00:00Good afternoon. My name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts, editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely
00:06speaking. And to Sophie Kull. Now, exciting time. Sophie, this is your first film, your
00:11debut film. It sounds like you've pretty much done everything, producing, writing, co-directing,
00:16etc. And you are in it. It's an hour long and it's a very intriguing supernatural romance
00:24called A Requiem for Desire. Now, set the scene. Wow. Set the scene. You explained it so well.
00:32I've got nothing else to say now. Yes, you have. How does it work? What's it all about,
00:37would you say? Well, A Requiem for Desire. A girl falls in love with a ghost who happens
00:44to be her lover from the Victorian era, where she used to live as well in a past life. So
00:51it is a dreamy period romance for all the romantics out there. Absolutely. But with
00:57that supernatural element, why is that there? Do you believe in ghosts? Is that where that
01:03comes from? Oh, la la. Well, you know, why not? I think it's possible. I've got no proof
01:12of other wives. So... Well, no one can tell you you're wrong if you say yes then, can there?
01:19Yeah. But it sounds like you might. But it is a beautiful love story.
01:24And tell me a bit about the character. She's Rose and she's Lily in the two different timeframes.
01:31Exactly. A big romantic. She wants to follow her heart, whether it's in the present or Victorian
01:37era. But she follows her mind more than anything. And in the past and in the present, she has
01:46this husband and this fiancé in the present like times, who is actually assaulting her and preventing
01:53her from following her heart. So there's these little challenges. And it just was a way for me to
02:02pass on a message to all the ladies out there and the men who don't want to go, well, who are scared
02:09to go for what they want and say, just follow your heart, follow your dreams. And sometimes it's
02:15difficult to say no. And especially when someone's trying to manipulate you in different ways and
02:22take over you. But just go for what you feel inside, for what your guts say.
02:28Oh, that's a fantastic message. And you've got a London premiere. What are you hoping for
02:34next? You're still thinking about the contracts, working out contracts for where it could be
02:38screened. But what are the ambitions?
02:41Well, the ambitions are being met right now. I mean, I have a nice little turnout of names
02:49coming to a private premiere, which is very, very exciting. And yes, I've got a few channels
02:55interested. So really, it's about me making the right decisions or just making a decision.
03:05As you know, it is my first film that I've ever made completely by myself. And so finding
03:13out the right answers to your questions and making all those decisions are quite something.
03:21So, yeah, hopefully, fingers crossed.
03:25But the fact is, you've done it. You've achieved it. So congratulations. Lovely to speak to you
03:30again. And really hoping that you have a fabulous response to the film. It sounds so intriguing.
03:36Great to speak to you.
03:37Oh, thank you. It's always lovely to speak to you.
