Tua Tagovailoa addresses the Tyreek Hill situation on the NFL network, where do things stand with him? Can he gain the trust of his teammates?
Transcript
00:00so to talk about loa he was on nfl network this weekend and uh did an interview with uh cam wolf
00:07bucky brooks and was uh talking a lot of things but obviously everybody wanted to get his feelings
00:12on the tyreek hill situation which he addressed a little bit i thought well with his media session
00:17last week but i think he was pretty honest pretty honest about him everybody he honest posh i think
00:24everybody was probably in line with what he said it was it wasn't a shock he didn't go out of his way
00:30including tyreek yeah um well let's hear a little bit from two of you for those who didn't hear this
00:37was uh when cameron wolf asked him about uh where things stand with tyreek here's what uh
00:44two i had to say on nfl network you mentioned growth and leadership like earlier this week we were
00:48talking to you about tyreek and obviously he had the moment last year where he says i'm out bro and
00:53everybody saw that and and you talked about the relationship building you have to do to me i saw
00:59an accountability a level of leadership that maybe what we wouldn't have saw from you year one year
01:03two can you maybe take us through your process there and your relationship there no doubt i i would say
01:10from that that comment last year um yeah you know it's it's not like only one person was going to hear
01:19that like cheetah had to have known that okay if i'm if i'm saying this you know i'm i'm gonna make
01:25sure the team knows i'm gonna make sure the quarterback notes i'm gonna make sure the the
01:30fans know i'm gonna make sure everybody knows the league knows i'm gonna keep everybody in on notice
01:34when i make this uh when i make this comment and could it have been in the heat of the moment sure you
01:41could say that but at the end of the day it came out and whether you portrayed it to be something
01:47different because you're you're a competitor or not that's not up for you to decide that's up for
01:53people in their their own minds to to create that whatever they they thought that that meant for them
01:58right and so just like anybody else like yeah of course cheetah cheetah's a great player phenomenal
02:04player but in the locker room that's that's that's where where where everything the nitty-gritty
02:10the the the the the relationships the hard conversations like that's where you build each
02:16other up that's why you know you you kind of work on on on each other as well you have those
02:20conversations there b-roy said that that was the first thing leeway said after the incident
02:27like don't worry about what talking to the media he has to get the trust of the guys in the locker
02:32yeah for sure i learned one of the first lessons that i learned when i got into the league you were
02:40running back nobody cares on if the coaching staff likes what you do you better have you better have
02:51the love of the five guys blocking for you because what they are willing to do if they know you wanted
02:58them or they know you giving your all will be different if just the coaches like you and that
03:06has been true in every sport that i've seen and that we've all seen when a team likes you right for
03:14example in basketball if team don't like you and you go get pummeled ain't nobody there to back you up
03:22if a team love you it's about to be a street fight terry roger's only good moment from last year was
03:29punching a man thompson right in the face for throwing tyler but that's but that's but that and
03:35that doesn't that shows the respect that other players have for tyler and and so when you lose that
03:42right it may not show up um in all situations but there'll be situations where somebody could have
03:52dudes back and they just say he ain't with us like that here's the uh the rest of two his comments uh
03:59in that answer to camel than bucky brooks on nfl network reek is going through his own phase of of
04:05who he wants to become as a man in this league who he wants to become as a father uh for his kids and
04:11i said this in the previous interview you know it it's never too late for anybody to want to change man
04:16like regardless of what that looks like for them that's their stepping stone that's their journey and
04:21that's what it is and we're still continuing to build that relationship um but if that happened
04:27maybe three years ago you know i i can understand what you're saying i probably wouldn't have because
04:32in my mind i'm like i don't want to be talking bad about somebody or you know because i wouldn't
04:38want that done to to me but i don't feel it's me talking bad about my teammate kind of what you said
04:44i'm just trying to hold him accountable because that's what we're trying to do with with everybody on
04:48our team and if this is what we say the standard is then that's what the standard is and nobody's
04:52exempt from it yep agreed agreed that you know when you have a player no matter how great he is
05:01when he doesn't act above the special teams guy when you go in that locker room everybody loves that dude
05:09right i would say that was one of the glaring differences between chris carter and randy moss
05:19right not saying that uh chris carter was all about winning so he wasn't a throw me the damn ball type guy
05:26right but you always knew having a conversation with chris carter he wasn't one of you whereas randy
05:37randy we gonna eat chicken wings we go and hang out and then he go out and catch three passes for 150
05:44on thanksgiving right and so there's different levels to it you know what do we think about after
05:52this interview happened do with it what you will could be something wait what nothing why you gotta
05:59throw tovin into i'm just saying could be something well let me tell you what happened
06:05who you i don't have comments little tyreek hill thing
06:11tyreek hill uh-huh apparently has been doing good with coming out with everybody and you know
06:17stretching with the team oh he's not coming out late team right then today came out late came out
06:23late uh he practiced like this but what i was what i would say is this and somebody will get in his ear
06:36and believe it or not if he has a legitimate excuse the coach will let everybody else know so they
06:43they don't think that he's doing tyreek things but it's not up to anybody in that locker room to make
06:53the situation right other than tyreek nobody else did anything right and how he chooses to show
07:01that yeah i'm one of you guys and i'm with the team and and it's time for me to get some get right
07:07right right because i've been humbled um he's got he's got to be the guy to show that so what does
07:16that mean a lot of i don't i don't know but if nobody knows what happened you best believe there's
07:23some eyebrows on the on the field when he comes out going here we go again yeah right right people go
07:32smoke so think about it this way okay does that mean if tyreek start the season have a 200 yard game
07:41that he gonna be back to being tyrika last year where he can just do whatever he wants i don't
07:47think look this is just me with him okay i don't trust anything that he says and this is nothing that
07:53like you you can't trust anything that he says and i've always said this he's not a liar he's a
07:58whopper teller he'll go one way or the other way completely right you can't you can't take anything
08:04that he says at face value but you know there's certain things you can't say sure and what happened
08:11at the end of last year is a no no you can't say that it's a no right for sure okay all right but i'm
08:16just uh but but i'm looking at it look i love what two is doing i think two and i think the fact
08:21that he's got that accountability look obviously tyreek hill knows he needs two to be successful
08:25we saw how much he hated playing with those backups last year i can't imagine yeah we all
08:31saw it but i'm just telling you that you know i i don't quite have my arms around oh this is going
08:39to be okay with tyreek yet i don't wow wow damaged me thing hey dead god i just got hit with two body
08:48shots and i have to take a standing eight count you got you got the oscar de la hoya right now
08:53that thing hit three seconds to
09:00to factor in and now you on one knee like this speed it says a whopper eater can always step out a whopper
09:07teller
09:11you're not gonna make it uh you're not gonna make it bro i think the ref called
09:15wow so look i think you know it what sucks isn't what's unfortunate about this is
09:28tyreek has put himself in a situation where the only thing that matters is his actions
09:37right i think nobody cares what he has to say they just want to see what kind of teammate he is
09:44what kind of accountability and what kind of standard he's held to and i think um that's kind of what
09:52what tua said right like yeah this is this is an ongoing thing so what happens when you're in that
10:03situation of tyreek is that everything you do is under a microscope and i'm not talking about playing
10:11that's what sucks like he has he has gotten to the point where it's not even about his playing
10:19ability anymore it's about all the other stuff when you think about what happened last offseason
10:26how the season started what's going on now right everybody's like we know tyreek can play
10:34it's the other stuff that's you know and that's the only person that can fix that is him i have a
10:40question guys sure you know now that they've asked this question to tour and he's responding in
10:46the way that a lot of people wanted him to respond right so you know what's going to happen in the
10:51first at least four or five weeks of the season obviously everything wins and losses matters and
10:57everything like that but in the context of the winning if tyreek's not getting as many targets or
11:05receptions as he once had did right people there's going to be a narrative that for sure
11:11but you want me to tell you what i do you want me to tell you what teams do this is a fact you get
11:17anytime you talk to a guy that plays for another team or whatever right they look at a team and
11:24usually every team has one of those receivers right where they're the guy they and and what they do is
11:32early on in the game they do everything to make the quarterback's eyes go in a different direction
11:38right so as as a defense i can eliminate tyreek it may take two or three players it may take a rolling
11:48of the defense but if i'm if that's your sole goal and two is chewing you up on the other side of the
11:55field then you got to just accept that and we got to see that but football football wise rightly right
12:01right story wise no i know i know especially if like waddle's getting a lot of reception everybody
12:10gonna say oh they just turned to throw it to waddle and stay no he's too intoxicating to throw the
12:15football too like he's gonna be he's gonna be available he's gonna be there for and and two is
12:20gonna give him the football like i get it it could be a thing if we want to be a thing but i think you
12:24said it vlad for on the on the front end of it it's record like if the team is not playing well
12:29that's what's gonna make it a molotov cocktail of oh we're gonna be looking for the outs i don't
12:36think a dolphins team that's playing well doesn't have tyreek being like nullified i think part of
12:43that i would i think she was gonna get him the football i would agree with that but i think it's
12:47and i think it's part of the reason why they weren't so crazy about paying johnny like i think
12:52they were like like let's be real about it we need to get back to giving these guys the football more
