01:18there are a million things to figure out
01:22we have one of the all-time greats coming back for our retirement run
01:29we have incredible performers still in their prime
01:34we have storylines that are years in the making young talent that will become
01:42that next generation of superstars i want to put a rocket on your ass everybody wants a spot

02:16how the story unfolded
02:19john before your eyes
02:21i was so scared about to come back
02:23it's good enough for the fans
02:25you've always been a main event guy
02:28i don't get here without you thank you
02:29this is absolute insanity
02:32i need your soul
02:35ready here it is
02:37two give two camera two camera
02:39just get started man
02:59hey hey how are you good you want to do some christmas stuff today do you want to put ornaments on the tree
03:12yeah okay
03:13do you want to put this you want to put this guy sean michaels gingerbread sean michaels
03:18he was my favorite wrestler
03:20all right so we're just like that too like gingerbread
03:23yeah he was made of gingerbread
03:25that was they used to call it sweet chin music because of the gingerbread
03:28my name is cody runnels
03:32and uh my wrestling name
03:35and what i go by and pretty much i've gone by my whole life is cody roads
03:39libby thinks that cody is a professional dancer
03:43because she saw entrances
03:50which is the big music and the lighting
03:52i think she thinks there's a component of dancing to it
03:56and has asked me before are you going to go dancing will you be dancing
04:00and i think she's even said when we showed her a couple clips on youtube
04:03oh this is the dancing
04:05it's not the worst
04:13parallel
04:15i'm good with that
04:21if when i asked what papa does for a living i'm a dancer
04:27for my daughter
04:30i'd be the best dancing dancer i possibly can be
04:33my role in wwe
04:36is that i am currently the undisputed wwe champion
04:41the american nightmare is here
04:46it is a role that is kind of the hood ornament for the company
04:51i get to be one of the most authentic if not most authentic wrestlers of this era simply for the fact that i play myself
05:01i am myself
05:03cody is the closest thing right now i think that we have to just a pure baby face
05:10that spot
05:13in my opinion probably the most difficult spot in the business right now
05:17easy to be a bad guy
05:18tell people a bunch of convoluted shit that seems reasonable to you
05:22and that's fun and easy
05:24just to be the guy that does the right thing all the time
05:28and overcomes and always succeeds
05:31people start to feel it's predictable
05:33people start to feel like it's
05:34like nobody's that good
05:36you know it's a tough thing
05:37i felt like such a bigger baby
05:41as white mate as you can be
05:45as fucking white meat as you could be
05:48be that way until we can anymore you know
05:50it ain't going anywhere
05:52now we just got to navigate it
05:54that's our fucking job
05:55our job me you fucking everybody
05:57but we navigate this now and figure out
05:59where we need to get it
06:01at some point here in a minute i need to get a picture of you with that
06:05one of my favorite ones ever
06:07there's a huge difference between being a wrestler
06:12and the wwe champion i've seen cody through every one of those seasons and this by far
06:20the demand of the job is unimaginable
06:24i'm incredibly lucky that my wife and i met in wrestling
06:29otherwise she would have left
06:31she knows what this push is
06:33she knows what it could mean for the future
06:36and she knows what it means right here and now
06:40people say it all the time the face of the company
06:43yeah
06:44when people say that
06:47my heart like skips a beat
06:50um
06:51because i always wanted to be that
06:53i just didn't know i could
06:55there you go look it's perfect
06:57so january 6th the premiere on netflix
07:15is massively important for this company
07:25putting us on a platform that is what
07:28300 million homes in that ballpark
07:30globally
07:31good
07:32there's a lot of people
07:33uh
07:34yeah sure
07:35jan six
07:36yes
07:37paul is our chief content officer
07:41his experience as being a former superstar
07:43for so many years
07:45has kind of helped aid him
07:48as a performer he was great
07:50triple h with the power grid
07:52triple h wins the title
07:55he was a student of the game
07:57tonight
07:58an army
07:59you know kind of understood the bigger picture of storytelling
08:03so now he's brought that to his role as chief content officer here
08:08i think cody doesn't have like a role in this show
08:13i think he's been eyeballing this show as far as like want to be a part of it
08:16yes yeah
08:16yeah
08:17you know he hits me fucking every day
08:19with cody rhodes the bigger the star
08:22the more you want to
08:24provide some scarcity
08:26of their star power
08:27to keep them as big as they are
08:30so it's special when cody rhodes is there
08:33and fans see that and feel that
08:35and they're anticipating your return even more
08:38so you have to know
08:40where everything is going long term and way in advance
08:44so we tend to break it down
08:46sort of into seasons
08:48the season will start with january 6th
08:52the netflix premiere
08:53we'll do the weekly television shows
08:56at minimum
08:57twice a week
08:59along the way
09:01we will do the royal rumble
09:03which kicks off the road to wrestlemania
09:05we will do elimination chamber
09:07which continues that road to wrestlemania
09:08and then we will get to wrestlemania itself
09:11which is a two day
09:12basically it's our super bowl
09:14along the way you're building up these storylines
09:20obviously the biggest storylines
09:22revolve around our biggest stars
09:24chief among them being cody rhodes
09:26but john cena is coming back for one last year
09:31of a retirement run
09:33arguably one of the greatest performers in the history of our business
09:37and the return of john is a wonderful thing and a challenge at the same time
09:44my name is john cena
09:46the name i use in the ring is john cena
09:47my government name is john cena
09:49wrestling is the foundation of the house of my family relationship
09:55i grew up in a family of five boys
09:58and wrestling was our conduit
09:59it was our connection system
10:01i appreciate this
10:04as my hobby
10:06it's
10:07the best of imagination land
10:10not only did i do it during my free time
10:12but i paid to do it
10:14that i am the future of this business
10:17so
10:18i would do this for free
10:20i just physically can't do it anymore
10:23cody rhodes is in many ways kind of inherited that mantle
10:28from john cena
10:29and cody understood
10:31just how much
10:33the netflix premiere meant for the company
10:35and cody i think just
10:36feeling as if he is
10:38he calls himself
10:38the quarterback of
10:40of the team
10:40he wanted to be a part of it
10:42cody wants to save cena
10:44i know
10:45cody wants it like they all square up
10:47the fucking
10:47you know takes heena down
10:49and cody rubs it
10:50and fucking
10:50makes the save
10:52totally understood
10:53obviously
10:53on big shows in company history
10:55cody
10:55you know fucking franchise
10:57probably every reason to have him on the show
10:58i'm just like
10:59we don't have
11:00a half a dozen heels
11:01who are just
11:02everybody's got stories
11:03so it's like
11:04we're gonna chuck
11:04judgment day out there
11:05you know
11:06it's
11:06also
11:07and i get
11:08cody's point of view
11:09but also like
11:10it was the first time
11:11we see john cena
11:12in
11:13what
11:15a year
11:16but like
11:17the first time he comes out
11:19and like somebody's gotta save him
11:20it just feels off to me too
11:22we can write
11:25and choreograph whatever we want back here
11:28you have to be ready for the element you can't control and that's the audience
11:33if you ignore them
11:34man they will skewer you
11:37but
11:38i think whatever a performer does they have to invest in it
11:42and the roster's pretty deep
11:44we got a lot of all stars
11:45so right now i have punk and seth
11:49roman and solo
11:50ria and live
11:52matches are so big
11:54you wouldn't want to give them time
11:56yes
11:57i love like
12:08taxidermy stuff
12:09so i have
12:09a two-headed duck
12:11i have
12:11an octopus
12:12a bat
12:13crocodile
12:14i have this little like
12:16mozzie
12:16mosquito
12:17this is like a shrunken head
12:19like i love
12:22creepy artwork
12:23and dark colours
12:25and i love all of that stuff
12:27that's why my office looks like this
12:30technically my name is demity bennett
12:33but i go by ria ripley
12:35and that's what everyone really knows me by
12:37ria is a goddess name
12:40and ripley is from the chick from aliens
12:43because she's a badass
12:43and i just put them together
12:45ah ah
12:45thought it made sense
12:46i'm from adelaide south australia
12:50i watched wwe growing up
12:52absolutely loved it
12:54wwe came to australia when i was 17 years old and they gave me a tryout then
12:59but i was too young
13:01they ended up coming back when i was 20
13:03and they had another tryout so they invited me to that
13:06and yeah i mean the rest is pretty much history
13:10it's weird describing ria ripley for me because i am ria ripley
13:20it's just like a 10 times version of myself
13:23she's crazy
13:26ria riptide through the table
13:30she's kind of scary but you're kind of attracted to her at the same time
13:34ria ripley absolutely possessed
13:37i like to say that it's the side of me that would get arrested in everyday life
13:41she's just absolutely chaotic and sadistic and manipulative
13:47it's all the sides of me that i don't like to show in my everyday life
13:51i'm always like demi bennett right before and i'm like freaking out
13:56and then as soon as my music plays i'm ria ripley
13:59when that music hits it's a moment in the crowd and it's undeniable
14:12she has it she can be the biggest star in this business for a long time to come
14:17yeah i sorry my dog is uh playing with this tennis ball
14:22but this is luna she's my first child barry's my second and then bella is my third
14:30barry's always everyone's favorite aren't you baz and you're the most annoying middle child
14:36that i have ever met
14:37huh yeah you got bad breath too
14:41so the story between me liv and dom has actually been going for like an eternity
14:47it feels like it this has gone on long enough
14:53liv and i we have been feuding for like three years
15:00it's been a long time because we started as a tag team
15:05and dom and i we kind of just like we kind of got put into this storyline together
15:11which i don't think was supposed to be a relationship storyline
15:15and then liv morgan decided to try and steal my family which she accomplished
15:20dom turned on me and helped liv beat me for the women's world championship
15:26it was a wild ride
15:32before that she ruined my entire life at work
15:44and she's she's sort of sucker attacking you and
15:49did you want me to sort of fight back a little bit or just take it
15:52depends depends on what she's like what is she throwing do we know
15:56and that's where my whole year kind of changed
16:03she threw me into the wall but like i have a third grade ac sprain
16:11i full-on broke character as well in in that scene
16:17my collarbone and my shoulder blade got ripped apart
16:20she had to kick me into the second wall
16:22but my shoulder was already stuffed up so i'm like holding my arm
16:26when liv gets on me it's like punching me in the shoulder
16:30in the bad shoulder
16:31and i was like somebody please get her off me
16:34bruh i felt it
16:40as soon as i hit the wall i was like i grabbed it and i was like
16:44so i had a grade three ac sprain which means that my shoulder blade and my collarbone aren't connected anymore
17:05collarbone aren't connected anymore the only way to get them back together is through surgery and i opted not so like it was either
17:13surgery you have a scar or no surgery you have a massive lump in your shoulder so um that's why i have this
17:20bad boy so he looks pretty gnarly sometimes but it's just going to be there until i decide to fix it if i do
17:31because i can still go back and have the surgery i just don't want to have that extra time off because it's going to be six months compared to three months
17:37i know this sucks do not freak out we will make this into something wonderful okay
17:44sorry okay i'm sorry
17:46i'm sorry about physical business
17:50shit gets everybody nobody walks out on skis
17:53all right
17:55shit up
17:57all right
17:58my entire life i've done this so i can't say it's any harder now just because i'm older
18:17you know it's always been tough
18:19suffering is relative it's situational so now i think the landscape is changing so much
18:27and that excites me
18:29so i'm looking at that as like this is uncharted water i've never been more excited
18:35my name is punk cm punk punker cookie monster
18:39pepsi phil
18:42um black philip
18:44my government name is phil
18:47yeah it's a it's a white accountant's name
18:49i started wrestling in my friend's backyard in 1993
18:55i started wrestling professionally in 1997
19:00i was always drawn to punk rock because if there was a rule of punk rock it's be yourself
19:07i have a hall of fame career i could put up against anybody
19:12but if there was one thing in the sport i have not accomplished it's main event in wrestlemania
19:24initially uh hunter and i clashed because i was a main talent roster full-time the same time he was a main talent roster full-time so there's that competition
19:36and a lot of that generation was looking down at kids like me saying oh you're here to take my spot well i'm not gonna let you or at least it's gonna be a fight
19:48halfway through my career here he becomes office and now i'm like fuck you you can't tell me anything
19:54i always felt like my job was i'm in between office and the talent but punk would never let me assist and he would then sometimes attack me
20:05like you know where there would be moments where we'd have a meeting and he'd come at me and i'd leave there thinking like this little motherfucker
20:12punk didn't trust me and i didn't trust punk
20:17i had been on the road 365 days a year for 10 years straight after a while
20:24the wheels fell off john cena while you you lay there i have a lot of things i want to get off my chest
20:35and you can say that i have a big mouth and i talked a lot of shit
20:39that doesn't mean anything i said was nothing short of 100 fact
20:46i'm not on your lovely little collector cups i'm not on the cover of the program
20:51i'm barely promoted i don't get to be in movies but the fact that duane
20:56is in the main event of wrestlemania next year and i'm not makes me sick
21:00this was phil brooks talking through the mouth of cm punk
21:07and saying all the things that you weren't supposed to say
21:12if i didn't take myself off the hamster wheel nobody else was gonna and they were gonna they
21:18were gonna work me until i died when i left this place in 2014 i was heartbroken
21:25it took maybe 10 years for me to heal from a lot of things we'd had conversations over the years for
21:33me to be able to come back here and just nothing nothing stuck
21:39i felt like how he communicated with others needed to change one time when he and i met
21:47after he had left this is years later where there was a conversation about him coming back i said
21:53still the same dude won't work the last time that we met and talked with him i felt like he honestly
21:59was different it seemed almost like in the phone call we both realized like oh he's different no i'm
22:07different let's give it a shot it has been quite the night at the sold out all state arena in chicago
22:29it's fair to say that me returning to wwe is the biggest return of all time
22:37you want to put on a picture with me and you blow up the internet uh yeah what do you want to do
22:41stay in front of the logo go right oh oh are you going to point at me i'm going to point back at
22:46you i don't know if it's ever been done
22:50he clearly knows he's much closer to the end than he is the beginning when you get to a certain age you
22:55start thinking about look i'm i'm one big injury away from i don't want to do this anymore
23:03looking at myself and my career right now i think my role on the roster is i feel like we need
23:10to take another picture yeah like work out and i'm the player coach can we do that yeah can you take
23:16a picture for us i'm i just i'm a huge mark for ria today i love it for real yes i have years of
23:26experience that a lot of people don't have i have made more mistakes and i am happy to help them learn
23:36from them i love you jacob i love you punk by the way can i get a picture with you yeah 100 percent
23:49on january 6th it is not just the launch of raw on netflix it is a new launch of wwe worldwide
24:06main eventing wrestlemania meant that you were the number one guy in the industry
24:13i'm looking at netflix like there's only one debut raw broadcast
24:19let's do it start by putting over the match we're going to call seth out
24:25gets in your face there at some point boom
24:28ladies and gentlemen cm punk cm punk cm punk cm punk cm punk cm punk cm punk cm punk
24:40on its first night monday night raw on netflix one of the most anticipated matches ever
24:44you against seth rolle's personal animosity disdain seth right now looks and sounds like
24:50cm punk from 2013. i know you know everybody else knows this is your last chance
24:58one of two things is gonna happen you're gonna self-destruct like you always do or if by some
25:07miracle you have changed and you've got any gas left in this old tank maybe one day you'll be lucky
25:15enough to stand across the ring from me and then i will expose you for the fraud that you are
25:24i think to understand you have to talk about the history between myself and seth rollins and it goes
25:34back quite a bit you're talking about a 16 year old seth rollins came to cm punk and asked him to train
25:42him for free now that entitlement i think has carried over into the adult seth rollins now i don't claim
25:51to do those things because i wanted to thank you i recognized that that 16 year old kid had all the
25:57potential in the world and in my absence from this company seth did a fantastic job of filling that
26:03vacuum but simply put the starters back second string got to sit back down on the bench
26:21back to the house that i built when you abandoned ship i got nothing left to say who's the bootlicker
26:29now bitch come on i got nothing left to say have a microphone i don't need a mic i don't need a
26:37mic i don't need a mic i don't need a mic if he was right here right now
26:41you want the six beginning and the end it's my time now baby
26:48ladies and gentlemen in 19 nights the series premiere let me applaud and then wait
26:55yeah so before we get into anything deeper than that let's talk about gorilla position
27:14you know years ago when tv production started to become a thing
27:19gorilla monsoon very famous wrestler he was timing things and controlling things
27:30from the area right before talent would walk out to go to the ring that became known as gorilla position
27:38gorilla position in today's world it is the epicenter of everything we do the show is run from there
27:45the gorilla position is probably the most important position in the arena have a great show guys
27:56you basically control the world that night your world the world wrestling entertainment is controlled
28:04from the gorilla position
28:05you know the gorilla position is very unique in every arena is custom built however the the inside and
28:16the workings of it are the same there's primarily three tables set up inside gorilla position there's
28:22one table where triple h and bruce pritchard are sitting there's another table where billy kidman who is
28:29our producer responsible for timing out the show and keeping tabs on times next to him will sit the
28:34respective match producer as a producer i'm basically the liaison if you will between the talent and the
28:42heads of creative stay tight right here he'll convert this over
28:50nice all of our producers are former in-ring talents so for example chris park who was known as abyss
28:57another match producer is bobby rood michael hayes from the fabulous free birds is our longest tenured
29:06producer and bruce pritchard is the executive director of the creative writing team
29:14so the mechanics during the match for me and the reason i'm wearing a headset is i'm talking to the
29:18truck keeping them about 10 or 15 seconds ahead of what's going on in the ring so that the cameras
29:24capture the story that we're trying to tell the whole story is we want to catch puck looking to
29:29the top of the cage for this last one bunk's eyes yeah there it is that is a great shot another thing
29:36that i'm doing on that headset as well is i'm talking to the referees the referees can hear me
29:41we need to go spider we need to go get him there quick i told him i told him the producers are talking
29:49to the referees all right stay with jacob braun's going to meet him with a chair that he's pulling
29:54from behind timekeepers it's a whole nother world in my earpiece so the fans you guys are seeing just
29:59two wrestlers wrestling you know but in my ear i'm listening to at least in a match like five different
30:04things jacob jacob okay everybody's good he's selling if the talent needs to pick up their energy
30:13needs to have more urgency needs to slow down let something breathe whatever that instruction is
30:20it goes right through the ref be careful i'm swinging the chair near the fans
30:27brock be careful oh damn it do not push fans right to the gun right to the back to the back again
30:34oh those are extras oh god yes those are extras time is probably the biggest pitfall that we need
30:44to look out for i can relay messages through the referees to the talent so a lot of times hey guys we
30:50only have two minutes left we're not gonna be able to fit all four of this in so that becomes stressful
30:54going heavy or going short are equally bad so plan a hit your time plan b hit your time how much time
31:07we in oh we're good seven and eight lives we're good we're good we're real good our business is about
31:14telling stories it's awesome thanks everything we want it more in the epicenter of making that happen
31:22in real time live is gorilla position
31:43larry
31:44get me up get me up get me up good boy good boy and go to work okay
31:58i just feel this uh incredible weight of pressure and responsibility and
32:19these are the moments in where i move the best this is where i thrive
32:22calm waters don't make good sailors
32:30i think everybody needs a little bit of the adversity
32:36maybe a little less but the adversity is a good thing
32:39the day came and um it was just stressful
33:04just plain and simple stressful i i just didn't have any
33:14brain cells working that day
33:19it felt like this was the biggest show of the year
33:22also it was living my big blow-off match as well i had all these things going through my mind
33:36i don't know if i prepared i definitely didn't sleep i don't know if i'm dehydrated
33:41i know that i'm not ready for this
33:51i was almost in tears
33:58just couldn't switch on at all
34:02i didn't even know what makeup i wanted
34:09i had gear made because it was such a big deal and i didn't even end up wearing it i just wore
34:15something else because i was like i i can't think i can't put that on i don't think it looks good

38:12the hits keep coming
38:16i enjoy when our audience takes over and trying to figure out that rubik's cube and that riddle of
38:23what do i do now this is what this year is about
38:29it's about making moments and who am i going to face at wrestlemania who am i going to face in my

39:41i like to go to priest and i like to just like go over what i'm gonna be doing out there
40:04yeah it's a lot just be prepared to cut and because you can't just rush through everything
40:11without your emotion so it was just him pretty much telling me like less is more which is a massive
40:18thing in this business like less is really more like i said either slapping the mat or just a
40:23fucking scream but like to yourself not even for the crowd it's just realistic you know what i mean
40:28you're like and you stand up and you didn't catch that and then you i mean mouth something if you
40:33want to say something like but naturally for real like to look at her and be like now i'm gonna
40:37fucking kill you without the fuck but take it easy but then it's so weird because like i went from
40:46having an emotional breakdown and a massive panic attack to hearing my music walking out there and being completely fine
40:54i'll eat sleep
41:10tonight an opportunity for rhea ripley to get a title back
41:15if you look up the word superstar in the dictionary that woman's face would be on that page rhea ripley
41:24has it all and they're just wanting to really blow that match out of the water
41:37i feel like i've been living groundhog day for like the past two and a half years
41:45so now that this is the end it's kind of weird
41:51looking for a rip tie now on morgan's rip tie by ripley stacks up morgan for the championship
41:57morgan checked out it was just hard coming up with a different way to do it all
42:02but we kind of like grabbed the ball and ran with it
42:08referee didn't see it cover all right we still got about 45 seconds until we're back let her now 45
42:15seconds she can grab a hold of the chance grab that hold
42:22live and i really just wanted to go off with a bang trying to fight back and somehow
42:27get into this looking for oblivion yet again this time intercepted rhea intercepted live not this
42:36time around rhea says looking into the eyes of rhea bloody ripley the reaction for her is incredible
42:46it's hard not to look at her as the most captivating
42:53women on our roster
42:54rhea again setting up morgan for another rip tie
43:00rhea's not done yet
43:02a second rip tie
43:03third of the match covered
43:07rhea quickly finished the women's world title
43:11and new
43:13ladies and gentlemen strapped a rocket to her back
43:17put monday night ball on it oh what is this idiot doing of course we all know dominic's a gold digger
43:26of course he wants rhea back she's the champ now rhea's face

44:26on your aura is awesome
44:31so good so proud of you thank you
44:36today was a completely different feeling i know how much pressure was riding on this i mean i think
44:42it was a very successful night we went out there we um the crowd was into it the entire time so i'm
44:50i'm grateful to everyone here at wwe for letting the little girl in me from athlete south australia
