Während Kaliforniens tödlichsten Waldbrand seit einem Jahrhundert versucht ein Busfahrer mit seinem Bus eine Gruppe Schüler in Sicherheit zu bringen. The Lost Bus ergründet dabei, was alles bei dem Brand schiefgelaufen ist und wie Katastrophen dieser Art in Zukunft verhindert werden können. Als Vorlage dient das auf Fakten basierende Buch Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire von Lizzie Johnson, das während des kalifornischen Waldbrandes 2018 spielt.
