00:00:00on march 21st 1998 23 year old amy bradley boarded a royal caribbean cruise with her parents and
00:00:16younger brother it was supposed to be a fun vacation but just three days later amy vanished
00:00:22from the ship without a trace she was last seen in the early morning hours of march 24th on the
00:00:28balcony of their cabin 30 minutes later she was gone the ship was searched so was the water but
00:00:35there was no sign of amy anywhere over the years multiple sightings have been reported across the
00:00:41caribbean and beyond leaving her family to wonder if amy is still out there somewhere waiting to be
00:00:47found
00:00:47so
00:00:54hey everyone welcome back to detective perspective my name is derek levassar i'm a licensed private
00:01:22investigator and former police detective each week i'll be covering an unsolved case and story
00:01:28format i'll then give you my perspective on the investigation and provide the contact information
00:01:33for the individuals or organizations connected to the case so that if you have any tips you can
00:01:38contact them directly and maybe you can help solve a case so if you're someone who's interested in true
00:01:44crime specifically unsolved cases and you would like to hear my opinion on those investigations
00:01:49please consider subscribing whether you're watching on youtube or listening on apple podcasts
00:01:54spotify or whatever platform you use so before we talk about this week's episode just a little
00:02:00announcement here there may be a slight change in the schedule for the show over the next couple
00:02:07months i have an announcement that's going to be coming out it's not related to to the show or crime
00:02:13weekly but it is a pretty big announcement it's going to be something fun and it's going to cause me to be
00:02:19traveling quite often almost every week and the last thing i would ever do is phone it in on one of
00:02:26these cases and just half-ass it and only just read the script and write a couple notes and just
00:02:31record it for the sake of recording it i want to give these cases the time they deserve and if for some
00:02:36reason i'm unable to do that i'm not just going to fast track it and put it out there for the sake of
00:02:41doing it so i know you guys will be fine with that i'm hoping i can still work around it but if it gets
00:02:46to a point where i'm unable to give the attention to these cases that they deserve i'm not going to
00:02:52stop completely it may just be a slight delay but i just want to give you the heads up i know a lot
00:02:56of you rely on consistency it's important to me as well so if that does happen over the next couple
00:03:02months i do apologize ahead of time we're coming up on the hundredth episode so i want to make sure
00:03:07i get these out but once i make the announcement you'll know why for some of you you'll be listening to
00:03:12this on monday others will watch it on tuesday and the announcement should be shortly after that if
00:03:18not already out but if that's the case just stand by it will absolutely be out before the end of this
00:03:24week so let's dive into this week's case amy bradley this is not an obscure case a lot of people have
00:03:30heard about this one it's just recently came out on netflix it's been covered on investigation
00:03:34discovery there's a lot of internet sleuths that have talked about it a lot of reddit posts
00:03:39so this isn't the typical case that i do here but it is a mystery and and people have very strong
00:03:46opinions about this one and i'm not going to waste too much time in this opening this is all i'm going
00:03:52to say every week that i come here i give you my honest opinion i don't say a certain thing because
00:03:59that's what the masses think i don't try to gain followers or get clicks by being sensational and what
00:04:05my opinions are about the case i think you guys know by now i'm a straight shooter i like to consider
00:04:11myself a pragmatic thinker i add up all the information i look at what we have and i tell you
00:04:17what i truly believe and there's going to be many occasions where you don't agree with me and you'll
00:04:22sure as hell let me know about it and that's okay that's why i love this show i feel like we've
00:04:27created a culture where it's okay to dissent to disagree to have a dialogue back and forth and talk
00:04:34about your opinions and i've seen many cases where there have been people on youtube going back and
00:04:40forth discussing their thoughts and at the end of it one side says you know what i didn't think of it
00:04:45that way thanks i'm going to look at those things you referenced and i'll get back to you because now
00:04:50you've got me thinking and i love that because as i've said before in many instances that's why these
00:04:56cases aren't solved what you have is a group of individuals who are stuck in their own ways
00:05:01they come to one conclusion as a group and there's no way to move them off of it and that's why
00:05:0710 20 30 years later the case still isn't solved we're not going to do that here i'm going to go
00:05:13through amy's case i'm going to give you all the information i'm going to tell you what i think at the
00:05:18end even though i don't have the answer and then i want to hear your opinions based on what we have
00:05:23where you think we should go and if for the people out there who have already developed an opinion
00:05:28opinion is it the same or has it changed and i'll tell you right now there's a lot of information
00:05:33about this case online and not all of it has been verified so i might mention a few of those things
00:05:39here and there but i'm going to try to stick to as many of the facts as possible because i want you
00:05:44to at least have a solid foundation but i have a lot to cover i don't want to waste any more time
00:05:49let's dive into this week's case amy lynn bradley was born on may 12 1974 in petersburg virginia
00:05:58to her parents iva and ron she had a brother named brad who was two and a half years younger
00:06:03growing up amy was known for being athletic she worked as a lifeguard and a swim coach and she
00:06:09was such a talented basketball player that she earned a scholarship to longwood college
00:06:13after graduating amy moved back in with her parents and took a job as a waitress by 1998 23 year old amy
00:06:21had accepted a new position with a computer consulting firm and moved into her own apartment but before
00:06:26she was scheduled to start her new job amy and her family took a seven-day cruise with royal caribbean
00:06:31according to the richmond times dispatch the cruise started and ended in san juan puerto rico
00:06:37which stops in aruba carousel saint martin and saint thomas the ship was called the rhapsody of the seas
00:06:44it was 11 stories tall with rooms for more than 2400 guests and a crew of 765 people amy was
00:06:53actually very excited for the vacation but she was also a little nervous she had a fear of heights
00:06:59and the open ocean so the idea of being on a massive cruise ship made her a little uneasy on march 21st the
00:07:05bradleys flew to san juan and boarded the ship for the first two days everything went great the family
00:07:11was having a blast and they got to know the crew pretty quickly especially because several of them
00:07:17seemed to take an interest in amy you see she stood out a little bit she was young she was beautiful
00:07:22and she had multiple tattoos something that was still pretty uncommon at that time now as far as
00:07:28her tattoos she had a green and blue gecko wrapped around her navel a japanese symbol on her right ankle
00:07:34and a sun on her lower back but the one that got the most attention was a tasmanian devil playing
00:07:40basketball on her shoulder and people seemed to gravitate towards that when it was always a
00:07:45conversation starter on the morning of march 23rd the ship docked in aruba which was the first stop
00:07:50so the family got off and explored the area together so after exploring aruba the family returned to the
00:07:56boat they got cleaned up and then they attended a formal dinner on board now this was the the fancy
00:08:02night of the cruise and if you've ever been on a cruise before you know what i'm talking about
00:08:06you go down you'll have your dinner but everyone kind of dresses up a little bit more than the other
00:08:11nights and this is also the night where you'll go down and you'll take your family photos because
00:08:16everyone's dressed nicely so they have the photographers right outside the dining hall you
00:08:21go down there and everyone takes their family portraits in this case those photos that were captured
00:08:26would be the last photos ever taken of amy according to the richmond times dispatch at 1 a.m
00:08:33on what was now march 24th the ship left aruba and began heading toward carousel around that same time
00:08:40iva and ron went back to the cabin for the night while brad and amy who had changed into something
00:08:45a little bit more casual made their way down to the ship's disco while they were down there a member
00:08:50of the ship's band blue orchid started dancing with amy his name was alistair douglas but he also
00:08:56went by yellow brad would later recall that douglas was flirting with amy and getting a little too
00:09:01close amy even told brad that she had to tell him to back off by 2 45 a.m they were still at the
00:09:08club and they were having a great time brad was dancing with a few women and amy was chatting it
00:09:13up with the members of the band and the dj at 3 40 a.m brad headed back to the room and about five
00:09:19minutes later amy returned as well the two of them sat on the balcony and smoked brad eventually went
00:09:26back inside to get some sleep but amy said that she wanted to stay out a little longer she was feeling
00:09:31a little nauseous and said that the fresh air was helping by around 5 30 a.m the ship had entered the
00:09:37inland channel that leads into the harbor of curacao ron woke up and said that he saw brad asleep in bed
00:09:43and amy was still out on the balcony now she was also sleeping but in the lounge chair and she had a
00:09:49pack of cigarettes next to her what's important to note here is that according to ron the sliding
00:09:55glass door to the balcony was closed around 30 minutes later at 6 a.m ron woke up again this time
00:10:03the sliding door was open and amy was gone the cigarettes that i had just noted that were beside
00:10:09her were also missing and her clothes had changed her original shirt was now draped over the chair
00:10:14and it appeared that she had put some jeans on now one thing i do want to note is that her shoes were
00:10:20still out on the balcony but she did bring several pairs with her so it's possible she had taken
00:10:24another her driver's license was missing as well so at that point ron just figured that she had went to
00:10:30grab something to eat and would be back soon but unfortunately she would never come back we have
00:10:37so much more to cover in this case there's a few different curveballs we're going to get into it

00:13:08hungryroot.com slash detective code detective all right so before the break we were talking about
00:13:20ron amy's father waking up seeing his son brad in bed and amy was on the balcony sleeping she had a pack
00:13:28of cigarettes on her left side and the screen door to the balcony was closed then he wakes up again around
00:13:35six o'clock 30 minutes later and brad's still in bed but the sliding glass door is open and amy's
00:13:42gone she's nowhere to be found and he's thinking she's going to come back after a little bit but she
00:13:48never does and he became extremely concerned as you can understand so ron started searching the ship
00:13:54and he checked all the usual spots but after about an hour he returned to the room and then woke up brad
00:14:00and iva to let them know that he couldn't find amy at 7 a.m they went down to the help desk to report
00:14:06amy missing and they asked the staff to make an announcement to help search the ship but they were
00:14:11told that it was too early according to the new york times while all of this was happening the crew
00:14:16was also preparing to let passengers off the ship for a day in carousel and understandably the bradleys
00:14:22begged them to delay the disembarkment while the search for amy was going on but they refused all right
00:14:29so we're going to talk about this right now because sometimes i wait till the end but this is
00:14:33something we we should address right now because i know a lot of you are probably screaming at your
00:14:37computers or screaming at your phone saying damn you royal caribbean you're the reason she's missing
00:14:43i just want to give one quick disclosure i have been on multiple royal caribbean cruises i do enjoy them
00:14:49uh i'm not working for them i don't owe them anything i would go on any other cruise line so for anyone
00:14:55who says oh you just like their cruise that's why you're defending them it's not the case but you
00:14:58are entitled to your opinion i know why we're here and in hindsight yes i would have liked them to
00:15:03lock down the cruise ship but at the time let's be pragmatic about this all they have is an adult
00:15:09woman who's been missing for around an hour on this huge ship she could be anywhere she could be
00:15:16sitting on a deck level looking out at the ocean she could be at the gym she could be at one of the
00:15:23bars she could be in someone's room that happens a lot on cruises so there's a lot of
00:15:28explanations for why she hasn't been found that are not malicious in nature and as far as it being
00:15:35too early i don't think they were saying that's too early because she hasn't been missing long
00:15:40enough i think it was more so because it was so early in the morning they didn't want to wake everyone
00:15:44up and then as far as the decision not to lock down the boat and let people disembark to go enjoy
00:15:51their vacation you got to think about it from a business perspective there are many times where people
00:15:56go missing on cruises and they're perfectly fine unless you have something definitive to say that
00:16:01a person is in danger they can't stop the whole ship they are on a very tight schedule and it's
00:16:08regimented if you've ever been on a cruise ship before there's a certain time you can get off and
00:16:12a certain time you have to be back on or they're leaving you behind and you have hundreds of thousands
00:16:16of dollars at stake here this is a business first and without anything to say hey listen this person's
00:16:24life is in danger or they may be being held against their will they got to continue as scheduled so
00:16:30i don't disagree with this decision now knowing what i know like i said i wish they would have
00:16:36locked down the ship but i'm only putting myself in the headspace at that moment and if i'm being
00:16:41truly honest with you guys i i don't have a huge issue with this at this point maybe some of you do and
00:16:48i'd love to hear your thoughts on it but from where i'm sitting i'm not putting the blame at royal
00:16:53caribbean's feet for this so you have ron and iva down at the help desk and meanwhile brad's waiting
00:16:59on the pool deck hoping that he might see amy walk by as people are leaving the ship that's when
00:17:05musician alistair douglas who i mentioned earlier approaches him and says hey man i'm sorry about what
00:17:12happened to your sister and he also mentioned that he felt guilty now brad thought that exchange was
00:17:18extremely weird because at that point no one had made a public announcement about amy so after that
00:17:25weird exchange at around 7 50 a.m the announcement was finally made over the loudspeaker but it wasn't
00:17:31what amy's family had hoped for instead of asking passengers to look for her someone said will amy
00:17:38bradley please come to the help desk that was it so there you are 7 50 a.m they make the announcement
00:17:44so it was only about 50 minutes later which in a case like this could be the difference between life
00:17:48and death but i think they were waiting until a few more people were up in the morning going to
00:17:53breakfast and at that point based on this announcement it's pretty just informal they're
00:17:59not thinking she's in danger at this point they have to make this announcement all the time
00:18:03now if this had been a child it would have been completely different and they're very strict
00:18:08about that the kids have to wear bands that match the parents and it's a whole different thing but
00:18:13at this point they just say hey quote will amy bradley please come to the help desk and that's it and
00:18:18that's where i'm developing the opinion that when they say too early they're talking about time of the
00:18:22day and not necessarily how long she's been missing because shortly after they made that announcement
00:18:27although again it wasn't what the bradleys were hoping for so after that announcement was made
00:18:32ship employees told the bradleys to return to their room and wait for the chief security officer
00:18:37when he arrived he asked a few questions and requested a photo of amy according to style weekly
00:18:43later that afternoon the chief security officer told the bradleys that the ship staff had searched
00:18:49quote every nook and cranny but they hadn't found her now it sounded like they had done a pretty
00:18:55thorough search but the family later learned that the search had only included common areas
00:19:00and staff access zones none of the passenger rooms had been checked and again here's where i got to
00:19:08play a defense attorney for royal caribbean they are allowed to go into the rooms they do cleaning
00:19:15services but you have to respect the privacy of these other passengers you can't just go into the room
00:19:23whenever you you want you can knock on the door you can ask to go in but at this point during the day
00:19:28a lot of the cruise members a lot of the the passengers i should say have disembarked they're
00:19:35on the island they're in carousel they're visiting different places they're sightseeing or they're
00:19:41out of their room participating in whatever activities on the boat they don't even have the
00:19:46staff to go through every room at that point it would be a huge undertaking so i don't think the chief
00:19:52security officer should have said we searched every nook and cranny because obviously every nook and
00:19:58cranny would include all the passenger cabins which it did not so i understand why they didn't do those
00:20:05searches but the way it was worded to the bradleys was completely incorrect and he should have been
00:20:10more specific with what they actually did and so at this point you're probably asking yourself well
00:20:15what about cameras and you're not wrong because the family asked about possible surveillance footage
00:20:21and they were told that the ship's cameras weren't connected to any recording devices so even though
00:20:27there were monitors in place there was no video to review and this is a damn shame we're talking 1998
00:20:34i know now on on the cruise ships there's cameras everywhere and they're recording 24 7
00:20:40and i and i thought to myself and i was trying to find more information about this even though it
00:20:46wasn't recording there has to be someone monitoring these cameras right and so was there anybody
00:20:51looking at the monitors during that time did they see anybody who matched her description come out
00:20:57of her room and maybe go somewhere was she with anyone if that were the case we haven't heard about
00:21:02it there's been nothing to come out to say that there was a security person who was monitoring those
00:21:07monitors who said yeah i saw her leave her room at 6 a.m nothing that we're aware of and i think if it
00:21:13had happened we would have that information by now but yeah no dvr no recording devices even though
00:21:20it's 1998 i mean it seems pretty simple that you would have a way to document and record the video
00:21:27at that time because you could have something like this or or for legal reasons need it so the fact
00:21:32that they didn't have it i know it would have been more expensive at that time but when you're in a
00:21:36multi-billion dollar business i think you can afford a camera system that actually records now even though
00:21:43there wasn't any video recorded there was an electronic record showing that amy had used her
00:21:48key card to enter her cabin around 3 45 a.m but the system didn't track when passengers exited and that
00:21:54makes total sense if you've been to a hotel or you've been on a cruise you know that you use your
00:21:59key card to enter the room but you don't use it to exit you can just walk out and it automatically
00:22:04locks behind you so that makes sense but it does align with what we're hearing from ron and from brad
00:22:09right that brad and amy were out pretty late brad comes back first and then amy uses her key card to
00:22:16get into the room and then ron sees her at 5 30 and then by 6 she's gone so we do have that we do know
00:22:24that she went back to the room and it appears that what we're being told by her family members it does
00:22:29align so after the announcement is made amy doesn't show back up so then the bradley's meet with the
00:22:34ship's captain and he tells them that he's certain amy is no longer aboard she's either on shore in
00:22:41carousel or she had gone overboard because of that he said the best thing that the family could do was
00:22:47disembark and help with the search from land while the ship continued on to their next stop and just
00:22:52reading this out loud i know it sounds insensitive and i don't disagree with you how could he know for
00:22:58certain that she's no longer on the boat if something bad had happened to her she could have
00:23:04been taken against her will she could be held captive in a room as they're speaking remember
00:23:10they don't have dvrs he can't go back and confirm her last whereabouts he has no way to confirm she
00:23:16actually got off the boat she could be needing help right then and there and he's telling them to
00:23:22disembark doesn't make a lot of sense to me i don't like it i'm sure the conversation wasn't as
00:23:28amicable as i'm as i'm relaying it to you guys if i'm her father i'm extremely pissed off i'm not
00:23:35liking that response but again i'm just relaying what i've read what we've researched that's what
00:23:39was recommended for them to do and and that's exactly what they did so once the bradley's got off
00:23:45the ship they checked into a hotel and carousel and the following morning local authorities began
00:23:50coordinated sea and air searches which involved helicopters a warship low-flying radar planes
00:23:57and multiple boats scouring the sea and the coastline meanwhile the bradley's got in touch
00:24:02with the fbi and two agents were assigned to the case the agents accompanied the family back to the
00:24:08ship where an investigation began the fbi separated the bradley's and conducted individual interviews
00:24:14they later administered polygraph exams and according to the family's attorney they all passed and were
00:24:20officially ruled out as having any involvement in amy's disappearance i also want to note that the
00:24:25fbi also tried to search the bradley's cabin but by that point it had already been cleaned so that was
00:24:32a dead end so if there's anybody out there who believes that the bradley's may be lying and that
00:24:36something could have went down in that room if it did we wouldn't know because at this point it had
00:24:42already been cleaned out however even though the room was cleaned i do want to mention one important fact
00:24:48there are multiple reports that there was a table on the balcony and it was found pushed up against
00:24:54the railing however i can't find anything conclusive to say for sure who moved that table was it amy was
00:25:02it someone else was it a maintenance worker who went in there to clean the room we just don't know but
00:25:07the fact that amy was last seen on that balcony and we're going to talk about the height of the
00:25:11balconies railing later having that table up against it does bring some things into question
00:25:17but as far as who moved it we just don't know after speaking with the family the fbi began meeting with
00:25:23the passengers on board and that's when they learned that amy had been seen at the ship's nightclub with
00:25:28musician alistair douglas not long before she disappeared during this interview douglas said that
00:25:34amy had joined the band for a drink after their march 23rd performance he parted ways with her around
00:25:401am and took the staff elevator while amy walked in a different direction and he didn't see where
00:25:46she had went now what was interesting about this interview is that he said he was woken up around
00:25:516am by a cruise line manager asking if amy was with him he went on to say that his room was searched
00:25:57as well as the rooms of the other band members that same day but nothing was found and i think you
00:26:03guys know why i'm pointing this out as interesting because according to the bradleys
00:26:07they didn't go downstairs and report amy missing until 7am and yet douglas is saying that he was
00:26:15woken up by a cruise line manager an hour prior to that and we also have to touch on the fact that
00:26:23the cruise is saying they don't have access to dvrs they don't have anything recorded so how would
00:26:29they be able to go back and confirm that alistair was the last person with amy i can only assume that
00:26:35when they noticed amy was missing brad had mentioned that there was a guy who was in the
00:26:40band down at the bar who was being a little weird with amy before they left so when they went down to
00:26:45the help desk they probably relayed that information to them and i'm assuming they downplayed it and said
00:26:52oh no it's she's probably just walking around but behind the scenes they went to their cruise line
00:26:57manager and said hey we think this guest might be with the band member so the cruise line manager went
00:27:03down there and was trying to find her because if she was down there he was going to say hey she
00:27:08needs to get out of here now because the parents are looking for her and listen we're all adults
00:27:12here i think most of us are if you're not an adult you shouldn't be watching or listening to this
00:27:16would it be the first time that a passenger hooked up with a crew member probably not so they might have
00:27:24run into this before maybe even some worse scenarios where you have someone who's in a relationship or
00:27:28whatever and their significant other is looking for him and come to find out that we're the crew
00:27:34member right there could be a lot of scenarios here so i would think that although there's a
00:27:40discrepancy in the time it could either be off because of allister or because the bradleys where
00:27:45more than likely this was happening simultaneously as they're relaying amy's information her last
00:27:51whereabouts who she was with they're also going downstairs to try to find her as fast as possible
00:27:56that's my assumption you guys may disagree and to be fair to anybody who does according to allister
00:28:04it was 6 a.m and according to the bradleys they didn't report her missing until 7 a.m so
00:28:10somebody's wrong here or there's more of the story that we don't know about now i do want to mention as
00:28:15a side note here that a royal caribbean spokesperson later said that douglas voluntarily took a polygraph
00:28:21test administered by the fbi and he passed however according to that new netflix documentary that
00:28:27came out a little over a week ago the polygraph was actually inconclusive so although they're saying
00:28:35one thing the doc is saying something different also that in the netflix doc they spoke to douglas's
00:28:41daughter and she said that she was not convinced he had nothing to do with this case she talked about
00:28:48douglas and some of his red flags and she said that she saw her father after he returned from the
00:28:54cruise and he was he was never the same and she goes on to say that she did observe some red flags
00:29:01in her father after he returned from the cruise that amy was on and he grew a lot more distant from her
00:29:08mother and then she reveals this shocking piece of information where she says that alistair her father
00:29:14had this bag and when she looked into it it was it was full of photos of white women who were not her
00:29:21mother which obviously she thought was extremely suspicious but that's in the netflix documentary
00:29:27strongly recommend you go watch it you may see bits and pieces in there and develop your own opinions on
00:29:34it i like to watch these things just to try to get a full perspective although i'm operating from the
00:29:40assumption that in any of these documentaries and on any of these shows not just netflix but they all
00:29:46have a tendency to sensationalize and embellish certain things or frame things a certain way
00:29:53depending on the direction they're going with the story i'm not saying that's happening here i'm just
00:29:58saying in general and being in the tv business i see it all the time i'll tell you right now on some of
00:30:02the shows i worked on i would work a case and then the producer would come to me and say well what if we
00:30:08framed it this way or what if we left this out just to leave a little suspense and i would say
00:30:12uh no we're gonna tell it how it is i'm not here to make the story better i'm here to find the truth
00:30:18so i i clashed with a lot of people because there was definitely a different opinion on how the show
00:30:25could go i wanted to treat it like an actual investigation they were trying to produce a show
00:30:30that would be interesting from the beginning to the end so that people would would actually watch the
00:30:35show frankly i didn't care if they watched i just wanted to get the truth i wanted to find answers
00:30:40for the family so i know for a fact that that happens again not saying it happened here but we
00:30:46have to be aware of it as we watch these documentaries and we take the information from them we have to
00:30:52always put it through a certain lens to understand that we might not be getting the full story and even
00:30:57when we are it could be framed in a way to depict a certain picture so let's go back to the ship because i will
00:31:03tell you after the fbi came in it was extensive in fact they even brought dogs aboard the ship but
00:31:09as far as i'm aware there was no sign of amy and after three days of searching royal caribbean
00:31:14officials told the bradleys that they believed amy had either left the ship voluntarily taken her own
00:31:20life by going overboard or suffered an accident and fell overboard and as you might expect the family
00:31:26did not believe any of those explanations they knew amy they didn't think she would have left the ship
00:31:32without telling anyone and there was nothing to suggest that she was suicidal the idea that she
00:31:38had fallen overboard didn't even make sense either because the railing was too high for that because
00:31:44you guys don't know it at this point but the railing essentially came up to amy's chest she was about
00:31:50five foot six inches tall so according to what i'm reading and there's going to be some fbi agents that
00:31:56talk about this as well the railings were pretty high and they would have been up about here if you're
00:32:02about chest high uh on amy so when you think about that for her to fall overboard even if she ran
00:32:09directly into it it would be very hard for her to tip over the top and then there's also that
00:32:13information that i relayed to you earlier where there's an indication according to ron that amy had
00:32:20changed her clothing because she had that shirt on initially and then it was seen on the back of the
00:32:24chair now i have a couple opinions on this yes it could it could indicate that she changed her clothes
00:32:30and then left the room to go walk around the ship or meet up with someone i could also make the
00:32:35argument that she changed her clothes went to the bathroom and then went back out on the balcony and
00:32:41something still could have happened that was a tragic accident so we have that information we have to
00:32:46acknowledge it we have to consider it but i think both theories are still in play depending on how you
00:32:51want to look at it so the bradleys received these explanations from the royal caribbean officials
00:32:58but their fear was that amy had been abducted by someone on board and either held on the ship
00:33:03or smuggled off somewhere into carousel and while that might sound far-fetched there are experts who
00:33:10believe this is possible steve reeves the editor of cruise line trade publication told unsolved
00:33:16mysteries quote there's rumor and legends surrounding slavery in the southern caribbean
00:33:20it's not uncommon knowledge in the maritime community that young white women are considered
00:33:26to be very desirable to foreign procurers and i'm going to put it out here right now for anyone
00:33:31who doesn't know i did dive into reddit i did look at some online forums and i can tell you there's a
00:33:37large population of people who get extremely offended by the notion of this theory they don't think
00:33:43it's possible and they think to a certain degree it's disrespectful to the crew members on that
00:33:49ship that because they're maybe not from the country they're all involved in some secret
00:33:54organization where they're looking and preying on on passengers who are left alone and they're going
00:33:59after the the white women and and basically taking them off the ships and selling them to people in
00:34:06these countries listen we're going to go over probability versus possibility there's no information out
00:34:13there right now there's no evidence to say that it's exculpatory that it's not possible right it would
00:34:18be very difficult to do and we're going to talk about it at the end and i can understand the frustration
00:34:24of certain people who say yeah it's easy to just to throw out this theory with zero evidence to support
00:34:30it and it makes the crew members and the people of those countries look terrible but listen we know human
00:34:35trafficking happens and we know that women especially when they're alone whether it's right here in my
00:34:41backyard or on a cruise ship they can be targeted so as long as i'm looking at it if there's nothing
00:34:47to definitively rule it out i'm considering all possibilities not trying to offend anybody but i want
00:34:53what we all want and that's to find amy so fast forward a little bit to march 28th the ship returned
00:34:59to sam juan and the bradley's decided to fly home the fbi continued to investigate and the bradley's
00:35:05launched a search of their own they offered 100 000 for any information about amy and sent mass emails
00:35:12to contacts throughout the caribbean and south america pleading for tips now responses started
00:35:19coming in and the family began to piece together more of amy's final hours on the ship they learned
00:35:25that three different witnesses had seen amy with allister douglas just before 6 a.m on march 24th
00:35:32the two of them were spotted taking the elevator to the nightclub and one person said douglas handed
00:35:37amy a drink and about 15 minutes later he was seen again this time leaving the upper deck alone
00:35:44brad thought back to that strange interaction he had with douglas before anyone outside the family
00:35:49even knew amy was missing so he and his parents decided to look into him a little further and
00:35:55according to style weekly they found a message board basically a a cruise ship computer bulletin board
00:36:00which warned female passengers of the rhapsody to stay away from this guy specifically to watch out
00:36:07for him that he was a bad dude then a taxi driver in carousel came forward and he told amy's family
00:36:14that he saw amy the day the ship was docked on the 24th according to him amy approached this cab
00:36:20urgently and asked where she could find a phone so he pointed her in the right direction but she walked
00:36:26off in the opposite direction he then said that he saw her again at different locations around the
00:36:32island then the family received another tip from a man in puerto rico now he goes on to say that his
00:36:39friend had seen a woman matching amy's description at a cruise terminal in san juan not long after the
00:36:45ship docked there on march 28th according to him the woman looked upset and was being forced into a taxi
00:36:51and before we go forward i want to say that we have to take all of this information seriously
00:36:56but none of these sightings have been confirmed by law enforcement the investigation continued but by
00:37:02november the fbi admitted that they were no closer to figuring out what happened to amy they stated
00:37:07quote we've pursued every angle from whether there was foul play a suicide or an accident and we have
00:37:13basically not gotten anywhere hoping to bring in more information the bradleys and investigators worked
00:37:18with america's most wanted on a segment about amy's case which aired in may of 1999 many potential
00:37:25sightings came in including one from a canadian man named david according to investigation discovery
00:37:32david said that he had been in playa porto marie in carousel with a friend in late 1998 when he saw
00:37:38two men and a woman walking together on the beach and real quickly playa porto marie is a beach in
00:37:44carousel so you would imagine that it's you know there's going to be other tourists there are other people
00:37:48around as these three individuals are walking on the beach but according to david as he passed them
00:37:54the woman turned around and looked at him after she overheard him speaking in english and david went
00:38:01on to say that the woman looked at him as if she was about to say something but as soon as she did
00:38:05one of the men kind of motioned her away and so she just put her head down turned away and and walked
00:38:12off into the distance without saying anything david went on to say that later that same day he saw the
00:38:18same group at a local cafe and this time he noticed that the woman kept looking at him so when he got
00:38:25home from canada he saw the segment about amy on america's most wanted and immediately recognized her
00:38:31as the same woman from the beach so he contacted authorities and gave a description of the men who had been
00:38:37with her and one of those men matched the same description of allister douglas and i will say the
00:38:44fbi believed that the lead was credible and they tried to verify david's story but unfortunately in
00:38:50the end they weren't able to corroborate any of it then in 2002 another tip came in this time from a
00:38:57former u.s navy officer named bill now he went on to say that in 1999 he had visited an illegal brothel
00:39:05in carousel and saw amy there with two men and another woman and at one point during this interaction
00:39:11when the group left her alone she approached him and she said that her name was amy bradley
00:39:16and that she had left the cruise ship to get drugs but now she was being held against her will
00:39:21she said they couldn't leave the island because quote they had her papers bill responded to her by
00:39:27saying hey listen there's a u.s ship at the port and you can go ask for help but she told him that
00:39:31wasn't an option now unfortunately bill didn't report this sighting at the time because he was
00:39:37afraid it would impact his naval career but after retiring he came forward and shared everything with
00:39:42the fbi unfortunately by the time he did the brothel had burned down and with it any potential evidence
00:39:49that could lead us to amy in 2003 another possible sighting was reported this time it was in san
00:39:56francisco witnesses claim they saw a woman matching amy's description with two men who they described
00:40:01as quote handlers they said the woman appeared distressed and when she gave bystanders what appeared
00:40:07to be a pleading look the men grabbed her and fled the area now the fbi released composite sketches of
00:40:13those men but nothing came from them fast forward to 2005 another tip came in this time from a witness
00:40:20who reported seeing someone who looked like amy in a department store bathroom in barbados according
00:40:26to the witness three men followed the woman into the bathroom threatened her and then briefly left
00:40:32her alone just before they returned the woman turned to the witness and said that her name was amy
00:40:37and that she was from virginia the men then came back and dragged her out of the bathroom now based on
00:40:43this report composite sketches were created of the woman believed to be amy and one of the men that she
00:40:49was reportedly with now as far as i can tell nothing has come from these sketches either but i will say
00:40:55you never know if you're watching on youtube as i'm describing all of these sketches that were created
00:41:00they're also on the screen as well so even if you're listening on audio mark down the time stamp take a
00:41:06second come over take a look at them you never know maybe this person is someone that you'll recognize
00:41:12according to investigation discovery another potential lead surfaced in 2005 when the bradleys received an
00:41:19email containing a photo of a young woman who looked like amy advertising sexual services on a caribbean
00:41:25based sex work website after reviewing the photo the fbi said it could possibly be amy but they had no way
00:41:32to verify where the image came from or who had taken it now the image is on the screen here it's not too bad
00:41:39there's nothing being shown that makes it something i can't put up here because if it was i wouldn't show it so
00:41:46look at the photo i will say i can see some resemblance i also think it looks a lot like the
00:41:52woman in the sketch from the previous witness now some of the photos i saw of amy she had short hair
00:41:58this woman has long hair but i want your opinion let me know what you think do you think this looks
00:42:02like amy bradley do you think it looks like a woman who has similar characteristics again without having
00:42:08a point of reference for the photo it's it's hard to tell for sure there can be people out there
00:42:13that look similar to our victims and yet it's not the same person but i will say considering the fact
00:42:19of of what happened to amy and where it happened and then to have these witness statements report
00:42:24certain things that kind of align with what could have potentially happened to amy now couple it with
00:42:29this with this image that's out there it's a lot of coincidences i will give you that for the people
00:42:34that believe she was trafficked you have a lot of evidence here that's starting to pile up that
00:42:39that could just be a coincidence but also could be exactly what's going on and where she is currently
00:42:45all right you guys already know by now i love fish salmon tuna cod you name it i love it i'm from

00:44:53over the last 27 years there have been other reported sightings as well but none of them have
00:45:05led to amy there have been no major updates and to this day the investigation into her disappearance
00:45:11remains open amy's family has never stopped looking for her over the years they have participated in
00:45:17countless media interviews including the new netflix documentary that i referenced a couple times
00:45:22in this episode strongly recommend you go check it out there's going to be more information there that
00:45:27i may not have covered here and i want you guys to have the full picture now i will say in that
00:45:33documentary it was revealed for the first time that amy was gay and she had come out to her family
00:45:40while she was in college but her parents admitted that they were quote not happy about it and at the
00:45:45time they told her that they were quote disappointed and since that revelation has come to light
00:45:51some people online have questioned whether amy may have taken her own life or chosen to walk away from
00:45:57her family but her family and friends have all pushed against that idea they said that amy had a lot
00:46:03going for her and she was not suicidal but i will say whenever these cases do come out it is often that
00:46:10we hear from the victims families where they'll tell us that everything was rainbows and gumdrops and
00:46:15everything was perfect and there was no reason that their family member would run away or they would do
00:46:20anything to themselves and that could be for self-preservation reasons that could be to protect
00:46:25their loved one that's currently missing or has passed away we don't know the why but this is something
00:46:31that should have been disclosed immediately if it wasn't and when you think about it if you are are gay
00:46:38and you come out to the people you trust and you love and they look you in the face and tell you that
00:46:43they're disappointed in you when that's who you are and you can't change who you are i could see how
00:46:49maybe you wouldn't want to be around those people now would it drive you to the point of killing
00:46:54yourself i don't know about that and i have seen some other reports uh on different websites and i
00:47:00haven't been able to confirm it myself but apparently she had a girlfriend and potentially a dog as well if
00:47:06i'm wrong please correct me on that so yeah she did have some things going on back home that she was
00:47:12excited about and it's very unlikely that she took her own life in fact i'm just going to come out and
00:47:17say it right now i don't think she did but is it possible that she got off the boat and wanted to get
00:47:23away from her family for a little bit potentially and i'm going to dive more into that as we get into
00:47:28the perspective but i do want to finish this episode by saying the family has another reason to
00:47:34believe amy is still out there they told netflix that around family birthdays anniversaries and
00:47:40holidays an ip address from carousel or barbados visits the family website and stays for about 45
00:47:47minutes each time now they hope it's amy or someone connected to her but they don't know for sure
00:47:54because the fbi hasn't been able to get more information about this ip address the only thing
00:47:59amy's family knows for sure is that they will never give up until they find her brad recently spoke
00:48:05with 12 on your side saying quote my parents and i share the gut feeling that she is still alive
00:48:10however unrealistic that may be to a lot of people he added if you don't take opportunities and follow
00:48:16leads you know you've given up on her and we're not going to do that we're never going to give up
00:48:23all right so let's dive into this perspective and i'll often start with what we can do going forward
00:48:31because in many instances there's things that need to be followed up on and and that's remains
00:48:36true here i would love to see a new set of agents or a new set of investigators whether that's private
00:48:43or in the government sector look over everything that's been done it's been a long time at this
00:48:49point and we're over what 27 years right around there if it hasn't been looked at from the beginning
00:48:56by someone recently that needs to be done maybe they see something that someone else missed it's
00:49:02always a possibility but i do think that this because of the attention that it got there was a
00:49:06lot of hands on deck on this one they they used a lot of resources i talked about a war plane and all
00:49:11this all these different assets that were utilized to try to find her so the investigation was pretty
00:49:17thorough so i'm going to focus more on the possibilities of what happened and and what i think is most
00:49:23likely and i mentioned in the beginning of the episode talking about possibility versus probability
00:49:30and for me it doesn't always work out in the right way but i'm a pragmatic thinker and i try to use
00:49:39logic and i will be the first to acknowledge that sometimes the most logical answer is not the right
00:49:46one and that's why we don't solve the case because it's that outlier that's like a one in a million
00:49:51chance and that's what happened and our brains are unable to compute that and those cases can go
00:49:58unsolved forever so i'm sitting here admitting that to you but based on what i do have i have to go where
00:50:03what i have right now takes me but i want to talk about everything so i want to start with the potential
00:50:10that this was foul play and if we're going to talk about foul play we have to mention alistair douglas
00:50:16he was with her he was maybe getting a little too close i don't know if that involved actual hands or
00:50:22just physically standing too close to her but clearly there were some conversations i wouldn't
00:50:29doubt if he came on to her and maybe suggested that they leave together but as i've told you guys in the
00:50:34episode amy was gay and i have to believe that she may have told him that or at minimum just let him
00:50:41know that she was not interested and we know that at one point they separated alistair said they
00:50:47separated and both ron and brad reported seeing amy in the room after leaving alistair so once she's
00:50:56in her room unless there's a way that they communicated or planned to meet up later in that
00:51:02morning there's really no way that they would have met back up there's no way that alistair would have
00:51:06known she was going to leave her room and he would have just suddenly walked into her so i mean it's
00:51:111998 i think the iphone came out in what 2007 so there are other communication devices at the time
00:51:18pagers or whatever but more than likely they if there was a digital trail that show they had a time to
00:51:24meet up or communicated with each other we would know about that so unless it's just absolute luck or
00:51:30coincidence that they ran into each other later that morning i don't think that's a reasonable
00:51:36conclusion to come to so i don't think alistair's involved although there are sketches out there
00:51:43and stuff like that that say that he could be with this unidentified woman and we're going to talk about
00:51:47those things as well i i just don't think alistair's our guy and i know you guys are sitting there saying
00:51:52well how can you rule out alistair or say he's not the guy when there are multiple witnesses who say
00:51:56they saw amy with him around the time she would have left the room i get it i know what you're saying
00:52:04but then shortly right after that a crew line manager went down to his room and he's in bed
00:52:10so it would have been a very small window where he would have done whatever he did and i'm not
00:52:15sitting here saying it's absolutely out of the question it's possible especially when you consider
00:52:21what his daughter recently divulged in the new netflix series i'm just saying as far as my list is
00:52:28concerned as far as that hierarchy this is not at the top of my list but i will say i'm going to talk
00:52:34about what is at the end of this this would be right below that but that doesn't rule out the
00:52:40possibility of foul play because it is still a potential scenario where amy wakes up and for
00:52:48whatever reason she's not feeling well decides that she wants to go for a walk maybe to get some food
00:52:53maybe to get some air somewhere else other than the balcony maybe just the angle that it has it's
00:52:57giving her motion sickness that can happen i get that sometimes uh she leaves the room and she's
00:53:03walking around and she encounters a crew member or another passenger who sees her alone maybe make
00:53:10some advances towards her and it doesn't go well and and one of two things could have happened they
00:53:14could have pushed her overboard or they could have taken her back to their room and something happened
00:53:19there but then you get into the scenario and the question of where is she now how did they get her
00:53:25off the boat how did they dispose of her body i mean i'm sure there's ways it could have been done
00:53:31but it would have been difficult for the other crew members not to find her eventually unless she was
00:53:36disposed of in a way that nobody would discover her body at a later date and so yes possible
00:53:45in my opinion not very probable and the final foul play scenario is this whole trafficking theory and
00:53:53i told you right out there are there are a lot of people who believe it's disrespectful and there's
00:53:59no evidence to support it and then there are also people in that same comment section saying you're an
00:54:04idiot if you don't think she was trafficked based on everything that's came out and some of those people
00:54:10point to the fact that the the fbi quote-unquote confirmed that it was amy in that photo that i showed you
00:54:17guys earlier and that's simply not the case they have not confirmed that that's amy in the photo
00:54:23they said it could be her and there was some other information stating that they confirmed the fbi
00:54:29confirmed that she left the boat again from my research from what we've seen there is no confirmation
00:54:37that she left the boat so if she did leave the boat it was through a different path that wouldn't
00:54:44have been seen by the crew members and if you're to believe that there were members on that boat
00:54:49whether they were passengers or crew members that were part of some type of trafficking organization
00:54:54looking for single women who they could grab and tie up and and lead off the boat then they have a way
00:55:01of doing it that it goes undetected and i could think of probably 10 or 15 ways you would do that right
00:55:06now because when you get off the boat you will see crew members unloading large boxes and bins for food
00:55:13and they're replenishing all their supplies and materials as they hit these islands so could
00:55:19there be one where they put a body inside of it yeah these things are massive so it's not like this
00:55:24crazy conspiracy theory to think that if this was something that was happening they could have gotten
00:55:30away with it but i want to talk about that a little bit more because let's for the sake of this
00:55:35conversation say that's what happened and that some of these witness sightings are true there have been
00:55:43multiple scenarios where if amy's being given this much freedom where she's interacting with these
00:55:49witnesses and saying who she is i would like to think that she at some point whether it was on the
00:55:55beach or or this department store somewhere at some point she would have came across a government
00:56:01official or a public setting where she could have just yelled and screamed and ran and said help me
00:56:07help me help me these guys are holding me against my will i know that's easier said than done but
00:56:13she's out on the beach where there's a lot of people if she was really in danger at that point
00:56:17and and after being held for so long if she wanted to get out of that situation there would have been
00:56:23opportunities she had she had this time to tell someone her full name and what was going on
00:56:27you would think at that point she would be able to get away or at least cause enough of a
00:56:32disturbance where the men that were with her would say we got to get out of here because
00:56:36if law enforcement shows up we're screwed and yet that never happened these are all individual
00:56:42reports where unfortunately they reported it but just not in time and then we can't find them and we
00:56:49can't corroborate their stories the naval officer is interesting because the naval officer he's really
00:56:57putting himself on the line here because what he's disclosing that he did even though it's after
00:57:01his career is still not something you want to acknowledge if that's what you're doing and yet
00:57:06he did it and it's it's to no benefit of his own because at that point you know he's not going to
00:57:11get a reward he's not going to get anything from it if anything he's just going to be looked at in a
00:57:15negative way so you genuinely have to look at him and say he's doing this because it's been eating
00:57:19him up inside for many years and he's felt the obligation to finally come forward and i respect him for
00:57:25doing that i would respect him more if he had came forward initially because if it was her
00:57:30he could have saved her life so by no means am i saying this guy's a hero but i do believe his
00:57:36story or at least i believe him when he says he saw amy bradley i don't know how credible this guy's
00:57:43memory and vision is but he's pretty comfortable in saying that it was amy and from from where i'm
00:57:49sitting i have to believe him so this whole trafficking scenario if it did go down although we may not be able
00:57:55to figure out all the logistics of how it went down it might be exactly what what these witnesses
00:58:01were told amy wakes up she's had a couple drinks she's looking for some some drugs and she's walking
00:58:09around the boat and she encounters someone and says hey do you know where i could find something
00:58:13and this person whether they're someone who works for royal caribbean or another passenger says
00:58:18yeah i do i have some down in my cabin we we can definitely hook you up she says okay i'll go with
00:58:24you and when she does that's the end of it at that point there's no way to get away and then all these
00:58:31witnesses accounts or at least some of them what we're hearing what we're seeing is in fact true
00:58:36and it was amy bradley as far as the ip address logging in to the website each year i don't believe
00:58:43that's her i don't know who it is but i don't believe that's her unless we're talking about
00:58:48another scenario and that scenario would be that she was unhappy with her life and she left
00:58:54voluntarily and that she decided this was the time that she was going to do it do i think that's what
00:59:00happened absolutely not she had stuff to go to back home like i said it's believed she had a girlfriend
00:59:06and a dog she was having fun with her family it's the middle of the night after drinking and yet she's
00:59:12choosing to take this time to go into a foreign country that she's never been to before
00:59:16probability versus possibility it's not probable i don't think that's what happened here people around
00:59:24her don't think that's what happened here and if she really wanted to disappear she could have done
00:59:30it in a much easier way while in the united states so from what i've learned about amy this is this is at
00:59:37the bottom of my list which leads me to the last thing on my list which to me is the most probable
00:59:44amy and brad had been drinking a little bit that night i don't know how intoxicated they were but
00:59:50they came back to the room very late brad fell asleep on the bed she fell asleep on the balcony
00:59:56i'm only speaking anecdotally yeah i could fall asleep on the balcony but would it help if i had a few
01:00:03drinks absolutely so i definitely think she was feeling good and i believe that ron woke up and
01:00:09he did see her on the balcony and she was sleeping like that she probably just passed out and what more
01:00:15than likely happened is she woke up and maybe she did come inside maybe she was cold or maybe she wanted
01:00:21to change for whatever reason to get into something more comfortable so she goes inside she leaves the
01:00:26slider open she changes and then all of a sudden she feels nauseous she had been drinking she just
01:00:33woke up and now she feels like she's going to throw up so what does she do she runs back out on the
01:00:39balcony and when she gets out on the balcony as we discussed earlier in the episode the railing's too
01:00:45high so at that point without even thinking about it she jumps up on the table leans over the railing
01:00:51and begins to throw up but as she does the table kicks out from under her legs and maybe that's when
01:00:57she goes over the edge that scenario would explain the changing of the clothes it would explain the
01:01:04sliding glass door being open it would also explain why we can't find amy and i know that's the easy
01:01:10explanation it's like oh yeah when when you can't figure it out just go with the accident route because
01:01:15that's the easiest one to to justify i get it but there's a lack of information here and based on what
01:01:21we do have we know that she went back to the room and there's a 30 minute window where she's there
01:01:26and then she's not the fact that that table's tipped over that's the one indication we have of what
01:01:33potentially happened here and i have to go with it so to me the most likely scenario is that this was an
01:01:42unfortunate accident and that she's no longer with us but the reality is i can't dispute all these
01:01:49witnesses coming forward and saying that they saw her and only they know how sure they are about
01:01:56whether or not it was her so from where i'm sitting until we have amy's body or something to say with
01:02:04100 certainty that she didn't get off that boat it's still a possibility and we have to continue
01:02:11to explore those scenarios but at this point as far as the investigation is concerned it's up to you
01:02:17guys we need someone to come forward with that information we need to reinvigorate this case yes
01:02:24it's been 27 years that's a long time but older cases have been solved so frankly me amy's family
01:02:34and the fbi we're relying on someone out there so just to recap this story 23 year old amy lynn
01:02:42was last seen by her father around 5 30 a.m on march 24th 1998 and she was sleeping on the balcony
01:02:50of their cabin aboard the rhapsody of the seas which is ran by the royal caribbean and by 6 a.m she was
01:02:57gone three witnesses later reported seeing amy with alistair douglas also known as yellow just before
01:03:036 a.m taking an elevator to the ship's disco he was later seen leaving alone there were no other
01:03:10sightings of amy on board but over the years multiple people have reported seeing her in
01:03:15carousel puerto rico barbados and even san francisco amy is still missing if you have any
01:03:23information concerning the disappearance of amy bradley please contact your local fbi office or
01:03:29the nearest american embassy or consulate my final words as always go out to amy's friends and family
01:03:34i know this case has been covered by a lot of people you guys have been out there in the public
01:03:39netflix is covering it investigation discovery has covered it the fbi is looking into it do you need
01:03:45my help no are you asking for my help absolutely not but i'm here whatever resources i have are now
01:03:52at your disposal if nothing else than just my platform to share your story that's what i'm
01:03:58going to do and now everybody who watches and listens to me if they weren't already aware of amy's
01:04:03story now they are and i really do hope you guys get the answers you're searching for i talk about
01:04:08it all the time i think at this point you guys are aware that there's a strong possibility amy's
01:04:14no longer with us but the unknown that's the worst part no one deserves that and that's the reason that
01:04:22we have to continue to push forward not only for amy but for you guys and everyone else who loved amy
01:04:29and i really hope that one day i'm sitting right behind this desk and i get to share with everybody out
01:04:34there watching or listening right now that we finally have those answers we know what happened
01:04:39to amy and if someone's responsible for it they're being held responsible as well until that day comes
01:04:45everyone stay safe out there and i'll see you next week
01:04:49you
