00:00Good morning, Mr. Mayor. Good morning. The Trump administration, well, Trump has issued an EO to make it easier to institutionalize unhoused people.
00:08Do you agree with it? And if not, how would Chicago fight it?
00:12Should you repeat that question in his executive order to do what?
00:15To make it easier to institutionalize unhoused people.
00:19Institutionalize them?
00:20Yes.
00:22You mean to incarcerate them?
00:24It's not jail, but take them if they seem to need treatment, whether forcibly or voluntarily.
00:32Well, you know, look, I've, you know, made critical investments within our Department of Family Support Services to work in a strategic and a sensitive, thoughtful way of how we treat those who are unhoused, some of whom have severe mental health issues.
00:49You know, so, you know, my approach is what we have done, you know, as we have worked to work within these encampments around the city to find services and support for these individuals.
01:01You know, I believe that the best way in which we go about doing that is to help move people along and convince them that these are the services that are beneficial for them.
01:11That's my approach.
01:14You know, I think anything that you do to force something on someone, you're certainly not setting them up for success.
