00:00Welcome back to Tales of Unusual, stories for those who believe that death is not the end, and that every ending might just be a cruel beginning.
00:12Tonight's story is about reincarnation, but not the comforting kind you hope for.
00:18This is about a cycle that changes you each time, until what comes back isn't you at all.
00:25So settle in, and listen carefully. This is evolved reincarnation.
00:31Elliot was just another man, with an ordinary fear of dying.
00:36He worked a desk job, watered his plants, read books about past lives, to calm himself, when the panic crept in at night.
00:47He wanted to believe in karma, that we get another chance, that we get better.
00:52His grandmother once told him he'd been many things, a soldier, a poet, a thief.
00:59Each time, she said, his soul grew stronger, wiser.
01:04But Elliot wondered, what if reincarnation didn't make us better?
01:09What if it made us something else?
01:12One winter morning, Elliot never woke up.
01:15An undiagnosed aneurysm, they said.
01:19Quiet, quick.
01:20But Elliot's story, didn't end, in that cold apartment.
01:24His eyes opened again, in another life.
01:27A newborn, crying, under bright hospital lights.
01:31He knew his name wasn't Elliot anymore.
01:34But inside, something still remembered.
01:37As he grew, the memories came back, in flashes.
01:41Street corners, he'd never seen.
01:44Songs he shouldn't know, the words to.
01:47By ten, he drew diagrams, no child could understand.
01:52Spirals, symbols, pieces of old languages.
01:56At night, he whispered to himself, next time, will be different.
02:01He died again, at twenty-four.
02:03An accident, this time, a car, sliding on black ice.
02:08Again, he woke in a new body, crying out with lungs that weren't his, and the cycle went on.
02:15Each life, the memories piled up faster.
02:19He remembered everything, every name, every death, every mistake.
02:24But something else grew too.
02:27With each new form, his mind changed, sharper, but less, human.
02:32In his fifth life, he could hear people's thoughts in broken pieces.
02:38In his seventh, he could bend small objects with his mind when he dreamed.
02:44His soul wasn't just reborn, it was mutating.
02:48Elliot, or whatever he was now, stopped, fearing death.
02:53He started to wonder, where does this go?
02:56He found others like him, reincarnated minds behind calm faces.
03:01They recognized each other by the look in their eyes, the questions they didn't dare ask aloud.
03:09They whispered of the thread, the invisible chain that linked them.
03:13Some believed they were evolving for a purpose, that in the final life, they'd become something more.
03:20Others believed it was a curse, that they were drifting further from being human each time.
03:27Elliot didn't know which to hope for.
03:29In his tenth life, Elliot, now called Mara, found he could see glimpses of the next life, before dying.
03:38He saw the people he would become, the faces they would wear.
03:42He could steer them, shape them, before birth.
03:45He could plant memories, like seeds.
03:48He gathered the others, old souls wearing young bodies, and they planned.
03:54What if we could remember it all?
03:55What if we never forgot anything, again?
03:59They experimented.
04:01Secret rituals, coded mantras, patterns burned into their brains.
04:07When Mara died again, he didn't cry, as a newborn.
04:11He opened his eyes, and spoke a word, he shouldn't have known yet.
04:16Now, they call themselves, the continuum.
04:19They no longer live normal lives, no schools, no jobs, no families that last.
04:27They drift through bodies, like changing clothes, gathering knowledge, growing more alien each time.
04:35Some say they can live for decades, without aging.
04:39Some say they can step outside their bodies, altogether.
04:43They don't fear death anymore, they fear only one thing.
04:48What comes after the cycle ends?
04:51Because, when your soul has evolved so far, that it no longer needs a body.
04:58Where does it go, and what does it want?
05:00If you ever dream of other lives, if you ever wake with names that aren't yours on your tongue,
05:08maybe you repart of the continuum to, maybe the next time you blink, you'll remember everything you were,
05:15and everything you're becoming.
05:18So sleep well tonight.
05:19And if this is your last life, make it count, before you evolve into something that can't sleep,
05:27can't die, and can't ever stop remembering.
05:31Thank you for watching Tales of Unusual.
05:35Like, comment, and subscribe, for more stories that live again, every time you press play.
05:42Until next time, dream wisely.
