Desperate to save Mitsuha and her town, Taki revisits a sacred shrine and drinks a ritual sake left by Mitsuha, which allows him to momentarily re-enter her body on the day of the disaster. With the help of Mitsuha's friends, Sayaka and Tessie, he attempts to convince the town to evacuate.  During twilight, their timelines briefly intersect, and Taki and Mitsuha finally meet face-to-face in their own bodies. They try to write their names on each other's hands so they won't forget, but twilight ends before Mitsuha can finish writing.  Mitsuha is sent back to her own time and manages to convince her father, the mayor, to evacuate the town, saving the residents from the comet's impact. Both Taki and Mitsuha forget each other's names, but a lingering sense of loss and connection remains.  Five years later, they cross paths again in Tokyo, feeling a powerful sense of familiarity. They approach each other on a staircase and simultaneously ask, "Your Name?" leaving their reunion and future open-ended yet hopeful.
