A woman had a miraculous escape after her car was swallowed by a sudden sinkhole that opened up on a busy Singapore road in broad daylight. The shocking incident occurred on July 26 around 5 PM near the junction of Tanjong Katong Road and Mountbatten Road, close to the One Amber condominium.
The dramatic visuals, now viral on social media, show the car almost completely submerged in a gaping, water-filled hole, with only its front barely visible. Onlookers can be heard gasping as water gushes into the pit, making the scene even more terrifying.
Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB) confirmed the incident and said that two lanes of the road were affected. Thankfully, the woman trapped inside was rescued safely before the situation worsened.
The cause of the sinkhole is under investigation, and PUB officials have initiated repair and inspection work in the area.
Citizens praised the quick emergency response and called for stronger infrastructure checks, especially given Singapore’s reputation for efficient urban planning.
