00:00Taking care of your lung health has never been easier. With lung cancer screening you get a quick,
00:16simple and non-invasive way to check your lungs are working as they should be and it could save
00:22your life. If you're aged between 55 and 74 years old, smoke or used to smoke and are registered
00:30with a GP you'll be invited for free lung cancer screening. Lung cancer is the third most common
00:38cancer and screening is the best way to find it early as you might not have any symptoms. If lung
00:44cancer is found early there are more treatment options available to you including curing it.
00:50Through screening we found more than 75% of lung cancers at an early stage. We do understand
00:59that tobacco addiction is a disease not a lifestyle choice so we also offer you support to quit
01:06should you want to join the nearly 1,000 people in South Yorkshire and Bassett Law who have
01:10done so already. After accepting your invitation for screening you will receive a call from a
01:17nurse to run through a few questions to determine your risk of lung cancer. If required the nurse
01:24will then book you an appointment for a chest scan. Your appointment will not be at a hospital but at a
01:30mobile scanning unit in a community location near you to make it more convenient. There'll be ample free
01:37parking, lift access and toilets available. When you arrive you'll be welcomed by our friendly and
01:45experienced team. There'll be no long waits as you'll be the only patient in the scanning room
01:51and if you do bring someone with you they will have to wait outside the scanning room for you.
01:57You can bring your health passport with you if you have one. This will tell the radiographers about
02:02your personal needs and any reasonable adjustments you may require. You don't need to get undressed for your
02:08scan but you will need to remove your coat. Try not to wear anything metal at your appointment like
02:15jewellery or an underwired bra as you'll be asked to remove these. If you do need to change in the
02:21scanning unit you'll be given all the time and privacy you need. Our radiographers will explain
02:27exactly what's going to happen. They'll take your height and weight and when you're ready you'll lie
02:36on the scanner bed. It's completely non-invasive. You just need to relax and follow simple instructions.
02:44To get the best quality image we'll ask you to hold your arms above your head. A soft cushion is
02:50available if you do need extra support. You'll need to hold your breath for 10 seconds so you might want
02:57to practice this before your appointment just to make the process smoother. When in use the scanner
03:02sounds much like a washing machine. If you're sensitive to noise you can wear earplugs and remember
03:10the radiographer will be watching you the entire time so if you do need help simply raise your hand.
03:18The scanning process only takes about three minutes and after your scan you're free to go back to your
03:24normal activities. You'll receive your results in the post within four weeks. If anything unusual is
03:31found we'll guide you through the next steps. Your results may be clear which means no issues were found
03:39or you might have incidental findings like emphysema. If a nodule is detected we'll schedule a follow-up scan
03:46to keep an eye on it. Whatever happens we're here to support you. Don't wait. Please take your opportunity
03:56to have this simple, quick and non-invasive lung cancer screening. It's free, easy and could save your life.
04:24you
