52Stabbed me in the leg
36:53With a knife
36:54I ran into the yard
36:56And a monster
36:57Hit me
36:58With a big wooden club
36:59And on the roof
37:03Sat the devil
37:04Waving his arms
37:05And screaming
37:06Cut the man in two
37:08Cut the man in two
37:10The robbers
37:11Turned their backs
37:13And ran
37:13And they never
37:20Never came back
37:22The four animals
37:30Liked the house
37:30So much
37:31That they never
37:32Went to Bremen
37:33To become musicians
37:34After all
37:34Every evening
37:39After supper
37:40They sing together
37:42They make a dreadful noise
37:44And since there is no one
37:46To hear them
37:46They think to this day
37:48They are the finest musicians
37:50In the world
37:51The Emperor's New Clothes
38:08By Hans Andersen
38:10Many years ago
38:16There was an emperor
38:17Who liked new clothes
38:19So much
38:20That he spent
38:21All his money on them
38:22He had a different set
38:25Of rich and beautiful robes
38:26For every hour
38:28Of the day
38:28And every time
38:30He changed
38:31He admired himself
38:32In the mirror
38:33Life at the Emperor's Palace
38:54Was gay
38:55And happy
38:56Every day
38:57New visitors came
38:58One day
39:02Two swindlers arrived
39:04They bowed
39:06To the Emperor
39:07Your Majesty
39:08They said
39:10We are weavers
39:12We can weave
39:14The most beautiful cloth
39:16In the world
39:17This cloth
39:19Is magic
39:20Anyone who is a fool
39:22Will not be able
39:23To see it
39:24To a stupid person
39:27The cloth
39:28Is invisible
39:29The emperor
39:32Thought to himself
39:33With a suit
39:34Made from such
39:35A wonderful cloth
39:37I could tell
39:38Which men are wise
39:40And which men
39:42Are fools
39:43And he gave
39:45The two swindlers
39:46A lot of money
39:47So that they could
39:48Begin work at once
39:50The swindlers
39:53Built a loom
39:54On which to weave
39:55The magic cloth
39:56On which to weave
40:23Click
40:25Click
40:25Clack
40:26Click
40:27Clack
40:29Went the loom
40:30But the swindlers
40:32Had not bought
40:33Any thread
40:34To put in the loom
40:34They were only
40:36Pretending to weave
40:37They were weaving
40:38Nothing
40:39I'd like to know
40:42What that cloth
40:43Looks like
40:44Thought the emperor
40:45One day
40:46And he sent
40:47His oldest minister
40:48To see
40:49The swindlers
40:50The swindlers
40:51Showed the minister
40:52The loom
40:52Isn't this cloth
40:54Beautiful
40:55They asked
40:56The minister looked
40:58Dear me
41:00He thought
41:01I can't see
41:04Any cloth
41:05At all
41:06But if I say
41:08I can't see it
41:09The emperor
41:11Will think
41:12I am a fool
41:13Look closer
41:15At the colours
41:16In the cloth
41:17Said the swindlers
41:18Here is purple
41:20And blue
41:21And orange
41:23And red
41:24All woven
41:25Into a lovely pattern
41:27What do you think
41:28Of it
41:29Oh
41:31Said the minister
41:32It's beautiful
41:34And I shall tell
41:36The emperor
41:37How lovely
41:38The cloth is
41:40And tell him
41:42To give us more money
41:43To buy
41:43Silk and gold thread
41:44We need it
41:46To make more cloth
41:47Said the swindlers
41:48A week later
41:50The emperor
41:51Sent a noble lord
41:53To see if the cloth
41:54For his new suit
41:55Was finished
41:55The noble lord
41:57Stared and stared
41:59At the loom
41:59But could not see
42:00Any cloth in it
42:01Good heavens
42:03He thought
42:04I can't see
42:05Anything
42:06Does that mean
42:08That I am a fool
42:09If so
42:10I must make sure
42:11That nobody
42:12Finds out
42:13He returned
42:15To the palace
42:16I saw the cloth
42:18And it's very beautiful
42:20He told the emperor
42:21The whole town
42:24Is talking
42:25About this splendid cloth
42:27Said the emperor
42:28Now I must see it
42:29For myself
42:33So the next day
42:34The emperor went
42:35To see the magic cloth
42:36With his wisest ministers
42:38And noblest lords
42:39Not one of them
42:44Could see the cloth
42:46But they were all afraid
42:47The emperor would think
42:48Them stupid
42:49If they said so
42:50Oh
42:51It's very pretty
42:53They said
42:53Wonderful
42:54Beautiful
42:56Magnificent
42:58What colors
43:00What patterns
43:01It's absolutely perfect
43:04What?
43:06I can't see anything at all
43:09Thought the emperor
43:10But I can't let them know that
43:12They'll think I'm a fool
43:14And not fit to be an emperor
43:16It's the most beautiful cloth
43:20I have ever seen
43:21He said aloud
43:22Now make me a suit from it
43:24I shall wear it in the parade
43:26Next week
43:27Make sure it's ready by then
43:29Yes
43:30Yes
43:31Said the swindlers
43:33Every night that week
43:35The swindlers
43:36Sat in front of their window
43:37So that people could see them
43:39Making the emperor's new clothes
43:40They pretended to take
43:42The magic cloth
43:43Off the loom
43:44They snipped the air
43:46With huge scissors
43:47As if cutting the cloth
43:48Then they pretended
43:50To stitch and sew the cloth
43:52With needles
43:53That had no thread in them
43:55At last
43:56They called from the window
43:58To the people of the town
43:59The emperor's new clothes
44:02Are ready
44:03On the day of the parade
44:07The swindlers came to the palace
44:09Carrying a large chest
44:11The emperor was waiting for them
44:13With all his ministers
44:14And noble laws
44:15The swindlers opened the chest
44:17And held out their hands
44:19Towards the emperor
44:20These are the trousers
44:23They said
44:24And here is the shirt
44:27And this is the coat
44:32And the cloak
44:36With a long, long train
44:39The clothes are so fine and light
44:44That your majesty will think you have nothing on
44:47Wonderful
44:48And the swindlers
44:49Wonderful
44:49Said the oldest minister
44:51Beautiful
44:52Said the noble lords
44:55Although none of them
44:56Could see anything at all
44:58Now, will it please your majesty
45:02Said the swindlers
45:03To take off your clothes
45:05We will dress you in your new ones
45:09So the emperor took off all his clothes
45:12And the swindlers pretended to dress him
45:15He stood in front of the mirror
45:17And turned round and round
45:19Admiring the clothes he could not see
45:21How well his majesty looks in his new clothes
45:27Said the swindlers
45:28How beautifully they fit
45:32Said the ministers and noble lords
45:34What colours
45:37What patterns
45:39Said the emperor
45:40These are indeed clothes
45:43Fit for an emperor
45:45The parade began
45:47The people cheered
45:50Everyone at the windows and in the streets
45:52Said how beautiful the emperor's new clothes are
45:56The emperor was pleased
45:58How lucky I am
46:00He thought
46:01To rule such wise people
46:04There are no fools in my country
46:07For everyone can see my beautiful new clothes
46:11And the people kept on cheering
46:12And saying how fine the emperor's new clothes looked
46:16Suddenly
46:17A little boy's voice was heard
46:19But he hasn't got anything on
46:22Don't be silly
46:23Said the boy's father
46:24But he's got nothing on
46:27Said the boy
46:28The child says the emperor has nothing on
46:32Whispered the woman
46:33It's true
46:34Said a man after a while
46:35He hasn't
46:36That's right
46:38He hasn't
46:39He has nothing on at all
46:42Said the people
46:43One after the other
46:44And they began to laugh
46:47And laugh
46:48And laugh
46:49The emperor shivered
46:55For he knew the people were right
46:58The swindlers had made a fool of him
47:01And all his ministers
47:02But we must go on with the parade
47:06He thought
47:06And he marched on
47:08With all his ministers and noble lords behind him
47:11The next day
47:18The emperor sent for the little boy
47:20You are the only person in my kingdom
47:24He said
47:24Who was not afraid to tell the truth
47:27From now on
47:29You will live at the palace
47:31When you grow up
47:33You will be my wisest minister
47:36And stop me
47:37From ever being a fool again
47:40The princess and the pea
47:53By Hans Andersen
47:55Once upon a time
48:02There was a young and handsome prince
48:04Who wanted to marry a princess
48:07And have a family
48:13But his mother
48:21The queen
48:22Said that no one
48:24But a real princess
48:25Would be good enough
48:27To marry her son
48:28A real princess
48:30Said the queen
48:31Is perfect in every way
48:34A real princess
48:36Is beautiful
48:37A real princess
48:40Is clever
48:41A real princess
48:44Is sweet
48:45And very
48:47Very sensitive
48:49The prince travelled
48:56All over the world
48:57To try to find
48:58A real princess
49:11But there was something
49:36Not quite right
49:37About every princess
49:39He met
49:40Some were too fat
49:42And some were too thin
49:45Some were too tall
49:47And some were too short
49:50Some were too ugly
49:52And some were too stupid
49:55Some were too greedy
49:58And none of them
50:01And none of them
50:01Was really sensitive
50:02The prince went back
50:09To his castle
50:10He was very sad
50:16I will never find
50:18A real princess
50:19He said
50:19I will never marry
50:21And have a family
50:22One dark night
50:28There was a terrible storm
50:30Thunder crashed
50:32Lightning flashed
50:33And rain poured down
50:35From the sky
50:36Suddenly there was
50:38A loud knocking
50:39At the castle door
50:40The prince's father
50:41The king
50:42Went down to open it
50:43A girl stood there
50:47Water ran down her hair
50:51And clothes
50:52It ran into the tops
50:53Of her shoes
50:53And out through the toes
50:55Please let me in
50:57She said
50:57I am a princess
50:59A real princess
51:01Asked the king
51:02A real princess
51:04Said the girl
51:05A real princess
51:10The prince saw
51:14That the girl
51:15Was beautiful
51:16And clever
51:17And sweet
51:19He fell in love
51:21With her
51:21And wanted to marry her
51:23But the queen
51:25Said to herself
51:26We shall soon
51:27Find out
51:28If she is a real
51:29Princess or not
51:30She hurried
51:32Into the bedroom
51:33Where royal guests
51:34Slept
51:35Then she took
51:36A small
51:37Dried pea
51:38Just one
51:39And put it
51:41On the bed
51:42Bring me
51:47A hundred mattresses
51:48She told the maids
51:49Then she called
51:50The king
51:51I want a hundred
51:53Mattresses on that bed
51:54She told him
51:55Count them
51:57As they are put on
51:58Oh dear
52:00Said the king
52:01I never was any good
52:03At counting
52:03I will get the page
52:05Boys to help me
52:06Count the mattresses
52:09As they are put on the bed
52:10He told the boys
52:11Begin
52:12And as each mattress
52:15Was put on the bed
52:16They counted
52:17One
52:18Two
52:21Three

52:25Five
52:27Six
52:29Seven
52:30Eight
52:33Nine

52:37Then they stopped
52:40I know what comes next
52:42Said the king

52:44And he looked very pleased
52:46With himself
52:46Then twelve

53:32And
53:33A hundred
53:35Said the page boys
53:36And king together
53:37As the maids
53:38Put on the last mattress
53:39Good
53:41Said the king
53:42I knew we could do it
53:43The queen came back
53:46Are you sure
53:48There are a hundred
53:48Mattresses on the bed
53:50She asked
53:51Yes
53:51Said the king
53:52We all counted
53:53Good
53:54Said the queen
53:55Tonight
53:56The girl will sleep
53:57On top of them
53:58And tomorrow
53:59We will know
54:00If she is a real princess
54:02Or not
54:03The servants put a long ladder
54:06Against the mattresses
54:07And the princess
54:08Climbed up
54:09To the very top
54:10Good night
54:12Said the queen
54:13And everyone
54:15Left the room
54:16The next morning
54:25The queen came back
54:27Into the bedroom
54:27How did you sleep
54:30She asked
54:31Did you have a good night
54:33Oh no
54:35Said the princess
54:36A dreadful night
54:38I tossed and turned
54:39And couldn't sleep at all
54:41There was something
54:42Terribly hard
54:43In the bed
54:44My whole body
54:45My whole body
54:45Is black and blue
54:46With bruises
54:47I don't think
54:48I ever had
54:49Such a horrid night
54:50In all my life
54:51Take away the mattresses
54:54Ordered the queen
54:55Then she told the king
54:56To count them
54:57Ninety nine
54:59Ninety eight
55:00Ninety seven
55:01Counted the king

55:13Two
55:14One
55:15Zero
55:16When the last mattress
55:19Was taken away
55:20The queen showed everyone
55:21The dried pea
55:22Only a real princess
55:25Could be sensitive enough
55:26To feel one little pea
55:28Through a hundred mattresses
55:29Said the queen
55:30She turned to the prince
55:32You may ask her
55:34To be your wife
55:35She said
55:36Prince and princess
55:39Were married
55:40And lived happily
55:42Ever after
55:43But wait
55:48What did you say?
55:50No one
55:51Not even a real princess
55:52Could feel a pea
55:53Under a hundred mattresses
55:54Well you're right
55:56She didn't
55:58You see
55:59The prince had a dog
56:01And a cat
56:01Who saw the queen
56:03Put the pea
56:04On the bed
56:04And when everyone left
56:07The dog and cat
56:08Told the princess
56:10Who slept very well
56:11All night
56:12And knew exactly
56:15What to say
56:15To the queen
56:16In the morning
56:17The prince and princess
56:19And their children
56:20Looked after the dog
56:22And the cat
56:22For the rest of their lives
56:23And the pea
56:30Was put in the royal museum
56:31Where it can be seen
56:34To this very day
56:36The queen
