00:00This is how Nissan violated Porsche.
00:02Only six months after the launch of the Nissan GT-R,
00:06it completed the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 29 seconds.
00:09This result was 9 seconds faster than even legendary supercars like the Bugatti Veyron,
00:14Ferrari F430, and any Porsche.
00:16It was a shock, and no one believed it.
00:18Journalists soon called the GT-R a supercar killer,
00:22but Porsche couldn't just accept this.
00:23Their engineers were wondering how the heavier GT-R could be so much faster
00:27than even their track-focused Porsche 911 GT2.
00:30So Porsche bought a GT-R and had their test driver,
00:33a two-time world rally champion Walter Rorl, take it around the Nürburgring,
00:37though he couldn't quite reach a lap time better than 7 minutes and 54 seconds.
00:41Porsche immediately accused Nissan of cheating,
00:44claiming they used track-specific semi-slick tires.
00:47In response to this, Nissan invited some journalists, and right in front of them,
00:50they completed the Nürburgring even faster,
00:52and this time the GT-R was surely on standard factory tires.
00:55So Nissan recommended that Porsche's test driver signed up for some driving lessons.
