00:00Far out in the wide sea, where the water is deepest, lies the kingdom of the Myrrh people.
00:30Now, the Myrrh King had been a widower for many years,
00:58so his household was managed by his old mother.
01:06Also entrusted to the Myrrh Queen mother's care were her granddaughters, the six princesses.
01:16They were all beautiful, but the youngest was the most beautiful of them all.
01:26The magnificent seashell palace was the princess's playground, but when they tired of it, they
01:32would tend their gardens in the soft, blue sand.
01:36Then, high above this fabulous land, a ship was wrecked, and a sinking treasure chest
01:46was discovered and brought before the Myrrh King.
01:50While her sisters adorned themselves with the glittering jewelry and rich ornaments that
01:59they found inside the chest, the Little Mermaid asked only for the white marble statue of a
02:05handsome young man.
02:07Her father placed it in the Little Mermaid's garden, and there she would sit, quiet and thoughtful.
02:25Many an evening, her sisters rose to the surface, but the Little Mermaid could not go with them,
02:31for she was too young.
02:33From her bedroom window, she would gaze up through the clear water at the shape of the moon.
02:39Her grandmother had told her that a shadow passing over it could be a ship from the world of human beings.
02:49How the Little Mermaid longed to see it for herself.
02:55Sleep now, said the old lady.
03:00For no matter what wonders you may dream of beyond the waves, you will never be happier than you are here.
03:09At long last, the Little Mermaid was summoned to her father's presence.
03:31The Myrrh King gave her his blessing, and though there was sadness in his eyes,
03:35he released his youngest daughter from the kingdom of the Myrrh people.
03:45Farewell, she cried, and she rose up through the waters, light as a flake of foam.
03:50A great ship lay on the waves, and she swam closer and closer, till she touched its side.
04:08Above her, the Little Mermaid saw a human being, and though she was startled,
04:14he looked so like the statue in her garden that she stayed nearby watching him.
04:22He was a prince, and the crew was celebrating his birthday.
04:28Rocket shot up into the air, and she was so frightened that she dived below the ship.
04:42Though the sight of the beautiful reflections soon drew her back.
04:48As the last rocket faded, the sail was unfurled.
04:53But the Little Mermaid could not leave the handsome prince, and she followed in the ship's wake.
04:58Suddenly, there was a foaming and fermentation from the depths of the ocean.
05:04It was the Enchantress of the Seven Seas, come in search of the bones of shipwrecked sailors.
05:13The waves boiled at her touch, and the storm clouds gathered at her command.
05:18To the Little Mermaid, this seemed most delightful.
05:31The Prince's ship, however, was in great peril.
05:57She saw the storm sweep it up and carry it towards some jagged rocks.
06:12Where it was smashed into splinters.
06:18She searched desperately among the floating wreckage for the Prince.
06:26Die, oh, he will surely die, she cried.
06:31Yet, though his eyes had already closed, the wicked Enchantress did not claim the Prince's body.
06:49For the Little Mermaid found him, and holding his head above the waves, let the current carry them to a distant beach.
06:58She turned his head towards the sun, and stayed beside him on the warm sand.
07:13A bell rang out from a convent high on the cliffs, and some girls whose lessons had finished, ran down a path towards the beach.
07:25She kissed the Prince, and slid into the waves.
07:30The girls stopped when they saw a body on the sand.
07:34The Little Mermaid watched as one of them timidly approached the lifeless form.
07:40When the girl knelt down and stared into the Prince's face, his eyelids flickered.
07:52And he smiled at her.
07:56How overjoyed the Little Mermaid was to see the Prince rise to his feet!
08:01But he looked not for her.
08:04He did not know it was she who had saved him.
08:07And helped by the girls, he left the beach.
08:10No tears came to her eyes, for mermaids cannot cry.
08:14And she vowed to return there until she caught another glimpse of him.
08:17Do-de-do-de-do-de-do-de-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
08:26You'll leave your hopes at the bottom of the sea.
08:30But count on your dreams ending happily.
08:34You'll take the gloomy and pessimistic view.
08:38Believe in your dreams, and they'll all come true.
08:42The rest of your life can be up to you.
08:46Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
08:50Don't let the storm cloud the sky of blue above,
08:54but know that your life will be full of love.
08:58Don't think of things that are sure to make you blue.
09:03Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
09:06The rest of your life can be up to you.
09:11Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
09:14Yes, the rest of your life can be up to you.
09:19Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
09:23But the little mermaid waited in vain
09:26and thereafter stayed alone in her untended garden gazing at the statue.
09:31Her eldest sister came to her there and said,
09:33Be happy, little one. Come with me,
09:35for I have seen the prince in whose image this statue was made.
09:39Don't be afraid of what life has been stored,
09:42But know that your love opens any door.
09:47Who knows what wonderful things you can do.
09:51Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
09:55The rest of your life can be up to you.
09:59Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
10:02You can live in a world full of gloom and despair,
10:06But you know that it won't get you anywhere.
10:10It's a wonderful life, now you know that it's true.
10:14And the way that you live it is up to you.
10:18Don't leave your hopes at the bottom of the sea,
10:22But count out your dreams ending happily.
10:25Don't take the gloomy and pessimistic view.
10:31Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
10:34The rest of your life can be up to you.
10:39Believe in your dreams and they'll all come true.
10:44On a bridge over the stream that ran through the garden of the prince's castle,
11:05The little mermaid saw him, standing alone in the moonlight.
11:11And covered by the quiet waters, she fell asleep, content at last.
11:16She was soon missed in the Mo King's palace.
11:41Her grandmother set out to bring her back.
11:46And she found her by the rocks near the castle.
11:59How I would love to be a human being, sighed the little mermaid.
12:05Ah, but for that you would need a soul, said her grandmother.
12:09When human beings die, their bodies become dust,
12:13But their souls ascend to glorious unknown dwellings beyond the sky.
12:22At the moment of our death,
12:23We become foam upon the sea.
12:31Yet the merpeople live for 300 years,
12:34And each year is happier than the last.
12:36Grandmother, persisted the little mermaid.
12:41Does not the enchantress of the seven seas have the power to give souls?
12:46She may have, whispered the old lady,
12:49But no one would dare to make the terrible journey to her lair.
12:55Come now, my dear.
12:57We must hurry, or we shall be late for the court ball.
13:00We must be happy, or we shall be you!
13:20Let's see.
