00:00A woman was arrested on Monday at Kuala Lumpur International Airport after allegedly attempting
00:05to smuggle nine exotic animals out of the country. The 39-year-old local was detained
00:11at 9.30 p.m. at KLIA Terminal 1 while preparing to board a flight to India.
00:18During a routine baggage check, officers from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency
00:23discovered four suspected siamang, four sugar gliders, and one monkey, believed to be a macaque,
00:30hidden in her luggage. All the animals are protected species and are believed to be part
00:36of an illegal international wildlife trade. The seizure is estimated to be worth 127,000 ringgit.
00:44The woman was taken to the KLIA police station for further investigation. The case is being
00:49investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008.
