00:00In this video we are going to be exploring 10 traditional Indonesian musical instruments.
00:05The first instrument is called banang. It is a collection of small gongs that are placed on a
00:10wooden frame and this is how it sounds. The second musical instrument we're going to be taking a
00:27look at is the anklang. It consists of bamboo tubes that are attached to a bamboo frame,
00:32each one tuned to a specific octave and this is how it sounds.
00:49Next up we have the Korinding Bamboo Mouth Harp. These are famously known as the Jaw Harp of Indonesia.
00:55These are typically made in Java from a single piece of bamboo and this is how it's played.
01:13The fourth instrument we are introducing is the Kekopi Sunda Zither. It's similar to the Chinese
01:19Guzeng or the Japanese Koto and this is how it sounds.
01:35Now we will discover the Saron Metallophone which is typically used in a gamelan,
01:40a type of Indonesian ensemble.
01:53Next up is the Kalang, a bamboo xylophone that originated in Badai culture and is typically used
01:59in Balinese performances. The instrument is made up of multiple bamboo tubes which when striked
02:05produces a woody tone. Here is a sound demonstration.
02:20The Suling Dangda or Suling Dangda is a traditional Indonesian flute that is loved by the Sandanese
02:26people. It is popular throughout Asia and can be found in Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.

02:42The Kendang Sunda is one of the first instruments to be used in a gamelan.
02:52These drums are typically made from wood and have a buffalo hide head. This is how it's played.
02:58Next up is another traditional Indonesian flute called the Suling Sunda. It would typically play
03:10the same melody as the Kekopi Sunda in a gamelan and it has the addition of a bamboo ring.
03:24Finally, we have the Rehab Erhu, which is similar to the Chinese Erhu. It is a stringed instrument
03:36that has some characteristics of the violin and this is how it sounds.
